This video shows how I fixed a WM-10 Sony Walkman from 1983. I cleaned corrosion from a leaky battery, and then cleaned the old melted belt and replaced with a new belt. I then used the battery cover and front door from a different WM-10 that I could not fully repair.

My left ear is enjoying this
And the machines rose from the ashes of nuclear fire, and a war began to destroy humanity. And it has been going on for decades, but the last battle will not take place in the future, it will take place here, in our time, tonight.
You should review the solo albums that Roland Orzabal has written
I absolutly love Leathur intro for Too Fast For Love! It's such a shame that they got rid of it on Elektra records :(
i NEED the acting my age vinyl
You have so much of it wrong my friend. Almost everything about your video is incorrect. I worked for Greenworld, the record company that released the all THREE, not one, pre-Elektra versions of "Too Fast For Love" and I was knee-deep in the sales/marketing and promotion of the album and was responsible for the for the largest percentage of sales of the release. We released it on cassette at the same time as the album. While the cassette was repressed a time or two when we sold out, there is only one version of the cassette. This is a more comprehensive video about the history and background of the album that I made last year. ruclips.net/video/okoyoNJTLE0/видео.html It features lots of rare photos of the band at our offices, rare adverts .... and include photos of the cassette front and back artwork. Check it out. . So this is hardly a vinyl only release! We put it out on cassette and Electra also released it on cassette as well as on 8-track tape!
I prefer “My Own Way” and “Lonely In Your Nightmare” from the US Version. They just seem fuller and more expansive imo.
I bought the cheapest non-functioning one from eBay, and it came all the way from Japan, so it is a JDM model. The video help me a lot getting the back panel open and the belt layout. The belt had turned into molten goo, yuck but the metal pulleys are not too corroded with green crap, so it is short job. On playback, the auto reverse works properly but the audio channel switching while engaging the auto reverse is initially not working properly, the audio is partially working (nothing to do with Volume POT meter) eventually it started working properly after engaging the auto reverse a few times, but I got to find that switch and lubricate it.
Great video! Thank you for putting this together.
Very helpful! Mine also had the dislocated auto-reverse spring & belt turned to goop. My tip/warning for everyone else: I *highly* recommend powering these with batteries. A chip ran very hot with my power adapter (despite correct voltage & polarity). I presume the circuit doesn't 'know' how to limit current. The same chip went from burning hot to room temperature with batteries. Cheers!
Very comprehensive, excellent. One correction: the hold back the rain version on the save a prayer night version disc is unique ONLY to that record. It has a longer intro for the apregiated sound, and the guitar drops out in large parts of the chorus to feature the harmony vocals more. Also. The disc is not a true night version since save a parayer is not extended or different (i think).
link for that bluetooth adapter?
My wm-10ii has developed a creaking noise. I'm considering taking it apart to dob a tiny bit of watch oil on the gears. any recommendations on where to oil?
I was wondering it could be nice if you will play the song Out the window from Van Halen as Marty did... It was very nice to finish the repair with that song!
Amazingly detailed video! Thanks!
Just what I was looking for, I’m looking at a copy of the leather record which is a US 3rd press.. any noticeable differences between 1,2,3 presses?
I was trying to figure out why the version on the greatest hits CD was lacking the bouncing keyboard sounds at the beginning. The best I can describe it is a sound like a synthesized accordion. I am going to get all the info off the Vinyl to see the exact version. That accordion sound, I think it may be lost, or so quiet it's difficult to hear on many digital versions.
He has the versions mixed up. It's the US album remix that has the bouncy keyboards. I just played them to confirm my memory.
@@Astrokurtis Yes that would be consistent a UK cd that has a US version. It could be that many of the later CD's that were remastered lacked the bouncy keyboards ?
The Rio Collectors Edition has both mixes.
They are not easy to fix. I had one and sold it, because it never worked as I expected. Of course it will get its basic functions if you change the belt and clean it, but the pinch rollers need to be replaced and even after that the Capstans have too much space I guess… when I moved mine around the Azimuth changed the whole time and the music faded. It depends on the tape you use… sometimes it got better, sometimes it got worse but it even can damage the tape. It's a big problem with many Walkmans. You can try to make them tighter with another distance ring. I couldn't find one that fitted perfect. The HS F07/P07 was almost the TOTL Model back in 85. There was only one which was better: The HS P08. That one had remotable Full Logic Control. But if the HS F07 works as it should, it sounds great. Cassettes can sound very good. The HS F07 has a relatively high W&F, 0,3% WRMS but a good Anti Rolling.
At least this Aiwa is easier to service compared to most of their stuff because most of them need to be desoldered to access the gears and belts.
