My friend gave me a WM-10 back in like 1989 and it was still one of the coolest devices ever. It was missing the battery cover but otherwise the same as that one. A work of design art.
Still... the tech used in these 1.5 volt walkman is out of this world! They used step up circuits to make up to 5 volts to make the system work! Big thumbs up to the used components... after 35 odd years it still works!
My wm-10ii has developed a creaking noise. I'm considering taking it apart to dob a tiny bit of watch oil on the gears. any recommendations on where to oil?
Excellent tutorial! The tips and camera shots are detailed and easy to follow. Is the speed adjustment internal or accessible via port? Would be cool to check the speed and wow and flutter after belt change. Not trying to be picky, your vid is incredibly helpful 👍
engineer here, looking for any & all clues on restoring a couple of these things, one of the BNIB but non-func. the story I heard, ages ago, was that following the success of the TPS-L2 & its immediate successors, the head of the division responsible for walkmans took a block of wood the size of a cassette box into the design shop, where he told his engineers that the next walkman must be this size & shape. this was their challenge. & he signed the piece of wood on all its six sides so that they couldn't substitute a larger block. so they came up with the idea of the expanding case. the motor was novel, & there are dc-dc converters for the audio circuits (especially the dolby IC), so that the whole thing can run off one AA battery. but repairs on these are not for the faint-hearted.
And the machines rose from the ashes of nuclear fire, and a war began to destroy humanity. And it has been going on for decades, but the last battle will not take place in the future, it will take place here, in our time, tonight.
Hey man. Awesome video!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I have one of these WM-F10 and it’s so killer. But It needs a tune up. Do you do repairs? Radio works, wheels spin but cassette don’t play. Can you help me?
Would you be willing to service my WM-10 player? It looks pristine and it doesn't have any battery corrosion issues at all. I am located in the US of A
I have a complete Sony WM-10 had since new. I replaced belt, but switch s acting up. Could you look at and repair for me? I put new belt on. Thanks, Duane Michigan
Maybe, I have another WM-10 arriving this week. The one in the video above has a misaligned head and fixing that is beyond my skills. It's probably due to the damage from being dropped that caused the dent by the previous owner. So I may document a 2nd WM-10 that has some bad corrosion on the battery terminals. I also have an Aiwa and a Sony recording Walkman needing repair. I'm waiting on the belts so I hope to make videos when I get around to those.

Какие красивые и совершенные аппараты!
my first walkman was an AIWA, it was a cheaper brand than sony but its products looked awesome and worked fine
I had WM-10 back in 80’s teenage days… was my fave Walkman until i dropped it, dented by the volume knob . Should’ve kept it… looking at eBay 🤞

Thanks for the info.
Didn't know about the switchs problem. Have the same walkmans, the wm30 doesn't show any signs of life, hope that is the issue.
I learned about the swtiches from another youtube video. I hope my video helps with your WM-30
Great stuff I've got wm20 coming out soon 👍

The important thing is the walkman belt. Where can you buy it?
Cool! Will you do more walkman servicing videos?

Nice, acetone works much better on those old perished belts but you need to remove the capstan to clean it really good with very thin needle.
Could you please tell the length of the belt? Thanks!
♥w♥o♥w♥!! You really need "PromoSM"!!!
