Okay this video scared the hell out of me. I won't be do this anytime soon. The older Walkmans seem a little easier. Anyway, new subscriber, I''ll be watching your other repairs videos, thank you.
my ex50 walkman(same internal mechanism as in the video) makes the same buzzing sound and i think its cause of the "corrosion" in the motor magnet like you said(sounds like the back of a fridge buzzing), is there a way to fix this or should i replace it? if so where can i get a replacement? at the end of the video the music was fine how did you fix it?
The buzzing noise is caused by the capacitors failing - the only fix is to replace them. The motor corrosion doesn't cause noise but it causes loss of torque and higher current drain from the battery
@@beebeenuts7267 I did it with Panasonics from a UK trade supplier - you'd have to find SMD capacitors of the right value, voltage and size from a supplier in your country
Stock was surprisingly difficult to find and I ended up having to pay a premium to get them from Farnell. Drop me an email (should be able to find it on my RUclips profile) and I'll forward the numbers from the order I made!
Great Video, thank you. One of the best looking SONYs a nice blend of modern looks with mechanical buttons. Blimin good sounding too.

Thank You very well explained greetings from CDMX could You help me with name of they band
Thanks! What 'band' do you mean?
Değerli arkadaşım güzel, detaylı bir onarım olmuş. Elinize sağlık. Ama müzik sesinde titreme var. Sanıyorum pink roller değişimi gerekiyor.
Bedtime viewing sorted 😊
Would the capacitors be the culprit of if I replaced belt and clutch gear and the sound sounds like the motor with hissing
Most likely yes! Some are used to decouple the preamp and Dolby stages, so if they fail, signal will not pass, and voltages will be off
@@jamesbennettmusic how hard and what capacitors would I need to change I was barely able to desolder and resolder the wires to flip the board
@@paulolivarri4552 all the SMD electrolytics like I did in the video - not easy

Great video. Mine has bad sound like snoring. Why ? Capacitors ? if yes, where can I buy them? Thanks
Thanks. Could be! I bought mine from Farnell in the UK, but you might have to find a regional supplier more local to you
@@jamesbennettmusic thanks, can you provide me list need to be replace according to service manual?

I'm sure that the comparable EX39 is going to be longer lasting than these EX49 long term after 30 years.
do you have a list of the capacitor part numbers you used? i recently picked one up and am struggling to figure out what i need to repair it

3:56 - actually that's the correct alignment side instead of upside down!

I would suggest replacing those electrolytics with ceramic chip caps
