I cannot tell you how much you have inspired me to grow our own vegetables. Your videos and tips have never failed!! I live on the coast of Alabama, so my weather is pretty close to your Florida weather. I now have a fenced container garden area that is 54' x 56'. I am starting my earth garden this week. If you have any great tips on keeping the grass and weed population down, PLEASE let us know!! God has blessed you and I love that you always give Him thanks and glory!! Keep the videos coming!! I feel like I've known you both for years! LOL
It sounds like you have a marvelous garden going! Keep up the good work. This year we laid silage tarp under all our grow tables in the container garden. Then we covered the tarp with chopped straw. Looks real nice and keeps the weeds from growing under the grow tables. We love it. For our earth bed we installed landscape Timbers around the perimeter which stops grass encroachment. We still have to hand work the weeds inside the bed but the grass does not try to grow past the landscape Timbers. Let me get you a link to our earth bed. ruclips.net/video/c-ceckjer1k/видео.html
@@HollisNancysHomestead I'm not sure how I missed this video. Thank you so much!! I have heavy plastic under my grow tables at the moment, but plan on putting straw down when the weather starts getting hot. Well... I'm headed outside now to start planning my earth bed. I would not be where I am now in gardening without you two!!! You are such a blessing!! Hopefully, this last bite of cold won't hurt our veggies!!
I love your approach, the planning, diagrams and how you make records of everything. It is so much easier for me to understand and remember. Maybe I should start to keep notes so I can learn what works and what doesn’t for my climate. Blessings to you and Nancy and Bing Bing.
Thank you. Yes, a garden journal is very helpful. I gave dozens of them over the years and I still refer to them and constantly add to them. It seems to help me

You’re a fine source of garden information. Thank you for taking the time to make excellent instructional videos; as they are tremendously valuable to me and other folks with the same aspirations. In Jesus name, I pray over your family for health and abundance! Amen.
Awesome video,I’m an Oklahoma farmer I use my own cow manure and worm casting and it works great love watching y’all grow. From the Oklahoma farm boy.👍😎✌️❤️
Yeah with gas prices and inflation it’s getting pretty expensive now so if you ain’t got to buy your food that’s one less expense you have to spend. Yeah it’s getting pretty bad here in Oklahoma to the shelves are running out of food👍😎✌️❤️
Praying for your crops to make it through this weekend's temperature drop. I bought fruiting plants/trees the last couple of days and will be bringing them inside for the next two days.
Thank you. We just finished covering as much as we could. We brought in a lot of containers. I don’t think there is anything else we can do. Bracing for impact. Going down to 27 degrees. We will know in a few days what survived. 🙏
Thank you for your beautiful teachings… I don’t have enough room for rows… can you do a teaching on container corn?… minimum height? Maybe 4-30 gal pots? You guys are a gift straight from heaven 💞
Thank you Hollis and Nancy tried my first hand at corn last year they didn't get very tall didn't have much success but will try again this year I need to be a little more stringent with the water I think that's what happened they did grow but they didn't produce a lot of heads so thank you very much look forward to video number two. God bless the two of you
This is one of the videos I need I want to grow corn. Most gardening videos are on the same veggies to grow never corn. ..Thank you for this 3 part videos
Love this channel. Ya'll are absolute gems here on the youtube. I pray you are blessed with much success here, and spread this knowledge for our shared abundance through life. God bless you.
What do you use to keep grass and weeds down. I’m on North Florida and the nut grass is terrible. It is so hard to get all the grass out to prepare your bed for planting. I’m a new gardener can you help with any suggestions. I just found your channel and I’m so glad. Thank you!!!
I'm a gardener up in the state of Maine so it's a little tricky up here. All of my seedlings are under grow lights indoors and are coming along very well. Just can't wait for this winter to come to a close so I can start transplanting in Spring!!!
Hollis I have a question, last fall I stripped my chicken run and put it in the area I plan to plant corn, my soil is just Sandy loam I also intend to add good compost growing soil and till it all in along with my 10-10-10 will that work? My above bed was just to tight last year so doing a large bed in ground my bed is 30x30 .
Hollis, I purchased a very large plastic bin to use as a reclamation box. Do I need to put holes in the bottom for aeration? I'm new to vegetable gardening and trying to set up my yard similar to the various stations you set on your property. It's all so efficient and I love it! ❤️
I think your biggest challenge will be cross-pollination. Corn’s roots don’t go deep, so the container probably won’t limit root growth, but you’d need several containers all grouped together with access to a breeze to have a chance at pollination
Great video, as always. (Nancy, is he a perfectionist, or WHAT!?? lol) Question; if I’m only growing say 100 stalks couldn’t I grow in two rows and hand polinate instead of relying on the wind? Wouldn’t be that big of a chore, would it?? Thanks for making these corn videos - and all your videos.
All the notes and illustrations in my books are available on our community tab of our channel as well as our Facebook page. You may have to scroll down aways depending on how old the video is but they are all on there for everyone. ❤️
Your "terrible Florida soil" looks to be VERY workable - as compared to my heavy clay-based soil here in East Coat Canada. It seems to me that it is much easier to amend - though it will probably need much more organic amendment than my soil.
Thanks for another great video. I have a question though, what do you mean by 'warm'? I rarely get a frost in winter, so I can't judge planting by last frosts. How warm does it need to be, or how cool can it be for corn to do OK? Thanks 😊
Hollis I tried corn for the first time a few years ago and got corn smutt. I haven’t tried it since because I heard it takes 7 years for the spores to die . Any suggestions?
@@HollisNancysHomestead thank you. I have sent them a soil sample and waiting to hear back. I was just hoping you might have a trick or two I could try while waiting. Thank you for your response and the videos you make. We love them.

Hi Hollis and Nancy, I have some white spots on the leaves of my corn, do you know what that means?

Again, thank you for sharing. Sound like containers are not so good to grow corn
I agree
I live in an apartment, is there a way to do this in a 5 gallon bucket or would it be an epic fail? Thank you! You guys are the best! God bless you🙏🌈
I think your biggest challenge will be cross-pollination. Corn’s roots don’t go deep, so the container probably won’t limit root growth, but you’d need several containers all grouped together with access to a breeze to have a chance at pollination
I think Burpee sells seeds that work in containers. Check them out. Good luck!

Hello I have a question for the garden expert, I seen people grow corn in 5 gallon buckets, how many plants per bucket, 2 or 3 ?
Have you ever tried to do the three sister when growing corn? Been looking for a video on it
We have no video on that. I did it when I was a kid but not since
Your "terrible Florida soil" looks to be VERY workable - as compared to my heavy clay-based soil here in East Coat Canada. It seems to me that it is much easier to amend - though it will probably need much more organic amendment than my soil.
I find mixing some ash, along with some top soil and manure, with some of my clay here in Michigan, has worked pretty decent.
Were is the scarecrow? I can see the better half. Great video.
LOL. Bing Bing is in charge of that🐶
Thanks for another great video. I have a question though, what do you mean by 'warm'? I rarely get a frost in winter, so I can't judge planting by last frosts. How warm does it need to be, or how cool can it be for corn to do OK? Thanks 😊
72 degrees F and above during the day

Can you use osmocote in the veggie garden?
Yes
Would popcorn be grown same as corn?
Yes maam
Will you please show us or tell us what you were using to plant the seeds. It looked like pvc pipe???

Plant a fish with every seed like the Indians did.

Yes. All corn is grown the same

why would you plant every few inches if your going to just pull them out to space every 12 inches. why not just seed every 12". thanks
To ensure enough plants after germination.
