      James Fortune that’s why the left is unable to successfully misconstrue Dr. Peterson’s words. And what so naturally occurs is the pathetic and yet feeble attempt of the left to bash and mislabel Peterson as an alt right racist.
      It’s not working.... the left is getting weaker

      Oners82 Women were not persecuted as Jews and blacks were. They lacked full equality but weren't targeted. This isn't to say that there weren't laws which directly negatively affected women. But a persecuted minority, which is what radical leftist try to make women of the era out to be, is an incorrect notion.

    More I watch of Jordan Peterson more I am bemused why he is sometimes called controversial. Nearly everything he says is just common sense.

    • @chrissparrowhawk
      @chrissparrowhawk 5 лет назад +94

      You're right, it is common sense, except for those who are hard of thinking. Look at some of the comments and you'll see that this is the case. There are none so closed than those who maintain one stance throughout their lives. Are they happy this way? Yes but they will never realise their real potential and it is this that also makes them cowards to some degree. Minds which are still do no favours to the head they inhabit.

      This is why the Left have shot themselves in the foot. As usual they try to trash the reputation of anyone they think doesn't agree with their philosophy. The more people see that Jordan is not what the Left have tried to portray him, the more the Left look stupid and lacking in credibility.

    • @cbekaroglu
      @cbekaroglu 5 лет назад +50

      Because in this era of insanity, everything common sense is controversial, this is how the SATAN works. You say there are TWO GENDERS, this is controversial. You say, men are stronger and taller than women, this is controversial. You say men earn more because they more often take the riskier, more boring, less flexible, dirtier, less social, more technical, longer hour jobs (all of which are scientifically proven), and this is controversial. You say, gays and lesbians have a life expectancy far lower than straight people and this is controversial. You see, everything common sense and scientific are controversial to these people!

    • @martynhunter3542

      That's right Robert Bolder. Common sense has not been heard enough for quite some time. That's why it sounds so astonishing. It is exactly what I thought when hearing Jordan. It's common sense. But the Marxists have taken control of speech & thought by their actions. They invented Political Correctness to control speech. We are now pushing back & Jordan is the start.

    • @sweetcrosby
      @sweetcrosby 5 лет назад +5

      Ah but the fact that people have different common senses it where the confrontation comes from. But most people haven't thought about what should be common sense as much as jordan has to begin with.

      No, it's because you don't listen to any other viewpoint. It's because you're militant and aggressive and lack basic manners and courtesies. It's because you respect only ideology and not people. You don't even have the brains to stay on topic with this thread, which is about asking questions and listening to people, NOT about the ideas being debated.
      The left's idea of debate is smashing people over the head with bike locks and shutting down any speakers you dont agree with using violence. The greatest centers of circle-jerk currently on the planet are the universities which are soley in the grip of far-left politics and which shit out far-left drones by the bucket load every year.
      And the lies you tell, the divisive identity politics, the re-writing of history to con the following generations into your narrative, the ideology itself which has led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people over the last 100 years and yet you ignore, you are the enemy of the free world and of the future progress of mankind. The sooner we are shut of you and your ilk, the better.

      Oners82 It's not like Peterson's ideas weren't explored in this interview.
      Antagonism has no place in an interview. Why would you even want an on-the-spot opinion? It has no genuine thought behind it.
      I know why you'd want it: you'd want it in the hope they fuck up and say something which can be misconstrued as offensive or inappropriate if you cut it right.
      (When I say you, I don't mean you, Oners, I mean the hypothetical person who would seek Newmanist antagonism in interviews)

      It was when JP still made sense, one of the last instances of him doing so. How he has changed. Once articulate, cogent and a proponent of common sense, he is different individual these days. Watching the video above there is no hint of the polemicist and apologist for the right wing fundamentalists from whom he now draws his income. His recent emotional outbursts against everything he perceives as an ideological threat to conservatism, fundamentalism even, are a far cry from the JP we see above. I am not sure what happened, but he is no longer working in academia and seems to draw an income from his on line presence and his public lectures. @@windywindmill98 Following him lately, or at least keeping up with news about him, I now wonder whether it is accurate to say that he has 'fallen' at all. I was inclined to be more defensive of him previously as I thought many of his critics were putting words in his mouth and accusing him of attitudes and sentiments he simply did not demonstrate. It seemed to me people were to ready to make assumptions about him based on preconceptions only, and not based on anything he had actually said - yet. The incompetents and prejudice of some of his early critics gave him more credibility than he deserved though. He wrote a self help book, which genuinely seemed to strike a cord with many people. However as laudable as that may be, even in that instance he wasn't exactly unique or especially insightful in his advice - not to the extent that justified him becoming the guru figure he seemed to become. He never had the gravitas to match his aspirations and intellectual pretensions, however, and while its possible the intention he received turned his pretensions into actual delusions. What is extraordinary though is his anger and lack of ability to engage in any rational discussion. He is clearly far from the philosopher he seems to believe himself to be, but he seems to also think he is a wit of Wildean proportions yet his retorts to his critics seem to be increasingly schoolyard in character. There are those who see his contortions of logic and abuse of a thesaurus as impressive, but more because of the sentiments he expresses rather than the strength of his arguments, but you get the sense that those people believe anyone who has read a book is an intellectual. Is he an actual idiot, or is he severely unwell? Dont know. He is not a sage, philosopher or a reliable authority on anything anymore - not even on the field of psychology - so divorced from reality has he become.

