Do The Musicy Thing I had no idea his work was in Homestuck until I got into Undertale. His songs always sound sentimental to me and that's why I love them. Great job by the way, you're one of the best pianists I've seen cover these songs.
Well ofc it is, Its doing complex motions with both hands intently instead of just vaguely moving your arms. patting het and rubbing belly at the same time is EASY compared to piano. You need years of practice to get this good :P
I worry that you're messing with forces that shouldn't be trifled with when you wrestle with these tracks that clearly weren't meant to be played by humans. Just... be careful, is all. Someone might lose an arm, or something.
sheavsey That's part of the fun of these - taking pieces that weren't intended to fit on solo piano (or duo, with Sburban Jungle) and figuring out how to make them playable. And if someone loses an arm, they'll just have to...retrieve arm.
That's really impressive for a solo! Even if there were a couple of hiccups, the feat itself is amazing as it is. I also really liked the intro of the Vriskagram version. Also I have to say I haven't seen the middle pedal be used as much as this video
Joshua Paas Those "hiccups" are most probably unavoidable. That is, unless you can make your hand go limp, flail it straight across the piano, and still press the right keys.
Joshua Paas Thanks! Yes, there were a couple of hiccups; everything in it *can* be played accurately, but getting everything to go right on a given take is out of my level (honestly, all of my arrangements here have little hiccups, but they're more exposed in Moonsetter because it's less enveloped in the pedal.
The fact that you can do the low to high part with the left hand and make the whole song sound cohesive is crazy and so impressive Just found your channel... I might be obsessed
You're an incredible pianist!! I would love to see you play Candles and Clockwork. I've been trying to figure it out on the piano myself, but I can never seem to get it right...
Spoony Chan Thanks! In Candles and Clockwork it would be a tricky to fit the main melody in between the two arpeggiating lines, and to keep the whole thing from becoming enveloped in pedal (because the original maintains a light texture). But...honestly, that's a lot like the challenges in Moonsetter, so I could probably figure out a way to make it work. I've added it to the list of possible future arrangements.
If you could find a clarinetist to play it with, I think it would be really nice for clarinet and piano (and much easier for both to play than a solo piano version would be).
An arrangement with clarinet probably may not exist yet. I was just saying that an arrangement for that would work well if you made one. If you're having trouble working out the piece...from what I remember it's mostly F#, D, and A chords (frequently sevenths and ninths). If you're playing it with a Bb clarinet (rather than an A clarinet), you might want to shift it down a half step (from F# minor to F minor) for ease.
hey dude yeah Do the Musicy Thing yeah you can you chill with the taLENT LIKE THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ON RUclips AND THIS LEGIT MADE MY FAITH IN HUMANITY STILL EXSIST KNOWING THAT THERE'S STILL TALENT IN THIS WORLD- seriously though this is absolutely amazing and I'm so happy there's someone like you that has a channel for homestuck songs but arranged on piano and this totally made my daY- alright thanks :>
bro well represented? that's an understatement. They took it and made it amazing and smooth as hell. NOT to say that this is bad. I just think moonsweater was smooth af. I don't normally like jazz but that song? damn
Makin Smith Heh. It's technically Kawai (with one "i"). But when I first started seeing the word "kawaii" on the internet, I was a bit confused, thinking it looked like a misspelling of a piano maker.
Ahahah... "Do The Musicy Thing" *cries in corner I've only been past this point and Homestuck has already ended... Why didn't you wait for me Homestuck? Why?
you did it!! you are so amazing ohmygosh ^u^ i remember you mentioning wanting to do this in a comment a little while back! and you diiiiiiiid it ::::)
I remember when I first stumbled across this video back in high school(2019 ish I think)... and completely forgot about this music piece! I had tried my best for years to find it again... until a few minutes ago. I, surprisingly, found this piece again on an Instagram reel! Once I started listening to your video, I immediately unlocked a hidden memory. It was specifically your performance, this yt video, that I watched back then!!! I'm so glad I found it after so long! I commented on this back then but now is better than never: amazing job!
This is truly amazing! I’m fairly late on the whole Homestuck thing but it’s still great. I’ve been learning this for hours and oh god the base jumping parts are hard. You gotta hit the right notes, fast, while also keeping it quiet since it isn’t the main part. However you played it so well! Great performance.
this is incredible, especially the use of those pedals! you are so amazingly talented in both arranging and performing this and i will always come back to listen to this for years
I’m currently trying to teach myself how to play piano but before I can even start learning music I have to be able to learn how to use my hands at different times.
been into homestuck ages ago, just bought my first ever accordion and what do you know, this piece actually fits the accordion perfectly! the bouncy bass sections and all, I may be 5 years late but you made this transcription perfectly!
Whoa, playing a duet on your own, that's incredible! And it sounds just like the original, too! With many piano covers of Moonsetter I miss the violin, but your version felt so... complete! Amazing
Veertje-Feather Honestly, the violin's part goes fairly naturally into the right hand - the main difficulty is catching the cello part in the left hand while still keeping the original piano left hand going. But completeness was the idea with this, so I'm glad it came across. Thanks!
Yes! You made it! You are an amazing pianist! I can't wait to see what you do next! I've actually learned part of this on the violin. It's definitely a harder piece but I've been enjoying it. That upd8 was something.
