One thing non-stutterers often do not understand is that stuttering can HURT. Jaw cramps, neck pulls, headaches, and breathless exhaustion are common side-effects of talking too much with a stutter. Back when my stutter was much worse, I'd have maybe an hour or two of strangulated speech before I'd have to stop for a while. Then people called me aloof or stuck-up because I wouldn't (or, more likely, couldn't) talk to everybody. Talk and get laughed at, or don't talk and get dissed: it's an endless no-win situation.
Hi Alexandra Your video is on a very important topic which I’ve always been interested in. I am totally with you to say that it is a misperception that stuttering is like a jammed gear which will get unstuck if worked out. Stuttering is like something stuck in that gear that needs to be removed. No matter how hard or how long you keep trying to move that gear despite that obstacle, it’s gonna do more harm than good. Trying to remove that obstacle is the way to go not the pushing through!
a question when you got blocked , can you not use an other word of do the word again ? I had these moments where I had to chose other words, the nice thing is when I was stuttering , the people in the meeting room were always saying the words I was intending to say, incredible , like seeing your mind haha
I had situations when I was speaking spanish in a meeting and received a call from Belgium and could speak on the phone without any problem in dutch , incredible in Spanish with problems and in dutch fluently
do you have contact with other girls or boys who are stuttering , will be very helpful to understand each other and looking for tricks to avoid stuttering
should avoid for the moment speaking in public , speaking to people you don't know , etc etc . maybe singing will avoid stuttering since breathing rhythm is better
