The Deluxe had a two stage clutch that allowed the PTO to remain running when stopping the tractor by pushing it only part way down. It also had a seat with a padded cushion, tachometer and temperature gauge. The Special had an unpadded metal seat, single stage clutch the stopped the PTO whenever the clutch was pushed down to stop the tractor. It didn’t come with a tachometer or temperature gauge. It also did not have diff-lock or power steering. The Deluxe may or may not have diff-lock and power steering.
Here in Ireland the massey ferguson 35x has the dual clutch and differtial lock . There is also a standard 35 with a single stage clutch and another massey ferguson 35 with a dual clutch .These were built in Coventry UK .
Enjoyed the video. I bought a Massey Ferguson TO35 two weeks ago and I'm enjoying piddling with it. It's a little earlier model than yours I think. You've got a nice looking tractor and like me I'm not wanting a show tractor but a working tractor that looks good at the same time.
Good lookin tractor. I have my dads 55 ferguson to35. He finish graded a lot of new construction homes with it in th e 60s,70s&80s .....still fires right up !
I have a 1959 TO-35 Deluxe with the same gas engine which means the two stage clutch . I put a front loader from a 65 series on it . I had to build front mounts for it because the 65 is a few inches longer than the 35 and it mounts to the front different . It has power steering which is needed with a loaded front bucket . It's held up good for 25 years and 15 of those years it was used in my construction i retired from . Still use it on a small piece of ground out here in the country pushing snow and cutting weeds .
Your brakes are Not wet brakes ! The MF-35 always used drum brakes, 'Wet brakes are like a, cluch drive plate, to look at which runs in oil inside the back axle, they were fitted to the MF-65 range and most of the latter modles. P/S, do you know that this engine was used in the old, flying Standard car from the UK? Also, you could run it on H20, by using a fuel-cell next to the carburettor? To save money, use vegetable oil in the air filter boul, as engine oil has got expecive.
I would strongly recommend a overdrive clutch for the PTO if you are gonna be mowing with the tractor, it will solve the issue of the momentum of the brush hog pushing the tractor when trying to stop or turn.
I have a 1957 TO 35, it has the deluxe seat, lights, power spread rear wheel, two way pto clutch, I understand the TO 35 Special did not have the light kit, two way pto clutch and a metal pan type seat, Question, did I see you start the tractor with the small H/L gear shift in the high position as you started the tractor, If so the start switch is broken My TO35 will only start if the small H/L gear shifter is in the S (start) position, Stay safe,
You did. I grew up on this tractor and have always started it that way. I will check that out. Didn’t know there is a s position. Guess this is so you don’t run your self over if starting it while standing on the ground. good job. dont see many people take the time to refurbish older tractors anymore. instead of the hydrulic kift , what about a cable like or air bag lift> with the cable lift i know it would look funny but at less it would be a backup to hydrulic unit,
Along with everything the guy said in comments I believe the generator was also what made it that because I believe before that they didn’t have one or had something Different I know it sounds weird but I just got my grandpas tractor same One as this and a friend of His told me that
@@Mr_Tims I have two 1963 Deluxe MF35's with power steering. Great little tractor for utility work around the farm. Simple enough for my children to operate. Great brush hog and finish mower tractor. Great for scraping and leveling out our gravel drive. Just the right size to trailer the tractor to other property's that we manage. You find a lot of uses for your "Fergie".
IF you dont mind me asking how much did the guy who did all the repair work charge you for all that. I have a massey 65 that needs some TLC and i dont know a whole lot about doing this stuff to the tractor and was just curious what it would cost to do this.

My mf35 deluxe came with factory pwr steering, full gauges, multipower transmission and 2 stage clutch.
My dad had a 1963 and a 1965 both had power steering. Power wheels on rear. Maybe the gauges on dash.

So it had the paint job done a few years ago by my dad. Then it sat for a few years. So I don’t know. Sorry.
Now that I am using it a lot it is getting scratched up. Doesn’t look that good anymore. But oh well that’s what a tractor is for.
