The fact that the original composer saw this and had his jaw dropped is just expanding the legend of Voice Play and Geoff. Eli hits an A5 too in this one, it's definitely a rare piece of music - one of those that will be talked about and analyzed by vocalists / teachers and others alike.
Just for those that happened to not understand the intro and don't wanna read through all of the comments, the bit at the beginning was the original opening to red vs blue, an ancient web series by rooster teeth. It... was... the absolute best opening for this reaction!
Martin O'Donnell himself commented on the guys' video that he loved it, so I guess if the original composer wasn't bothered by the dubstep section... 🤷🏻♀️
Oh no way!! That’s so cool, I’ll have to find that. And I wasn’t *bothered* by it, per se, it just felt a little tonally dissonant from what I had been experiencing before it. But I still loved it :)

Loved your reaction! Geoff hitting the B0 and Ceaser doing overtones was AMAZING! I don't play Halo, but I loved this and their tribute to their fallen brother. Love your reaction as always! It was fun seeing you lost for words haha!
I love how they kept to the original at the end but the middle dubstep bit reminds me of Reach and ODST's combat fills paying homage to the whole series not just the Original three games
I love this video very much and I’m never been a gamer so I don’t know the music from the game. I can say that Scott was perfect to record this video! He’s so talented! There was a lot going on in the video that it takes a couple or a few views to catch it all. Mortius, I really enjoyed seeing how much you loved this and how excited you got when you were watching! I share your enthusiasm for the talent of these five men who astound us all! I really do hope you watch the end of the video because there’s a story behind why they decided to do it. I remember Scott being in Voice Play’s cover collaboration of “Just Sing”.
Honestly... I'm just enjoying the living daylights out of how blown away by it you are. It's one of the reasons that I enjoy watching your reactions - your joy in the music. The dedication at the end choked my wife and me up so hard when we watched it in the car with our girls. It was just... brutal for us to hear that story.
This was the piece where I fully started to understand the brilliance of every single one of these guys...especially Cesar, who until I heard this I thought of as just a sweet-voiced kid. But when he pulled out the Shaka Zulu thing and blew me away with the power he actually has, wow, I was HOOKED on him too. Each of them exemplifies vocal perfection in this. The composition is PHENOMENAL! These guys are at the top the most creative and musically brilliant people in a cappella and vocal music in general!!!
I just got a set of headphones - not great but much better than the ear buds. I know you are familiar with Elizabeth of The Charismatic Voice. She did a reaction/analysis of this and her guest is Marty O'Donnell the composer of Halo. They covered a lot of territory and I thought you might be interested!
music can take you to incredible places! i remember playing a concert on the norfolk broads (uk) just as the sun was setting, and the MD asked for "the day thou gave'st, lord is ended" hymn tune. every time i hear that i am instantly transported back there. visually, emotionally, and almost physically. music is such a powerful thing, and those that create it in this way deserve huge respect.

Love it and I love your reaction, the joy and energy coming from you is palpable. :)
I’ve listened to 4/5 reactions of that track by now and I’ve enjoyed yours the most. I was never a Halo player but your enthusiasm and love for it was just so genuine that it made your reaction video absolutely fantastic. Thanks for a lovely moment.
Your reaction almost made me wish I had been into video games “back I the day”. I loved this version, and thank you for some of the point outs that I would have missed.

I absolutely understand about music transporting you to a different time and place. I barely listened to the beginning of their If I Were a Rich Man before I was transported to a theater in Atlanta, listening to Leonard Nimoy sing that song as Tevye. I could tell that Halo meant a lot to you and loved your reaction. (I wish you would also share your reaction to the outro.)
I admit I hadn't had my morning cup of coffee so everything was blurry. I first read you were transported to the Star Trek Enterprise! (omg how embarrassing).
You got to see Leonard Nimoy as Tevye? So jealous! Did you know he fluffed his first audition and after actually learning what Fiddler on the Roof was about, he earned a second audition and landed the role after he told the casting director how it was just like his family's story?
@@maskedmallard537 I hadn’t heard that. Before the show I couldn’t see how a skinny Tevye would work. And I was so used to seeing Nimoy as Spock, I was afraid that was all I could see. But from the second he took the stage, he WAS Tevya
Yeah, I get ya on songs almost literally taking you back. When I hear Journey’s Open Arms it takes me back to 18 years of age and an ice rink I used to skate at. I can literally smell the ice. It had a unique smell. 😊
I've never played Halo, but knew the music well enough that a lot of this was familiar. It's a good cover. 10:45 Mortius starts losing his mind. I'm tempted to say it didn't stop til the end... it definitely picked back up again at 12:31. He also nearly choked to death on what is apparently the awesomeness of the editing at 13:40. I appreciate the honesty in the reaction. I saw this and immediately I too went to my "I'm 16, sitting on the couch with my friends, not a care in the world, playing HALO" place. It was glorious. I weighed half what I do now, and I didn't have any bills to pay. Best time.

