I have 7 crawlers with this 1080 esc. I have NEVER had to calibrate my transmitters. They ALL worked just fine right out of the box.
That's great to hear. I have quite few myself, and I had to calibrate on one of mine. For the price, best one to get IMHO.
Thanks
Thank you so very much for the comment! Greatly appreciate it.
Very good tutorial! Mine would work for setting neutral position but wouldn't do anything after that. I reversed the order neutral, reverse, forward as mentioned in the comments and it worked perfectly.
Glad it helped!
Thank you for your video, but had to set break after setting neutral, instead of throttle.
Yes, it depends on the transmitter radio. On most, 2nd step will be to pull the trigger, but on few transmitter, you have to reverse the steps by push away for full brake. Glad to hear that you got it setup.
Wired one of these to my drift RC and man did u save me 😭🤙
Glad to be of help!
Thank you verry much... it was clear and easy to follow. 🇨🇦
Great to hear!
Hobbywing 1080 is a great ESC and cheap ...When I go brushless I use the Castle Micro Mamba X with Holmes Hobbies 2700 stubby ..but in my comp. rigs With brushed motors Holmes Hobbies BRXL is the best by far 2 to 6s capable....
I have Micro X with 2000kv Yellowjacket waiting to go into my LCG build :)
The drag brake on my 1080 was working perfectly the first 3 times I ran the trx4 sport crawler with a GT5 transmitter. I made no changes, but the next time I ran it … no drag brake! I’ve gone over everything a number of times re-calibrating and confirming the settings on the ESC. Still no drag break.
Should I just get a new ESC?
I would check the motor first. ESC is the brain and motor is what actually applies physically the drag brake. If you have access to a different motor, see if the drag brake works on it before looking into a new esc.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
youe explanation is very easy to learn, thanks you somuch for the tutorial. 1 sub from me
Thank you very much for the Sub! Greatly appreciate it.
Just what I needed 👍
Glad to hear!
thanks God bless you friend
Thank you too!
Thanks man i just did it.
Glad I could help

Thanks for the visit
I took your advice and got a gatekeeper, after minor glitchelike my shop having to change out the radio and reciever, (they put in a spectrum slr300), I bought the 1080esc per yours and other recomedations.
It will do nothing after setting the neutral position on the radio. It will go forward and reverse at this point but I have no steering and my reverse is much faster than my forward speed. Is it a bad esc, reciever, radio, or owner error. It now sits motionless on my bench. Help!! By the way love the site. Thank you
If the shop changed out the radio and receiver, they should be looking into this and setting it up correctly. It sounds like you never completed the throttle calibration. On certain transmitter radio you will need to reverse the order to complete the throttle calibration.. 1st set the neutral, then instead of pulling the trigger (forward) which is the normal process, push the trigger away (braking), then pull the trigger for the final step. That being said, I am not sure why you have no steering. Steering has nothing to do with throttle calibration. Make sure that steering wire is plugged into Ch1 and that it's plugged in correctly. Another reason why the shop should have set this up correctly. As for speed, if your reverse is much faster than the forward speed, then you will need to swap the motor wires...that should help with speed. You can also change it on the remote, but on brushed setup, swapping the motor wire is the quick way to test.
@@BigSungHobbies thank you, I now have a gatekeeper drag car. The throttle seems ok now, but it still won't steer, guess I'll try putting in a new servo see if that works. I'll let you know. This thing has been a problem child since I got it. First day out of the box would do nothing. Took it back to the shop and he put a spectrum slr300 reciever in it and it worker, all 4shocks had leaked in the box, I think that associated quality control is severely lacking. Love it when it works, guess I should have left well enough alone, but all i wanted was to make crawl better, hell even got the ecto body ready to go on it.
If you haven't joined the Ecto/Gatekeeper Element FB page, you should consider doing so. It's a great community. You can post pics and videos, and that should help with troubleshooting. I have purchased four Element trucks so far and I have not run into any quality issues yet. But it sounds like you did. I am really surprised that the shop changed out the radio and receiver instead of isolating the issue, such as try rebinding the receiver, etc... and on top of that you still don't have fully functioning truck. By the way, I am curious why you didn't just choose pick up an Ecto RTR and went with Gatekeeper RTR and pick up an Ecto body. Between the two, I would always recommend Ecto over Gatekeeper as I am not a big fan of heavy cage.