Thanks a lot for the music sheet! Also, fantastic and fabulous playing!! It's way better seeing your hand placings so I can get an idea on how to play it. Thanks a lot again!
In the beginning minute, with the easier melody, your hands are often out of sync, with your right hand being way faster than your left hand. Best way to fix this is practicing really slowly, even praciticing hands separately if necessary. When practicing very slowly pedal also isn't necessary.
this piece is so hard i brought it to my piano teacher and she agreed LOL i can barely play up to 1:07 because the timing of the sostenuto is so hard ;( and all the jumps lmfao but i believe i can finish this piece before the of march maybe. Great arrangement by the way i love double melody around 1:50 and i love the whole piece its super fun to play lmfao just a bit hard i cant wait to enjoy the piece to its fullest when im able to play the whole thing
Now that I look in the comments I see the hiccups but honestly if your just chillin it just sounds like a little hold with the way he pulls them. A little off but amazing with the piece he was able to play in the end.
I have tiny hands and I've gotten along just fine with most instruments... Except the guitar. I have a hard time with my left hand since I have a really large guitar. Honestly, hand size doesn't matter for any instrument. I play the Viola for my school and theres people with itty bitty fingers like me or really huge hands, but our orchestra is pretty damn good. And it also depends on the size of the instrument... I'm a small person and my grandmother gave me her guitar which is almost as big as me, lol.
As long as you can reach an octave, you're fine to play piano. Small hands will mean there are some chords you have to roll or break, but there are plenty of pianists far better than me with hands that only reach around an octave. Although if your hands are smaller than an octave, piano will be rather intractably difficult.
JeffMcJeff At the beginning, the original's also piano solo, so there I was just playing exactly what was there. Then the other parts come in and it becomes a lot more difficult...
Agustina Gaudio That was a really good upd8 - I was so happy Moonsetter was finally used in comic. I worried that it wouldn't be, since it didn't have epic/dramatic sound that's normally used for animations, but it was perfect for Vriskagram. Thanks for listening!
I love this, you are so talented! I've been searching for a solo version since I first heard the song so thank you for recording this I'm definitely going to try it out :)
And finally, I can say that I learned this piece. I didn't think it was possible, but damn. So much fun to play! Such a good song too... Thanks... (can't really get to 130 bpm yet, might not even be possible, my personal best is 110 bpm.)
It's excellent. I think I've finally figured out a way to arrange it (it'll take four hands, although in a rather different arrangement from SBurban Jungle), but it's a large piece, and I want to keep up my pattern of posting videos about every two months, so an arrangement of it is probably a year away.
+XyroGaming I'm hoping to play that game soon. I've heard a lot about it, and seen the beginning of a few Let's Plays (but stopped before I could see any major spoilers).
I noticed all your comments about the tricky pedalling, both on this video, and on the previous one (in reference to this), and I only just now realized how much sostenuto you're using! Yikes! That can't be easy to time without catching the right hand in there.
LeonardMeltsner It's hard. Even after much practicing, I lost a lot of takes recording because a bass note didn't catch or a melody note did when it wasn't supposed to. Between that and some of the rapid jumps in the left hand, this is one of the hardest arrangements I've done.
this song has been my mortal enemy for the last two years, the most frustratingly difficult is the jumping back and forth in the left hand and adding another part for the right hand at about 2:00 on top of the preexisting melody that was repeating.
TheThunderLegion UltimoTofu I have sheet music if you want to learn this version (or even alchemize together your version and mine and hear what comes out).
I play by ear, I wish I could read sheet music :/ I may be taking a piano class in the second trimester of my freshmen year though, so it's something to keep in mind :p (However my only way to play piano is a keyboard half the size of a real one so I can't play anything TOO major :p. I.E, I had to improvise lefty for when I learned sunslammer.
I don't really use Skype much. Is your issue figuring out the notes/chords in that part? I can tell you what I have if you tell me what part of the piece. If it's a technical issue...I'd say just find what works best for your hands and keyboard.
This guy has the mental capacity for 4 simultaneous melodies, yet is limited by his 2 mortal hands. Astounding.
Of course Toby Fox made this masterpiece.
+plasticsky I think this is quite possibly his best piece (although he also has several good pieces in Undertale).
Do The Musicy Thing I had no idea his work was in Homestuck until I got into Undertale. His songs always sound sentimental to me and that's why I love them. Great job by the way, you're one of the best pianists I've seen cover these songs.
Thank you!
Only the best.
Hey guy go look at SUNNY for underswap(snowy but like moonsetter)
when you have 2 perfectly able hands but u only got one brain ;(
This doesn't require any Kvothe-style mind-splitting; it's not by Thomas Adès. It does require foot precision, though.
+Do The Musicy Thing and patience, and skill, and speed. You are amazing. I hope to one day be as half as talented as you.
Thanks!
Well ofc it is, Its doing complex motions with both hands intently instead of just vaguely moving your arms. patting het and rubbing belly at the same time is EASY compared to piano. You need years of practice to get this good :P
What do you mean by "Kvothe-style mind-splitting"?
I worry that you're messing with forces that shouldn't be trifled with when you wrestle with these tracks that clearly weren't meant to be played by humans.

