It's a great technique! When I use it on rivers, I cast downstream and hold the lure against the flow. It's then being worked by the current so anything you with your rod is extra. You can literally hold it static and still catch! Good vid as always, Ginge!
Learning so much from this channel... Love this style of fishing at the moment and slots in around life haha. Don't have the time to sit in a bivvy for 2 days anymore!
Dropshot is a damn effective way of fishing! Small baits and light rods in general are the funniest way of lurefishing. Just caught a 10lbs pike with a 3g mikro jig the other day :) as allways your video is very inspiring and entertaining! would love to go fishing with you some day, especially in those nice rivers you got there
Possibly my favorite rig for bass and panfish... Really can catch large and small species with the right bait. Its tempting to keep it static... This is fine in a current etc. but don't be afraid to drag it along rocks or near laydowns. That weight makes a lot of vibration and noise and will draw fish in. Tight lines.
I'd love a specific stocked venue full of specimen sized perch ,our best looking fish by far in my opinion and I've caught some lovely grayling but there's just something about perch that really sets them above the rest
@@stupydcollier2637 I wish I could tell you where I fish. My wife won't let me tell anyone though. She had a 19" perch there last year as part of a huge bag. All on the dropshot. We get the place to ourselves regularly. Nobody there fishes like we do. We have had bags of multiple large perch there. And really it is our first choice to fish. Even with a long drive and expensive ticket. Dropshot heaven. I am gutted to not share but so many places I fish have been wrecked for us by the noob invasion. She literally made threats if I tell anyone.
I notice you've put the lures on the hook as you would with a jighead. Instead try putting the hook through the head of the lure so that it sits on the bend of the hook, allowing it to move around more freely. Doesn't affect the hookup rate because of how they inhale it.
I think it accually affects the hookup Rate because on My 5“ baits fish tend to attack the bait head First and That extra movement when you Head/nose Hook the bait saved me easily a few 4 pounder
That was awesome. Looking at the knot you've used you could have seen Carl and Alex's excellent tutorial video :) I gave up on dropshotting a few years back - I kept picking up Pike up to 10lbs. I never got bitten off but with no wire trace it was too risky to continue in my opinion. Same thing happened with jigging - but I can at least use wire for jigging so that's still my go to method.
Was this recent only asking because im just getting into perch fishing and want to know best time of year to catch perch and is winter anygood for them
Have you tryed a hook on the bottom a swivel and a ball weight sitting on swivel. The fish take the hook and can't feel the weight. We do this in the Highlands for trout with a worm salmon sea trout brown trout pike perch elks that's all you catch in the rivers. Some artic charr.

I've never met a freshwater British angler that eats his catch unless hes trout fishing. @@mtfishingshooting4808 If everyone started eating them here in the UK, our waters be fish-less in under 5 years. It's bad enough with uninvited guests stripping the waters of anything they can eat. There are many natural waters that are now not worth fishing in my area because of it.
Use a thick fluro carbon hook length. Don't go to thick though it will impede movement of the bait .Pike anglers use fluro carbon leaders bit to thick to use for this kind of fishing though. You want it to move natural.
What is this thing that literally everybody says about the dropshot being a small fish method? My experience is the exact opposite. It is at the point where I think everybody is doing it wrong lol. My setup is a 25g 2.7m rod and usually a half ounce weight and three or four inch lure. Size 4 hooks are about the smallest I use. A 1/0 is not unusual for me. You say the perch you catch is a big one for the dropshot but that has become an average size for my wife and I. I do have an ultralight setup but it just doesn't get used that much. Usually now I just leave it in the car. Or use it for short range stuff. Dropshot is most definitely NOT a small fish method.
Try the zman baits and dont move the rig much. They seem to go for the lure more when it's hardly moving. Check out our video of some giant specimens caught last week
