I only discovered My Maps yesterday. I had a friend send me a GPX map he makes in Guru Maps, I remembered I had OSMand so I started messing with that but go a bit overloaded. So I did what we all do, googled how to use those, stayed up too late ... then just now your video was suggested so here I am. Very good mellow and easy to understand video, thank you. TBH I started thinking why would I need anything else, but I've realised Google Maps doesn't get all the way down to the tiny walking paths I need for back country m/c trails in Thailand. I'll check out more of your videos, My Maps can be good for getting the overall plan done quickly.
Google maps has some potential, but still falls short. Need to be able to edit it on my iphone, because I am not driving with my laptop. For example, if I have a route planned on my map and then want to add a restaurant or gas station, to my route, I cannot do that. I can share it, but it is only for viewing.
I understand that you need to create the map on a computer, but can you then view the map on an iPhone so you can use it while walking around? How? Thanks!
Clear instructions thanks. Can you tell me how to get rid of all the markers so I have a clear map to only display my own points and not all the other businesses?
Good tutorial but I suggest making layers based on POI, so like restaurants, museums, parks etc etc. but it is up to each individual to do what they want tbh.
Hello - Is there a way to create a layer but be able to adjust the numbering so it doesn't read 1,2,3 rather it would read 5,6,7, etc. I am doing a report for work and there's a list of properties within a market and there's numerous submarkets within the market. I am showing a map of each of the properties in each submarket and I would like the numbering to reflect what the property list is showing when I create a new layer. I would really appreciate any advice for this!
Hi, I'm just discovering GMM and it looks really interesting. I'm thinking of using it for business purposes. If I wanted to create a map of, let's say, the plumbers in a local area, how could I do that? Is there a way to show ONLY the plumbing businesses in a specified area, and not all of the other things that show up for that area, like restaurants and other points of interest? Thanks!
You can’t do this on a iPad Pro ? What about a laptop ? It must be a desk top ? I’m confused & dont own a desktop- trying to plan a 1 week London map - Is it possible to use a library to set it up then have it avail offline on phone etc
I just make a new Map for each city. Then I use the Layers to categorize by Attractions, Food, Hotels, etc.. I don't really think it makes sense to use Layers for different cities considering the point of the layers is to hide and unhide different pins. If you're looking at the map in a different city, you're not going to see any of the other city's pins anyways so it doesn't really matter.
@@travelaimes I do not understand what you mean # of stops... I thought we could not add directions inside a layer but create a layer with directions only, I did make one and when I try to create another the options are not possible to select, but only select a line. Maybe is a bug on My Google Map
I am finding that video thumbnails are not showing up for the locations I am entering in My Maps. There is a text link that works but the thumbnail that is supposed to show is just black. Wondering if anyone has had this problem and has found a solution?
Once an itinerary has been created in Google My Maps, is there a way to transfer it to Google Maps in order to make it "mobile"? I would like to create a trip and send it to my childrens phone on Google Maps incase they get lost.
Didn't help. The driving layer only holds 10 destinations, just like regular google maps. I can't figure out how to add another layer with 10 additional destinations (I have some 150 spots I want to drive to over a year)
Google maps and Google my maps both fail IMO. Google maps is far more versatile than My Maps, but fails because you cannot export as a GPX or KML file to download to a Garmin sat nav. My Maps, you can download to KML or GPX, but the route for driving cannot have parameters set to suit the journey you want to make. Its OK if you are happy to drive from one point to another using the roads Google choose, usually a motorway or toll road. If you want to use less busy roads, more scenic, driving through villages and small towns perhaps, then you cant. the perfect solution would be for Google to enable export of Google map files to KML or GPX.
Thank you for creating this! Would you be interested in collaborating on the development of a mobile app that allows you to access and create interactive maps to share with others? The app lets you invite friends to participate in the map creation process and allows you to interact with friends within the map itself. The app is almost ready, but would you like to try it before we launch? If so, with your feedback we could fine tune it to create something that you and your fans would love.
Does Google actually think that people don't take TRAINS, for god's sake? Then why is there no rail option when adding directions? AS IF I want to drive on the wrong side of the road from London to Liverpool...no thanks, give me British Rail, Google!
How have you used Google My Maps in the past? Or are you just now discovering it's features? Let me know 💬
yeah I’m gonna try to print out maps of my city and of some national parks.
I've used Google My Maps before!!!!
I'm just starting, your tutorial is good. But the app needs work.
Hi, do you know if you can transfer the directions layer you create to Google Map so you can actually navigate?
@@Jojo_Flake Where you able to print out the maps and the layers?
From all the google maps tutorials I have seen this is the best, thank you.
Been using google map all these days and never discovered there's such feature. Thank you!

Clear and concise tutorial about the google map.
WOW! Mind blowing! I never knew about this. I've been using the regular Google map and wondered how I can save each day of my trip. THANK YOU
Very well done. Did not know about this feature. Other videos did not explain the process as well as you did. Thank you and thumbs up!

Thank you! I learnt something new today...
Thank you for the tutorial. It was explained very clearly and without all unnecessary comments and waste of time. Well Done. I love it 👍👍👍
Thank you for this detailed view of GMM! Exactly what I needed. :)

Hi, is it possible to change the colors of the walking or driving paths in Google My Maps?

Hi, can I write text overlay?
Can you print this out, with the layers and notes open?

how do I find other people maps that they made
Hi, can you only have one layer with the directions? And it is limited to 10 points ?
You can have multiple layers with directions but similar to google maps it’s limited in the # of stops
@@travelaimes I do not understand what you mean # of stops... I thought we could not add directions inside a layer but create a layer with directions only, I did make one and when I try to create another the options are not possible to select, but only select a line. Maybe is a bug on My Google Map
So you resell the maps you make? People buy them for the research you did basically?
Yes exactly!

Elevation info for hilly areas
What's the point in Google My Maps if you can't send a route to a navigation device like Google Maps?

Yes you can!
You can go on your phone, open google maps and then go to my maps and see them there