BasemanW Yeah I know, thats why im so impressed how much he could pull off like this
Joshua Paas yeah man! those hiccups were because he was playing like 4 freaking parts at once.
The only hiccup this guy made was being born with less than 3 hands.
The fact that you can do the low to high part with the left hand and make the whole song sound cohesive is crazy and so impressive
Just found your channel... I might be obsessed
Thanks! This is the other hardest one (you managed to comment on the two most difficult).
You're welcome! And yeah, I can definitely see that being a problem, and would explain why I can't find any covers of it anywhere...
If you could find a clarinetist to play it with, I think it would be really nice for clarinet and piano (and much easier for both to play than a solo piano version would be).
An arrangement with clarinet probably may not exist yet. I was just saying that an arrangement for that would work well if you made one. Do The Musicy Thing
Perhaps you could do Chronicals?
It sounds very similar to candles and clockwork, and only piano is used.
hey dude
yeah Do the Musicy Thing
yeah you
can you chill with the taLENT

alright thanks :>
Thanks! Although my talent for piano really isn't anything that notable.
This is one of my favorite songs from Homestuck and it just makes me happy whenever I listen to it. I gotta make my brother play it for me.
Thanks! And good luck to your brother!
Coming back to this after Moonsweater was released makes me really warm inside. -My demon possessing me must be happy.-
I'm glad Moonsetter was well-represented on Vol. 10.
bro well represented? that's an understatement. They took it and made it amazing and smooth as hell. NOT to say that this is bad. I just think moonsweater was smooth af. I don't normally like jazz but that song? damn

"Do The Musicy Thing"

I've only been past this point and Homestuck has already ended...

Why?