If they just took the time to listen, really listen, they'd realize that he's entirely sensible, very empathetic, intelligent and well spoken individual.

You have also commented elsewhere berating him, which is your prerogative.... however all of your comments are personal attacks and do not seek to question or pull apart his arguments. You therefore do not seem to be adding anything to the conversation other than trying to figure out for yourself why people “rate him”. Even in this comment you have totally mischaracterised what the person is saying by boiling it down to then overrating him. Please do say something useful and make the debate interesting. If I were the state of Israel or one of the major Jewish organizations in the United States, for instance, I would be tempted to sue people who do this for insulting the memory of the Jews murdered by the Nazis. Come to think of it, the Romani, the Poles, and many other ethnic groups would also have good reason to be outraged.

    As a Canadian, I’m happy that his voice is being heard and he is becoming more and more popular. He is an excellent counter argument to the leftist (approaching totalitarian)Trudeau Liberals....and also the extreme right.

      You're right, there's nothing radical about him. He's the same boring reactionary religious fundamentalist we've been hearing for decades. I was agreeing with you that he's not radical. He's about as reactionary as they come. I grew up in a very traditional conservative Pentecostal church where women and men were segregated, women covered their heads with kerchiefs, wore dresses past their knees and also weren't allowed to hold any position of power in the church. His views about women are identical to my old pastors and he even uses the same justifications for them. What's radical about that? Nothing.

    • @antiprogpragmatist859
      @antiprogpragmatist859 6 лет назад +17

      Pierre-Joseph Proudhon ....have you even heard Peterson speak?...and I’m not talking about an edited interview from VICE. Have you seen the unedited interview with Cathy Newman? You are completely misrepresenting his views on women just like the two interviews I mentioned had done.
      As far as religion is concerned...a fundamentalist is the last thing he is. I’ve heard him refer to himself as a nominal Christian.

    • @OdwallaJuice
      @OdwallaJuice 6 лет назад +8

      Yes, I've listened to a lot of his lectures. I've also read 12 rules and Maps of Meaning. Jordan Peterson's rhetorical style involves saying something that's more or less uncontroversially true while at the same time implying something controversial. For instance, Jordan Peterson will make a claim that there are biological differences between men and women which is obviously true. But he'll say it in the context of a conversation of the underrepresentation of women in government which implies what exactly? So how do you respond to this? Either you fall into the trap of arguing against the obviously true statement or you have to guess at what he is implying. In response to which he can accuse you of misrepresenting him.
      I don't really care what he calls himself, I care about what his positions and politics are. To me, I can't tell the difference between his views and your average Christian fundamentalist.

It's a working system and the networks have no reason to want to change that. The only way out is society finally growing up and embracing the idea of different viewpoints rather than hating upon them or using them to create unnecessary conflict. Completely agree. Every experience you have as an adult male teaches you this. HOWEVER, I circumvent this by dating girls who don't subscribe to this mainstream attitude of "alpha male" hierarchy. That said I don't agree with Peterson that this is normal going forward. It;s normal going backward, but i think our new mission as men is to find a better goal than having the biggest dick and the hottest chick. The same self responsibility onus Peterson talks about is on us, but not to do what I think HE would want us to do.

      The munk thing was a farce, I get the impression JBP or Fry for that matter, were mislead a bit of the content of that dumpster fire. The lefty idiots were just going bCk and forth about how oppressed each of their groups are. A few personal character attacks thrown in to spice it up. They never even bothered addressing PC at all, and just ended up with an example of why PC culture is a shit idea.

    • @TheVvolfgang
      @TheVvolfgang 6 лет назад +2

      I thought the girl did a lot better job than Dyson but I wasn't paying full attention so I'm not quite sure. Dyson just talked so much, the whole time it seemed like, to say one thing, "I am (a part of) a group that has been oppressed." I put the "(a part of)" because he doesn't really see himself as being a member of a group, he sees himself as that group, period, and every other group that he is a part of. And then once asked to explain his point (not even prove it, just explain what he meant more concisely) he just said, "you can't possibly understand what it's like to be seen as a group, not an individual, because you're white and white is never seen as just a group." The issues that they're (the left) chasing are the exact issues they're creating, this is the issue with talking about this whole "debate," they are basically just creating an uncatchable, ununderstandable fight that they're trying to "win" and you have to accomadate them and their opinions even though they don't have to show actual data/proof.
      One thing that I've recently thought of was that instead of political differences, at least today in America, being linear i.e. left, right, etc. its more like a horseshoe. the extremes are closer to the extreme opposite than the middle. Ex. Identity politics is the center of both the extreme left and extreme right, most of their points are the exact same but for different people basically. This is only a new thought I've been experimenting with though so it's probably a whole lot worse than it seems in my head.

