- A giant crack on a hillside in a Brentwood neighborhood continues to spark concern, but so far, officials say there's no widespread or escalating damage. READ MORE HERE: abc7.com/brentwood-hillside-n...
Mother Nature is being very kind with this early warning ...
Beautifully said.
Blame humans she's showing us we do not deserve her she will abolish humans and heal the world
Pack it up and get going people. Your lives are worth far more than those homes. Hillside slippage is not reversible and will lose with its fight with gravity.
Scaredy-cat!
I’m not worried
Cuz I just sold my house last week and don’t live there anymore . LoL 😂
@@mhughes1160I’m sure you couldn’t afford living there even if you wanted to
@@MrShafter13 because I might want to live in a house with a free burial service.
LoL 😂
Idk me personally if it's my life or 24 mill, that's a hard one
I would not trust them. If it moved once, it will keep moving, those properties just lost 90% of their original value, in just one day.
Well we can tell your not a professional nor a realtor with statements like that so no thanks I’ll trust the pros😂
90? whoa
Removing all the trees was a mistake
Yep
Yeah, they found that out the hard way up in Washington or Oregon in logging country. They allowed a total harvest of a hillside and sure enough, the whole thing slid down and covered a neighborhood. Of course, they already knew it was a risk, but $$$ rules. Scientists have long known that clear-cutting can disrupt the stability of soil and expose hillsides to greater amounts of rainfall, increasing the risk of a catastrophic landslide.
But then again, I’ve seen hillsides come down WITH the trees! Runoff culverts are probably the best defense for these hillsides.
that hill side is covered with trees...who said they were removed?
@@neckarsulme I don’t know what hillside you’re looking at but the one with the huge crack has several bushes but very few trees.
People, a crack on a hillside equals RUN! - You'll thank me later 🙂
Pack then run.
The rain water has No where to go but down.
🙏
People. There’s a reason a lot of companies stop insuring in California. They know something huge is coming. ❤
My brother and his family live in California and I keep hoping they will move away from it.
@@tshaffer9681 what’s funny is that they’re have been explosions heard for 3 years straight underground that never got any resolution. Now the whole ground is cracking and shaking. What’s more rare is an earthquake during winter and we have been having a lot of them in the past 3mos. Get ready.
I'm not a geologist, but that hill is going down.
I’m a certified GTFO-logist and I agree.
Soon. Mother Nature is giving them a warning.
More rain or not, that does not look good to me. Looks like a large chunk of hillside is going to eventually slide if gravity has it's way. The houses above and houses below need to be evacuated until the hillside is secure. Agencies said they are monitoring the hillside for movement and no movement is happening. Fine but, there was movement otherwise there would NOT be a large crack. Any bets this hillside will slide in the near future ??? I wouldn't want to be living above or below this crack.
Real estate developers will build ANYWHERE !!!!!
It’s almost like building homes on hillsides is prone to landslide dangers
They probably should have built hillside culverts so all the rain doesn’t saturate the ground.
I recently came across some that run directly through people's yard. City owned that is.
they probably shouldn't have built anything on a steep hill....or at the bottom of it
@@neckarsulme as long as they have a good hillside drainage systems it should be fine. In fact, all the new homes being built sit on caissons anchored deep into the ground. In a way they hold up the hillside. The problem here is that there was probably a fracture that wasn’t visible, then all the water seeped in, soaking the bottom of the hillside and when it got soft al the weight caused it to sink down. In Los Angeles, they need a good network of hillside drainage, shrubs and trees planted on slopes to help keep the dirt in place and finally, they need to irrigate regularly. Currently the state cuts off all water to landscaping during droughts, usually all the trees and shrubs die that are planted on freeways and other areas. The state seems to think there really is a water crisis, all they have to do is drill agricultural wells all over the state where people don’t live and then pipe that to Los Angeles. The ground water is always abundant.
Also, the reason it’s important to regularly water hillsides is because the ground holds water, when an earthquake happens the dirt can move, if it’s completely dry it becomes like a rock, any ground movement and large fractures and cracks form.
This is so sad.