I think this really brought us all back to younger years watching red vs. blue and it's insane how much of an impact a game can have in the social fabric of a generation. The only thing I was disappointed by though was you seemed to miss Caesars overtone singing at 1:10 (time marker is refering to original VoicePlay video), it's layered just before that amazing high note from Ely but only one reactor that I've seen so far has commented on it. Don't get me wrong, I fangirl over Geoff every time (that B0 was INSANE) and Ely has been doing some amazing things on the high end but, Caesar I think really outdid him self here and I love that the group now has both subharmonics and overtone. I can see them doing some really unique stuff and they have definitely stepped things up to another level in the last couple of months.

It's great you watched. However, you missed the commentary for which I think you would have enjoyed knowing you were among other Halo fans (VoicePlay). It's such a great tribute to one of their own (Rek Dunn). It also shows pictures of him with Scott & Voiceplay on tour. It explains why they did it & were very familiar with the theme. Possibly add an edit once you listen to the commentary? Scott is one of the founding members. He was in Friday Night Lights, The Good Wife, Hart of Dixie, Scorpion & Lucifer along with movies, episodic TV (Law & Order among others) as well having done voiceovers for multiple video games.
This one is super nostalgic for me too. Not as a gamer (I literally only played this game once, and I died in less than five minutes. My brother threw an X-Box controller at me and expected a Gameboy Color player to know what to do with it.), but because the tv and game console was right outside my bedroom, so I fell asleep hearing this theme most nights all through middle school and high school as my brother and dad played this almost nightly. I used to be able to identify which game in the series and their kills (Elite, grunt, etc) by sound alone.

i know what you mean about being "transported" to a different time and place. i was fortunate enough to play a gig (brass band) on the norfolk broads, and just as the sun was setting, the conductor called for "the day thou gavest lord is ended". i can never hear that piece again without "seeing" the norfolk broads at sunset.
That sounds like an amazing experience. I just listened to this song while googling a few images to have a weak imitation what you experienced back then.
I think I will! There are lots of tutorials out there for most knots I’ve used, so I need to figure out a way to make mine unique and not just copycats of other videos. But once I figure out how to do that, I definitely think that would be a fun addition to my content :)
Yet another VP that broke Mortius. I am surprised there was no comment on the dedication to the shared loss. Always fun to see you getting flabbergasted.
Too bad you didn't play the last section which gives so much info about the group and an outstading bit concerning their loss of Rek at such an early age. I suggest that anyone wanting to see that, go to VoicePlays' actual video and watch the whole thing. It's well worth the time! 😎
I think that, when he is in an emotional state to do so, he could comment on his own personal experience with Halo. Just because it seems to be so close to the heart of some viewers.
It’s so fun when you love a bit in a song! LOL. So I’m guessing the outro made you cry (it did me)? And dude, the tie! Great knot. I’m going to find a really tricky one and double-dog-dare you to do it. 😉

I think I will! There are lots of tutorials out there for most knots I’ve used, so I need to figure out a way to make mine unique and not just copycats of other videos. But once I figure out how to do that, I definitely think that would be a fun addition to my content :)
@@officialmortius I'd definitely like to see how you made that knot.
Loved the red Vs blue skit. Started rewatching it recently on Rooster Teeth.
I believe Bungie and Microsoft needs to include this in their packages.....holy shitballs this is sooooo damn cool.
Yet another VP that broke Mortius. I am surprised there was no comment on the dedication to the shared loss. Always fun to see you getting flabbergasted.
Your enthusiasm was very silly. But it was also adorable and relatable.
Best reaction ive seen so far, props to you good sir
One of your most entertaining reactions ever.
Too bad you didn't play the last section which gives so much info about the group and an outstading bit concerning their loss of Rek at such an early age. I suggest that anyone wanting to see that, go to VoicePlays' actual video and watch the whole thing. It's well worth the time! 😎
Subbed instantly for the RvB reference, stayed for the awesome reaction
Hit play it pays homage to halo and former member to voice play who passed away not long ago
I think that, when he is in an emotional state to do so, he could comment on his own personal experience with Halo. Just because it seems to be so close to the heart of some viewers.
Your nerd really came out on this one -- I love it!!
That was fun. Thanks for your reaction ;
The Halo knot is awesome!
Geoffs E1-B0s are insane 🤯
It’s so fun when you love a bit in a song! LOL. So I’m guessing the outro made you cry (it did me)?
And dude, the tie! Great knot. I’m going to find a really tricky one and double-dog-dare you to do it. 😉
I think you enjoyed this. :) Do watch the remainder as it explains their reasons for making it. Oh, I love your tie know too. :)
Watch the charismatic voice of this with the person who actually wrote this. Very illuminating.
I just don't know why people don't watch and react till the end... 😭😭😭
The reaction to the outro would have been gold!! Especially from a big Halo fan like yourself!!
top 10 things that make you spaz and go "eeeeeeee"
Work Appreciated
Omfg that was insanely good
Awesome. Now I have to rewatch RvB for the 103rd time.
7:10 FELT THAT
I believe Eli is hitting an A5
Don't feel bad about freaking out and vibing. Trust me, we all had nerdgasms when listening to this cover.😂

Love your tie knot.
12:34 "I don't know what to do with my hands!" :P
B0...... Lowest note ever made by Geoff... And the lowest note I've ever heard in my life
Because of seeing your reaction to Lanes percussion, I recommend to watch and react to some of the stuff on Swiss Beatbox, you may like it a lot as well.
Thanks for being you.
