This is not a movie about politics but a movie about men (see the scene in which both the soldier and the prisonner are facing the same fear together silently, equally). It could be any war, it happens to take place in Lebanon but it really isn't the point at all. All soldiers in that movie are everything but heroes, they mess up, kill wrong people, fall into craziness, it's not an apology of Israel or Lebanon, just an denunciation of war in general. It's a powerful movie that makes you understand war from the inside out, and how it destroys men, even the ones who survive it.

Very well said. We shouldn't descend into this 'us vs. them' shit. The film illustrates the insanity and horror of war and we see that both the young IDF conscripts and Lebanese civilians are caught up in the horror ordered and directed by sociopaths at higher levels who seem to enjoy it.
It's not about who is better and who isn't, it's about showing that we're all the same on the level of suffering and consciousness.

It's an Israeli British-made Centurion tank, called Sh'ot in Israel, although this specific version is most likely a Sh'ot Kal Dalet which was an upgrade to the Sh'ot that the IDF did during the 1982 Lebanon War.
The Sh'ot is a much older tank, but, in 1982 Israel was still introducing the Merkava Mk.1 and Mk.2 tanks into service, so this tank, since it was decently capable for the time, was still used.
It remained in service in the IDF all the way through to 2002 where all Sh'ots were eventually fully phased out and most afterwards were then converted into Armored Personnel Carriers (troop transports) that are still in service in the IDF to this day called the Nakpadon or Nagmash'ot.

I just saw this movie today. It is a great film in the sense of film making such as suspense and drama. It is an anti-war film because it shows the horrors of war ON BOTH SIDES. how it hurts innocent people ON BOTH SIDES. Stop being biased to your side. WAR IS BAD. that's the point its making. so everyone here stop trying to make war. I'm the first fucking person here that is actually talking about the movie and not bullshit propaganda that is irrelevent.

The rest of the world will also acknowledge the Son of God on earth, and for those who willingly submit themselves to his rule will be blessed, but for those who refuse and rebel, will be crushed and destroyed.

Historically Israel predates Palestine by a 1000 years, but they area has been ravaged through history by almost every empire. Then the ottomans lost it to Britains who administered the land, even after WW1 then plan was to give it back to the Jewish people whose home had been taken thousands of times and they had been killed and chased off thousands of times by almost everyone, then after WW2 they finally were given their actual homeland back. You here people crying all the time that America belongs to the Native Americans it was their first, but when someone actually got their homeland back after suffering a horrible ordeal years prior just for being Jewish. The Palestinians are the Philistines, their original
Land was Philistia if they want a country them their original tiny spot back, but all that claim is theirs is originally Israel and Judah, for centuries they waged war trying to take both Israel( remember David and Goliath) and Judah and never did, then once the Israelites were defeated by the other outside empires and then were basically destroyed as a people they were ran off or escaped at fear of being killed just for being Jewish just like in WW2 then the Palestinians got their way eventually when a Muslim empire ruled the region but they already had been inching their way into the land. Now after the muslim protectors were defeated in WW1 they basically became some form of squatters acting like it was ALL their homeland originally, but everyone who knew history knew it wasn’t, but they were allowed to stay a little longer even through plans were in motion after the League of Nations meetings. So the British after WW2 returned the Israelites their homeland at long last and it was returned to them right after another tragedy was forced on them as a people. Then they were armed and protected until on their feet well enough and even given nukes to make sure they would never lose their ACTUAL homeland again which had been taken from the Israelites so many times throughout history that yeah if you had someone at your door claiming it was all theirs again you’d probably be a little worked up too, the 2 million Palestinians living in Gaza are living in the original homeland area that spot was Philistia the border not exactly the same but what was lost at the top was gained at the bottom to the Egyptian border.

Read the scriptures if you have any intelligent understanding. I like this film in terms of cinematography and so on. But I don't like the characterizations. Idf soldiers are seen as fretful and shaky and don't know what they're doing. The Falangist is seen as this sadistic psychopath. even when he was coming to save their ass from terrorists. A man at that day and age would have seen in a lifetime his homeland turn into one inhabited by muslims driven northward, the earlier part of the movie shows a Christian family being slaughtered.

Israel was just trying to help Lebanon get rid of the Syrian army from inside Lebanon, plus pushing the terror organizations far away from the Israeli borders, and the final goal was to make peace with you and your country! Unfortunately their mission didn't end well, but obviously it doesn't matter cause you don't seem to want peace... Salam!

Wow , idf soldiers are the goood guys "he closes his eyes before firing because he cannot indure the scene of death , you people invaded Lebanon so we have each and every right to fight you and your still wanting to get back even though we have broken your army and your spirits and kicked you out. Secondly this movie aims only to show my country as a place ruled by terror and filled with hatred and sadness , but the thing is Lebanon is the most unique countrys in the world because if the diversity in climates , and religions ethnicities and cultures given that it is extremely small compared to other countries ,but from a certain perspective people might view Lebanon as I have mentioned specially after the terrorist explosions caused by extremists that are nurtured by isreal and funded by Saudi Arabia. This movie also aims to distort reality by showing party of God fighters as terrorists , but to me I just cannot view the terror in fighting for freedom and the act of standing up to an aggressor is heroic rather than vigilant.
As a conclusion I want to tell the zionists who made this movie that no matter how hard you try to distort the truth about Lebanon , about the martyrs and their resistance to aggression and love for freedom and dignity ; you won't succeed because the truth always prevails ; and know that next time we will be the ones to advance and retake the stolen lands , is isreal's desruction will be the work of our hand only.

It is important that I say, firstly I have no love for Israel's government whatsoever, I loath what has taken place. Taking everything into full account. I've been there and seen it, and just to reiterate I am not a supporter of Israel.
To say however that this film is zionist is to misinterpret the film, its no more zionist than waltz with Bashir is. This film is about the effects of war on the men in the tank. Men who were conscripts. It's really a good film and is largely apolitical and neither pro nor anti zionist. If you want to see a film of political propaganda that paints arabs as terrorists I suspect that is what you'll find if you watch the film American Sniper, well we can safely see that, that film will be totally dreadful.

I wish there were more people like you. You see things as they are rather than choosing a side and belittling the other

+Y2K Core That is a huge over simplification. There were atrocities committed by both sides, for example after the PLO pulled out of Beirut, the IDF sat on the hills lighting up the refugee camps as the Christian militias went in and massacred the remaining Palestinian women and children.

The IDF is an army of conscripts. Not like the US where all are volunteers.
War is a difficult thing and you can't expect people thrust into it to be fully composed at all times, never mind macho and cool.

It actually makes me sick to think about it. Our soldiers won the war, only for it to be lost by the politicians.