I need to hear all the vinyl version of shut up!!! I like so more than the other version uploaded to RUclips!!!!!
No doubt Leathür records version is the only one worth listening to
I got the two box sets but the promo LR CD is something else. I only know of one guy who has it.
Excellent tutorial! The tips and camera shots are detailed and easy to follow. Is the speed adjustment internal or accessible via port? Would be cool to check the speed and wow and flutter after belt change. Not trying to be picky, your vid is incredibly helpful 👍
awesome video
I wish I could get the cd 😭
i have it along with soul on board and tomcats!!! (i’m a proud owner)
@@Satwix I got so excited I thought you were offering to sell it to them. I recently grabbed myself a PROMO version of Tomcats, and just today bought Soul On Board. Lucky you!
Great job brother. When I was 13 in 1983 hungry like the wolf was a top hit for me for sure.
Omg i have this aiwa player, i just found out its so rare to posses
I picked up a copy of Mad One at a reasonable price about 3 months ago, after about 8 years of looking for it.
i have the vinyl ep - the versions are slightly slower and heavier and dreamier - absolutely the best INXS ever! every few years i search for this release on itunes to no avail!
Ohh yes, I like the U.K. wersion best
A very complete report. I have several versions of the Rio Album, the CDs you showed, but I was always confused by Carnival. I knew the differences in the themes that you indicated, but you surprised me with the Rio song. Congratulations, very good work and I envy that collection of Vinyls.
Could you please tell the length of the belt? Thanks!
Hey man. Awesome video!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I have one of these WM-F10 and it’s so killer. But It needs a tune up. Do you do repairs? Radio works, wheels spin but cassette don’t play. Can you help me?
I am a huge Berlin fan and really cool that you did this. I knew about the different versions a while back but never heard the 7" version of the Metro. I sold my Enigma copy of the EP a while back on Discogs. Nice to have and if I ever come across one randomly I would surely buy it again. Your copy of the 7" looks to be in really nice condition as well.
replying from my personal account, yeah the 7" is in nice condition. I had John Crawford and Terri Nunn sign it a couple of years ago. John was really surprised to see it in such good condition. I also had them sign my Enigma Pleasure Victim along with David Diamond and Rick Olsen. I attended a show where Rick flew in to CA to play with them as it was his birthday. So I got them all to sign it.
@@richardcruzjr That's really cool. I actually went to a record signing here where I live in Pittsburgh way back before I could even drive a car. My Dad took me. They all signed the back of a Love Life cardboard promo with a weird riddle that was supposedly giving out an address where the band was staying. I cannot figure it out to this day. I may have given it to someone who bought my Enigma copy of Pleasure Victim but I think I saved it somewhere. I need to look.
@@richardcruzjr I found the signed Love Life card with their riddle on it. Very odd. I have a picture of it if you want me to send it to you.
Would you be willing to service my WM-10 player? It looks pristine and it doesn't have any battery corrosion issues at all. I am located in the US of A
On the US single of Rio I have, the bridge with the birds is missing to maintain a shorter song length (3:57).
This is very interesting, I wasn't aware of this and hadn't noticed. Thanks for the info. You only ever hear the LP version on radio here in Australia.
Funny how some bands remixed albums like that. Twisted Sister remixed Under The Blade for a US release in 1985, and Kiss remixed Reatures Of The Night for some reissue, in 1985 too. This was so interesting. Pity the Lethür version is a needle-drop in the box, but I'll buy it anyway. The music's too good and interesting to miss. :)
Very Helpful, Thanks so much !
The important thing is the walkman belt. Where can you buy it?
I'm so lucky, i bought aiwa hs px10 for 5$ at drift store. It sounds good after changing belt.
Звук только в одном канале
Awesome video!! Good job. I will never forget hearing the Graduate record on cd in 1991. It took a long time getting used to. My first Concert Experience was the Seeds of Love Tour 1989 here in Cleveland. Blondie opened but it was suppose to be Lenny Kravitz.
The 1st cd release on Castle Records was in issued in 1991. The deluxe edition came out 10 years later in 2001 which had a sticker on the jewel case which indicated it was a pre Tears for Fears release. The 1991 release I found in Toronto in 1992 and paid about $20 US dollars for it (I just required it) The 2nd release of the cd I bought new for about the same price of $20 and was lucky enough to find a second used copy for $5 in a local Exchange store years ago. I kind of like that 1991 release even though the 2nd re release does have a nice l fold out booklet.
Still... the tech used in these 1.5 volt walkman is out of this world! They used step up circuits to make up to 5 volts to make the system work! Big thumbs up to the used components... after 35 odd years it still works!