      Angus McAngus sorry for the late reply, it’s not my responsibility for you to be aware of the string pullers I’m afraid, and there’s quite a few of those to detail. To get you started, look at the Rona Fairhead situation at the (now abolished) BBC trust, former HSBC (aka the worlds most corrupt bank) exec, friend of George Osborne & personal choice for the role of David Cameron. BBC reporting has been further and further to the right since, as numerous studies have shown. Can’t paste links, but there are several academic studies which you can easily find on google and the IEA produced one back in 2017, although I struggle to trust the IEA personally.
      As for the ‘MSM’ you mention, the ownership of print and TV media is divided largely between Murdoch, Rothemere and the Barclay brothers, all hyper conservative right wing agenda pushing media barons, your statement is a non starter and comes with zero evidence.
      Just to be clear, rather than whinging like you are, it is much better to understand where the money comes from and arm yourself with the knowledge of bias, which will exist in every media outlet, whether private or public. I hope that makes sense! Cheers.

      Newman knew what the end of the interview was going to look like before it started. She had a list of questions and no intention of asking a follow up one after Peterson replied. The day she dies there will be 'so what you're saying is' jokes doing the rounds.

    One of a precious few interviews with both participants being excellent. If we'll have much more of such things there will be a great hope for humanity.
    Really serious dialog, research, analysis and thinking needed on the relations and compatibility in the same physical space of muslim and judeo-christian values.
    If answer is positive - great, let's live together in prosperity and peace. If answer is negative - let's live separately in prosperity and PEACE.

    • @samhurton9308
      @samhurton9308 6 лет назад

      Andreas, I see your point. Let's think about it - I guess this somehow is related to a concept of "nation building" when west feels "obliged" to intervene in foreign places in order to "solve" other people's misery. It's on one side, but looks like you mean something of a different nature - intervention in order to defend ourselves from potential (which can become very real) danger coming from other places, which will really destroy the whole concept of living separately but in Peace.
      So here we are - it all depends and devil is in details.
      IF people can live separately in countries with completely different political, ethical and religious environments AND not threaten each other than it may be a valid option. Supporters of "nation building" will not appreciate this and always demand our interventions in the places where humans are suffering.
      With regards to your specific comment if something is inherently evil than this must and inevitably will present danger to us and real long term peace does look like unrealistic. I don't think islam as a religion is though, but have to admit that I know next to nothing about it..... What is clear beyond any doubt that radical islam and radical islamic terrorism definitely belong there.

      Dude i kind of see your point but nooo matter what especially with the internet and social media the world is going to become more interconnected and therefore more interdependent. If you have been born into a place where you're on either end of the spectrum, either you can't trust or are brainwashed by the people you literally depend on to survive purely based upon them placing their subjective ideas in the realm of objective facts then no progression can be made internally within those countries let alone internationally. Plus this seems to state that the only difference between nations is belief. If we separated countries based on values how do they each get the resources they require? Pretty sure we've had that exact situation multiple times through history and the only answer almost every nation provides is war.

    • @TheToledoTrumpton
      @TheToledoTrumpton 6 лет назад

      Well, I think if we discover, based on intellectual reasons, that living together peacefully is not possible, then the smart thing to do is live apart in peace. I don't see why the idea that the societies are incompatible is so inconceivable, certainly there is a lot of evidence to support it. Bad things seem to happen whenever we have come into close proximity with each other.

    So far, the best interview Peterson has had in the UK. Congratulations Maajid - good journalism and great to see someone put a heavy discussion of ideas into the public domain so readily. It's great to see a renaissance of intellectual discourse in the world at the moment. This kind of platform really shows up the mainstream media as being wooly and naive.

      But like what angle? If the mic needs to be in front of the person, and (assuming the viewer wants to see the persons face) the camera needs to be in front of them too unless they zoom right in you will see the mic, the problem is that maajid is more interested in getting his face on the camera than put his voice on the mic so we can hardly hear him while Peterson is loud .

    Now here’s an interviewer who takes his profession seriously. He asks questions to learn more about his guest and, in the process, takes along his audience with the same goal in mind. And that goal is to become more knowledgeable about a person or topic, maybe even spur you on to begin your own journey of enlightenment.
    Too many so called interviewers are entertainers first. Their goal is not to gain wisdom and insight but to either be buddies with their ideologue soulmates or to attempt to skewer and belittle those with whom they disagree.
    Great job Mr. Nawaz.