Mikaela Forte Thanks BDD
you did it!! you are so amazing ohmygosh ^u^
i remember you mentioning wanting to do this in a comment a little while back! and you diiiiiiiid it ::::)
Your profile picture is that one obscure thing Rose did once which is imo the funniest shes been despite no one really remembering it.
Pretty sure if I had one-fifth of your talent I could rule the world. Why you don't is a mystery to me.
Julie Hirstius Well, my talents are all in music-related things, not world domination.
Do The Musicy Thing I'm sure there's a funny, sarcastic response to that that I can't think of.
I'm 9 years too late to say this was absolutely amazing!!!
❤❤❤❤
Fantastic cover. Just like Tony to write a song that requires three hands to play.
Most of my arrangements kind of need three hands, but I do what I can with two (except Sburban Jungle, which needed about 5, but could work with 4)
Do you mean Toby? Or some unknown composer named Tony that secretly wrote all Homestuck's music?
fletcher Fraher Oh yes, that was a typo! His name is Toby "Radiation" Fox, not Tony "The" Tiger. Easy mistake to make. 8^y
Tony. My favourite composer. Under appreciated in the world of music.
You have a nice arm tbh
+Zoosmell Egbert I'll make sure I continue to retrieve it.
I remember when I first stumbled across this video back in high school(2019 ish I think)... and completely forgot about this music piece! DTMT: haha sostenuto pedal go stepppp
This is truly amazing! I’m fairly late on the whole Homestuck thing but it’s still great.

I would actually like working with toby fox again. He really, truly is gifted at what he does.
I got nothing bad to say about him at all.
As someone who can’t play piano, I’m super impressed of what you managed! I wish I could even play remotely as well.

That was amazing! I am happy knowing this channel exists. 😊
Thank you!
"K kawai" in spanish sound like "que kawaii" something like saying "what a kawaii (cute) piano!"
+Igneous Crystal Heh.
...john...
...well, my first name is Sean, which is kind of close...
+Do The Musicy Thing ●♢●
I love how you manage to combine the 3 parts together!
You, my friend, have an amazing talent.
Banana Brony Thanks! That was the idea (and what made arranging Moonsetter so difficult).
Yes! You made it! You are an amazing pianist! I can't wait to see what you do next! I've actually learned part of this on the violin. It's definitely a harder piece but I've been enjoying it. That upd8 was something.
Mena Kim Thanks! Yeah, this wouldn't be easy on violin; the line wouldn't be that hard, but the key is very awkward for any bowed string instrument.
Thanks a lot for the music sheet! Also, fantastic and fabulous playing!! It's way better seeing your hand placings so I can get an idea on how to play it. Thanks a lot again!
this is absolutely insane
This is actually incredible
WHY DO SO MANY OF THESE SONGS REMIND ME OF MY OCS
Like literally this is the music version of chip’s restaurant
Dear gods, you're incredibly skilled. This is absolutely amazing!
commenterofneopia Thanks! Radiation composed an excellent piece.
I've been trying to learn to play this song for years and I've finally got it but, I'll still never be able to play it like this-
Forget John Cusack, your amazingness is the real universal constant here!
LeonardMeltsner Ah, you must have gone to Alternia and heard Troll Do the Musicy Thing playing all the ivories in the fire.
Aaaaaaaall of them ::::)
You did really good, it'll be a challenge for anyone to play this Solo without a hiccup or 4. Mad props!
it's been long years.. But i still love it! ❤
Your left hand accompaniment is amazing !
i listen to this regularly on loops thank you for making this beautifull arangement
Thank you! Toby composed an excellent piece.
피아노 진짜 멋지다... 딱딱하게 들리지 않고도 음 하나 흘기지 않는...
Holy crap, this was just a feat of skill. You are amazing!
I've been trying to learn this, but I have trouble playing both hands together.
same
Me too! I learned both parts, but just can't play them together!
How dare those 6 people unlike this beautiful composition
It's the VRISKAGRAM VERSION! Instantly better.
I did like that addition to the beginning (thus why it's in the arrangement).
This is incredibly impressive.
In the beginning minute, with the easier melody, your hands are often out of sync, with your right hand being way faster than your left hand. Best way to fix this is practicing really slowly, even praciticing hands separately if necessary. When practicing very slowly pedal also isn't necessary.
Very nicely played though : ) very cool.
this piece is so hard i brought it to my piano teacher and she agreed LOL i can barely play up to 1:07 because the timing of the sostenuto is so hard ;( and all the jumps lmfao but i believe i can finish this piece before the of march maybe. Great arrangement by the way i love double melody around 1:50 and i love the whole piece its super fun to play lmfao just a bit hard i cant wait to enjoy the piece to its fullest when im able to play the whole thing
were you ever able to finish it?
Wow! It almost sounds like the real song!
HE IS ALREADY HERE.
that is beautiful.
+gabriel rock`n Thanks!
Beautiful song
Holy cow, that's amazing!
This. Is. AMAZING!!! I'm jelly now because I've been trying to learn this but you /obviously/ did it better.. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I'll keep doing arrangements.
Amazing!!! You are incredible, honestly.
***** Thanks! I appreciate it.
You, my friend, have earned a new subscriber. Love this!
Wow you are absolutely amazing at piano! I've spent 6 years on guitar and now I'm going to start piano lessons tomorrow! Aah wish me luck!
Good luck with piano!
Do The Musicy Thing thankyou ^^
pretty great
I have no idea what homestuck is, but I like this very much
I love this song, and you play is so beautifully like all the other songs.
+FandomTrash 3000 Thank you! This is one of my favorite pieces in Homestuck.
+Do The Musicy Thing you're welcome!! it is one of mine as well! I also love gold pilot
The "hiccups" gives it personality
Awesome.
That left hand seems scary. This is amazing.
+Hans U The left foot is similarly scary. This is either the hardest or second hardest of my arrangements (Carne Vale is also particularly difficult).
Now that I look in the comments I see the hiccups but honestly if your just chillin it just sounds like a little hold with the way he pulls them. A little off but amazing with the piece he was able to play in the end.
You handled the left hands part really well. :)
Thanks! It's hard.
The off rhythm happens when one hand can go way faster but the other hand is going as fast as it can go
Tempo is all over the place but beautiful regardless
When you have tiny hands .-.
Cattliant I have big ass hands and I've always wanted to learn the piano, but we sold it