Pray for Brentwood 🙏
you got to be kidding me.
silly RUclips prayers. hahahahahahahahaha
Pleeeez
lmao they will be alright homie.
Building on the hillsides brings with it the danger of slides, this is why most all of the ranchers I know don't build on the hillsides or on top of hills. When officials tell you that to the best of their knowledge there is no danger it is probably prudent to ignore them and get the hell out of Dodge.
If there's one thing I have learned in my many decades on Earth. Believe your eyes, not what some government employee says. That looks like a huge problem too me and I would gather every single person in that area thinks the same thing, unless of course they were duped. -
Let the RICH people living in Brentwood to worry about crack.
Blackhearted much?
@@linedanzer4302 Right? Like I get that some people are broke but being envious of others who are successful is childish.
@CaliforniaMISC, don't fret. They will worry about it and resolve it on their own.
They should be able to afford some tarps to cover that. If they can find any at this point.
Good let mother nature fix all those bad attitudes up there.
You were home schooled by a day drinker huh
Im praying you don't get ass cancer but if you do....
They're actually all a bunch a very nice people and they are not presumptive like you.
Better sell that house asap
😅
it just lost 85% market value
It’s coming down and nothing nobody can do about it but just brace for it or evacuate in the end. It’s coming down. Good luck.
Some basic rules for buying a home. Do not by on a hill. Do not buy in a flood prone zone. Do not buy when there is a hill directly behind your home. Do not buy in the forest. Do not buy near a forest. Do not buy where it rains a lot.
That thing will give.
It's literally all going down the crapper
Don't live here do you

The fourth largest economy on planet earth is doing just fine thank you.
Oh those poor rich people didn't realize living on a cliff or shoreline is not the best idea.
Right? These people are why home owners insurance is so high for everyone else who does not live on some poorly thought out cliff side mansion
IMAGING living their to get away from the homeless and drug issues of the city only to possibly be homeless from crack

I live 2000 miles away…I’m not concerned
Good and please stay 2,000 miles away.
@@linedanzer4302 you’ll take care of it…I wouldn’t come to LA now so you have no worry
Same here I live in the Northeast. We have our own problems. Who gives a shit about superficial Los Angeles? That entire LA County could slide into the Pacific and do the rest of California and the rest of the country a long overdue favor.
People who build homes like this should be required to be self insured.
developers are building these hillsides & homes for ‘crazy’ people on the top of them to sell it to them
they are...that's what home owner's insurance is
@@neckarsulme do you know what any insurance is? It’s the insurance for RISK, means the probability of something happening (especially cars, then homes, then people, etc.,) and the PREMIUM on EVERYBODY is calculated base on that RISK factor with more risky customers paying a little bit more! Then with “natural disasters” all taxpayers are paying for it with taxes aka federal assistance. Not only that, if there are mass “disasters” such as we are witnessing right now all across the USA & especially in FL, CA, TX, OK in states with hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, flooding, etc., the insurance companies either will INCREASE premiums on EVERYBODY to 💰tens & thousands of $ or they will refuse insurance (mortgage must have insurance unless house is paid off & it’s up to you) or they will refuse to do business in some states or they will go out of business all together or any combinations of these factors.
If buyers don’t care about their own homes, well being, safety, ground stability, etc., why should all others/taxpayers pay for when something happens. There are homes built within past 7 years (for example) right on the top of San Andreas fault line’s tail literally. Land was cheap? Nobody else was this crazy? nothing will ever happened? government (aka taxpayers) will pay for it? Is this what a REASONABLE person is doing in USA? Greed & everybody else to pay for it? Private property - if somebody is crazy this way this s/b their financial burden not mine! right? We are all suffering when nobody will insure you or your insurance premium will be so high that you can not afford it but (worse) you must have it - car, mortgage
give it time, it"s coming down
It’s not that the hillside could be slipping it is slipping.
More rain coming throughout March .....I'd be very worried
u better start worrying about it whenever you heard 'experts' say "dont worry about it"
This is just the start of more to come. Lots of whistling past the graveyard.
I bet people in Brentwood never thought they'd have to worry about the crack epidemic...
Well dah
A really good rainfall and a little ground shake ( earthquake ) and you'll be sorry you didn't move sooner.
