I think it misses a lot from Sygic Travel, where you can plan with time schedule and can move pins if it take too much, but paying. For free, is having a lot
Hi from the UK. I am brand new to Google My Maps. I just sat through 2 other overcomplicated RUclips tutorials on GoogleMyMaps and was just about to have a long break in frustration when I came across your video and I was just like yes! thank you! The 2 other tutorials couldn't even explain what layers were clearly and you just got straight to the point and explained it all clearly. Yippeee! I have started my first map.
Professor Amber you rock. Beautiful and clear tutorial on map making. It was a delight to watch and learn from you. I'm a recently retired map maker (used ESRI & Google) and love your work.
I learned so much, you are a great teacher. I've used the my maps to plan motorcycle trips but I was uninformed about layers! This answered all the questions I didn't know to ask. Thanks!
Clear and to the point tutorial. Specifically liked layers with accommodations, sightseeing and friends&family separated and color-coded. Turning itinerary into a navigation on mobile device is still a mundane task but at least some solution. My moto trip planning before this tutorial was based on putting next gas station. And big problem was Google's limit of 10 points. Now with separate layers for gas and supply shopping places it can and will be done the easy way. Big thanks to Amber! Subscribed!
Thanks for the info about route planning with google maps. An added bonus is that you are an RVer! My wife and I lived in our motorhome for 10 years, Workamped during the summer and traveled during the winter (to warmer climates)...We have been stationary for the last 10 years but still have the Gypsy spirit in us. I am planning a trip for a friend, driving her from Texas to New Hampshire via a wedding in Virginia and was looking for a tool to giver her an estimate of cost and time, this seems like a useful tool. We, wife and I, just completed a trip NH - CA and back with our newly acquired Electric Vehicle (EV) - a fun experience (can't be in a hurry though). While I use several other tools to identify the details of charging stations, it seems like this planner may be helpful for macro views. We did make extensive use of google maps for real-time GPS guidance. Anyway - Thanks for your clear explinations
Thank You so much for this tutorial on a part of Google Maps I never knew about. I used standard Google Maps to plan our 2020 (cancelled) road trip. Its re-planned for 2023 and I will be using My Maps for our 35 day trip (estimate 2500 - 3500 miles). Its our 5th/6th ?? road trip starting 1994 with a Rand McNally Map. That was our bible till 2018 when we bought a US Sat Nav (We are Brits) which got us through 9 States from Vegas to S.Dakota. Your tutorial will allow us to plan our longest trip yet - NC, SC, GA, Ala, Miss, La, Tx, Ark, Tenn, SC, NC - a huge loop. We will now not miss as many 'Places of Interert' as we did in 2018. Trawling through State Tourist Info on the web or on paper just takes to long during the trips. Again - thank you so much.
Thank you for walking us through the Google maps. Never knew it could do so much! I will have to watch the segment over a couple of times. I am a techno- weenie. Thanks for the lesson!
Many thanks. I'm a long-time G-Maps user but didn't know of My Maps. I immediately tried it using the Chrome browser on my tablet and quickly discovered that it is difficult/impossible when using my finger as a mouse. A PC with mouse and keyboard seems to be the best (only?) way to use My Maps. Thanks again.
Thank you so much. First tutorial that shows how to use what you planned. Planning is one thing, putting it to use is what its all about. Thanks once again.
Thank you so much for this! I’m about to go to Florida to visit my nephew traveling from California and stopping along the way to visit others as I go. Thank you!
I'm planning my first trip using this method. Heading out in a few weeks. Kinda figured the pins out as I went from laptop and google earth to google maps and my iPhone. Thanks for the tips, very helpful.
Came here in search of finding a legend on google maps when getting driving directions around Iceland. Didn't find that but I learned so much! Great instruction. If you know how to find a legend I'd love to learn! Thanks!
Thank you so much for making this video! I am doing a road trip around France and later in Australia. The amount of map apps out there is a little overwhelming and I like to stick to apps within Google. Thank you for showing me how to use My Maps, it is fabulous.
Thanks for explaining how to USE My Maps! I put in a lot of time developing my route but was frustrated that I couldn't just follow the route. Your solution isn't perfect, but it is AN answer to how I can use the route... 1 step at a time. Frustrating that I manually moved the road that Google chose for me so I could stay along the coast, but I'll just do that on my own. THANKS!
Thanks for the tutorial on My Maps Amber! It is an invaluable help and will be at the heart of my wife and my 5-week tour of Europe starting in early December 2023. It's a mystery but I could not find how to get off first base as regardless of what device or Google account I used I could not find "Your Places" in the drop-down menu for Google Maps. I was about to give up when I stumbled on My Maps where things suddenly looked like your screen, and I was off and running. I still don't have "Your Places" in my menu but I get to my map via a link to "My Maps". Another mystery, but this time with a great outcome, is that in addition to my Windows 10 desktop where I do all my input for the trip on My Maps, I can access my trip on my Motorola Android smartphone and Lenovo Chromebook via the synchronized bookmarks. I was dreading your bit at the end of your tutorial about how to make this work on other devices so it was a relief then it just worked. Thank you again and keep up the great posts. You appear to be a great inspiration for many people. You certainly are for me!
This was fantastic! I didn’t know this existed. Your tutorial was easy to follow and the perfect level of detail. I can’t wait to plan my first trip this way! Thank you!
Thanks. Ive been using mymaps recently and just looking for ideas on how to enhance how I'm using it. Good to get your ideas. I use the layers for the different days or locations, but considering the way you do it by type and might re-organize. I also color by location, and I'm definitely going to change that to type. One question I still have is if I can re-organize the layers in the sorting priority I want, that you didn't mention. Good video - thanks!