I love this, you are so talented! I've been searching for a solo version since I first heard the song so thank you for recording this I'm definitely going to try it out :)
Wow you must have praticed a lot! This is amazing, you should post more videos. You motivated me, thank you so much!!
This is amazing!
Kyiv Low Thanks!
And finally, I can say that I learned this piece. I didn't think it was possible, but damn. So much fun to play! Such a good song too... Thanks... (can't really get to 130 bpm yet, might not even be possible, my personal best is 110 bpm.)
This is so perfect *3*
You really are inspiring and I hope I can play like you someday!
Amazing omg
very nice
this is just beautiful :)
Zach Pijuan Thanks! Credit goes to Radiation for composing the original piece.
if i remember correctly, this is your favorite homestuck track, right? well, good for you!!! its absolutely beautiful!
Charmi the Eevee This is one of my favorites. The Overture from Symphony Impossible to Play is my single favorite.

+XyroGaming I'm hoping to play that game soon. I've heard a lot about it, and seen the beginning of a few Let's Plays (but stopped before I could see any major spoilers).

Amazing ♥️
Dat thumb-to-pinky reach doh.
wow that was really great! i really like this song and it looked kinda difficult but i think you did a good job!
Yeah, it's difficult to do with just solo piano; it's one of my most difficult arrangements. Thanks!
Beautiful ^~^

I literally screamed when I heard this 😋🤗🤗🤗
Well, I wish I could even get close to how good you are at this song. I do play piano but just as a Hobby, but I still wish I could play this well.

It's hard to explain but yeah it's a left handed part that I can't get no matter how much I practice/improvise
my god that looks hard
+Ealonex It is. This is either the hardest or second hardest (after Carne Vale) of my arrangements.