Living in LA is just a massive gamble. Sitting in a dilapidated casino.
Dilapidated casino? What cave did you just come out of? 🙄
@@user-ke9yk5qp3u do not know what what big words mean?
@@mrbard1 the only thing that is rundown is your brain.
@@user-ke9yk5qp3u says you.
Who is fooling who? Cracks on steep slope means trouble. Landslides can occur weeks or months after rain stops.
well they get paid to say theres no danger in that huge crack. property values are important in Brentwood
Ohhhh those poor poor rich people, how will they ever recover from this tragedy? Shezzz, I know maybe they should consult the homeless on how to survive on the curb.
Why do people think that just because something hasn’t happened in “their lifetime” means that it will never happen? Do they not understand that their lives are but a mere speck on the timeline of the Earth? That hillside has been there long before us…
It is compromised. More rain means more slippage.
Wait, they dialed 911 because of a crack in the hillside? That's ridiculous.
Well they weren't going to report it to Domino's Pizza.
Note to self, don’t buy a house on a hillside. 😳
I’ve seen that plastic sheeting on hills from last year, all tattered and torn. Do they just leave them in place until they slowly rot away?
yes, LA democrats are good at screaming about things that are bad for the environment, then do things like that
if its anything like beverly hills that mansion is sitting on 60' caissons because the soils are so weak
DEFUND THE RICH
Crazy
My dad told us about the landslide in 1958 that covered PCH.
I THINK I remember that Brentwood had a huge wildfire in the early 60’s
No matter the wealth you would be worried if this was above your house. At the same time, they are the super wealthy to live there high in those exclusive hills. If I was going to build or buy a house there I could easily afford experts to come and tell me "Is this safe or not?" No, don't do that it costs money and I have partying to do and a new RR to buy. I am special, nothing can happen to me. Payback by nature is a bitch. Buy where the water runs down, not, onto your property. DUH.
California is sinking
Can they proactively reinforce this?
Holy crackatoa Batman
Good one !
NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! 👀❓
This was bound to happen
I'd be worried especially if you got more rain
They shouldn't be building on next to a hill. 😮 it will come down . Just a matter of time. People think they can live anywhere.
What does USGS say?
"safe and effective"
"If you see me running, try to keep up".
Removing trees to build homes will eventually prove to be not a good thing.
"in the vicinity of that area" - nice one
Oh no..rain coming!🤦
tHere crack appeared on a hillside ? !! 😱
They "checked for movement". There is a very large crack, so of course there was movement!
If Vesuvius were looking as your hillside looks this morning I would get out of Naples.
it awakens
Yeah right nothing to worry about 😂
Yeah, It’ll buff out… lol
Why is this a news! These are rich peoples homes, let them worry about it!!
Nothing to worry about. Well, if that isn't the biggest load of 💩
It’s all the rain from last few weeks…
Evacuate….
I’d be packing my documents …and valuables…
Hydrogeology is who needs to look into a slip fracture like that ? Too many hillside homes built up there already but each construction project has the capacity to alter the way water moves through the ground water tables etc. 🤷🏼♀️
Oh Yeah dwp, Fire dept and some random ass..."It's Fine" not 1 geologist!! 😂😂😂
At the one minute mark, he clearly says a geologist looked at it as well.
@@kevinbossick8374
Oh snap didn't even hear that..oh then yeah nothing to worry about.
@@4everMatador I agree. I still would be concerned.
All it will take is “the big one”
I hope everyone is safe, but they're not! Advise derived from scientific studies and analysis is ALWAYS only based on historical evidence. In other words, the only way studies are worth a dime is after the fact. Once that hill, along with the mansion on it is on top of the homes below that is when experts can tell with certainty whether or not the area was at risk. Period. Anything they say before that is 100% speculation. Hence, I say RUN!!! Keep paying for your insurance and collect later.
Just fill in the crack.
Just go to Home Depot and get a couple of tubes of driveway crack repair. Maybe a roll of backer rod. Hill will be fine. 😎
Well once it collapses completely they'll know if it's safe or not 😒😒
Very cool!