Thank you loads! I am planning a cross country road trip and looking for guidance. This is prefect I may be calling on you, Amber in the future!! Thanks again - Ed C
Great tutorial. I created a 3,400 mile cross country trip from San Antonio, TX to Kent, WA. I noticed that My Google Maps doesn’t reflect or post traffic issues.
thank you so so much for this video. I am plannig a trip to Nova Scotia for 2022 and this will help emensely. Will certainly come back several times to get all the tips.
Thank you, thank you, thank you...you really helped me get used to this great tool. I had a couple of frustrating moments...but with rewind you helped me get the right process for mapping out my route.
I came across this video looking for how to pin things on the map and I really love how you describe things. I learned the different icons and layers. I will sign up for the nomad boot camp. thanks again for the great video.
Thanks Amber. Trying to find a campground at the end of a driving day is exhausting. I stumbled from Illinois to Virginia...it was rough. Stay Beautiful, you are a great help.
Thank you - this video provides an excellent explanation. Spoiler Alert - the route in Google My Maps is NOT available in Google Maps on the iPhone. I have trying to figure this out for some time now; thank you for answering this question too.
I saved this as I wasn't quite at the planning stage when you published it. Now that I am, I've followed along and this is awesome! Thank you so much!!! 💖🚙🇨🇦
Great tutorial. Well explained without a bunch of fluff. Also super cool is that lifestyle to explore the USA. One of my dreams. Very neat use cases. Thank you.
Wow ... this is excellent! I discovered several of the features prior to this video but the additional ones that you have mentioned will really come in handy. Thank you for the video.
Just a fluke I came across your instruction tutorial. Bit of luck for me as I am arranging NC500 in Scotland. So clear and easy to follow. So a big thank you.
Thank you! I have attempted to learn this on my own but now you have cleared up several questions on what was available to include. Wish only could somehow merge my google timeline data into MyMaps without the task of adding each place manually. Another question I have is whether any data from my timeline could be printed. Help center has not said outright cannot print. Any ideas?
This is the best planning video I have seen. I am hopping into it now. One question……..if we plan not to take our PC on the trip can we still add and adjust on the iPad o4 phone. Ooopps sorry one more question how many devices can your maps be on please..soo great thanks
This was an awesome tutorial. I was messing around with AAA Trip Tik today but I really like this Google maps. I had no idea I could do all that. Thank you! Planning my trip from TX to Maine. By way of Cleveland . Gotta go to the R&R Hall of Fame.
This was very helpful. Question. It seems you can only add 10 spots in the Directions. Is there a way to add more or do you have to duplicate and finish in another?
I've looked at tutorials for google maps and I think your site makes the most sense. I've been adding directions but I've run out of layers. Is there a fix for this? I need to add about 3 more. Thanks.
Just found your RUclips channel and found this tutorial very helpful. Subscribed and turned notifications on. Looking forward to more content and need to explore your past work going forward. I like to plan very specific scenic routes (rather than automatic routing that Google uses). So the fact that Google MyMaps cannot transfer the detailed and preplanned routes to an iPhone is disappointing. Simply setting the destinations on the phone and then asking for directions will not replicate a specific scenic route that may have been otherwise planned, unless waypoints for every major route decision is created. Do you know of anyway to get a specific route transferred to the phone so it can then be used with CarPlay. Or are stored waypoints the only option?
@@storychasing BTW, emailed you a Starbucks gift card as a thank you. SB is showing it as “unopened” still so check your email if you want a refreshing drink on your travels!
Thank you for the detailed overview. I managed to figure a lot of this out but came to this video to see how to use the "directions" tool on mobile. This is a massive oversight by Google. Seriously what's the point of doing a custome driving route with out being able to hit "start" and it populate on mobile ? Just to see distance? Wow. I tried using this feature while in Hawaii as we had 10 destinations along one road. I had to manually input each one because I couldn't figure out how to hit start on the directions layer. Ugh
So happy to find you did a video on this and I am already subscribed! Very helpful, I am planning out my trip I am taking sometime in January across the country!!
Thanks for the easily understandable description of how to use this feature from Google. I tried my hand at it before watching your video and got stuck. Thanks!
Great video Amber! Do you know if it's possible to customize the route rather than just use the default suggested route? I like to use the "Avoid Highways" option in the regular Google Maps but I can't find it in "My Maps".
Google did a fantastic job on this, that’s for sure!! One Question?? In your van, you might not be too concerned, but I’m in a small Class C. Do Google My Maps have built-in details like overhead clearance issues like bridges/overpasses? I currently have to use multiple apps, each with different information, to plan any trip I take. Maybe Google My Maps will cover all bases??
thank you so much for this tutorial, it really helps me alot, one question is, how can i load my photos and some gps points in csv format into my map, since i tried it can not load?....thank you for your response...

Love your hair too! Especially the wave!🙋
Great tutorial😀

Absolutely OUTSTANDING video!!! So helpful for those of us who are slightly challenged in these areas😀🐾
Thanks - so helpful! planning a trip and wasn't using the features in the best way. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing!😊
Thanks Awesome Amber !! Wonderful explanation. It makes travel planning much easier.

Thanks Amber! I thought I knew how to use Google My Maps, but you showed me a lot of things I didn't know about it. Great tips! Appreciate the info. 😊
You're so welcome! Hope you're well Sandy!
Awesmome tutorial. Concise and to the point. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I can now use the maps tool to my advantage.
Absolutely brilliant, Amber!

Ugh
You saved my life, Amber! Appreciate it!