@@BigSungHobbies got the gatekeeper for 285$
Unfortunately I dont do social media. But it looks like I'm gonna have my kids set.me up so I can figure out when/where ya'll play cuz its definitely something I want to do in my old age. Most of yours and barc videos just show 1/10s, are 24s welcome also?
Also finally got that damn thing to go forward and reverse but still no steering going down to the shop and see what's wrong, he ck it out at N/C. Hes think it's the servo. If so do you have any recommendations, keeping the price affordable. SSDI dosent leave much on the bone
Massive thumbs up! Does it need to be calibrated with transmitter on a rtr model?
The answer is a little ambiguous. One of my rigs, it didn't need it. On another rig, it did. So not sure, but I would do it nonetheless just to ensure you are starting from scratch. One thing, on some transmitter 2nd and 3rd step is reversed meaning that full forward and full reverse are switched. Normal is Neutral -> Forward (pull the trigger) -> Reverse (push the trigger).
@@BigSungHobbies brilliant. Thsnks and keep up the great work!
Thanks!
@@BigSungHobbies hi. Just fitted 1080 today.
Is there a setting for a softer start? Thanks😊
Awesome. I have a video on my crawler settings. It's been working well for me so far. So check it out.
Hi,
I just wanna know if this vid is the fix I need. I was running my RC then it suddenly stopped responding. At first I thought the battery in the car was low. I later noticed that even with a new batt, the car reacts as if the transmitter is turned off, it just keeps going backwards and is no longer responding to any command from the transmitter. Hoping for assistance on this matter, thanks and more power!
It can be few things, but it sounds like ESC might need to be recalibrated. Try that first, at least that's what I would do. Also make sure that the receiver is working properly. At some point ESC does go bad too, so that might be something you want to check for as well. One thing, when you are calibrating, try NEUTRAL > FORWARD (pull) -- if nothing happens here, then you have to go the reverse route and use > BACKWARD (push). Good luck.
Can it be calibrated with the factory TQ control?
Yes, it should.
Can i bind my stock transmitter and receiver to the 1080?
Binding is used between transmitter and receiver. ESC just needs to be plugged into ch2 of the receiver to be used. Typically you should calibrate the ESC when it is connected to a new transmitter/radio. And this process will apply to HW1080 as well.
I have a question , i have a new transmitter , i need to calibrate the new transmitter ?
I don't have a definite answer. Sometimes it's worked without calibrating, and sometimes it hasn't. I am not sure why that happens. But normally I calibrate it just to be on the safe side.
@@BigSungHobbies okay thanks .
It is normal when im ON the esc takes 1.5sec or 2sec before beeping the esc?
thanks ;)
You are welcome!
I did with your video said and it does not work for me any help would be appreciated
For second step instead of pulling the throttle, try pushing it away and for third step try pulling the throttle. Some transmitters have it reverse. Good luck.
My brand new 1080 g2 esc doesn’t beep when trying to calibrate to my stock trx4 receiver. Can’t find anything online. When I try to calibrate the neutral, throttle and reverse nothing happens 3 seconds after. An anyone help plz
I have not used a G2 version, but on G1 version, sometimes you have to calibrate the opposite way in order to work. Try neutral > reverse > throttle and see if that works. If it does not, then I am not sure what is causing it. Might reach out to Hobbywing customer service. Good luck.
Ive looked everywhere trying to find how to calibrate this f#ing esc and you my friend have got me sorted. Thank you so much. It worked 1st time by pushing the throttle forward, ie, in the reverse position and then after, in the forward position. Thank you 👍🏼@@BigSungHobbies
@@bb4l881 Glad to hear that the video helped out!
how to fix when it blinking red??
Try the calibration, and if still having issues, reach out to Hobbywing customer service.
My esc doesnt blink and the motor doesnt make any sound after the third step
Try to recalibrate it and see if that works. I would reach out to Hobbywing customer service if the issue persists.
Mine does not even beep in neutral. Any ideas?
Sorry I am not sure. Maybe try reaching out to customer service.
where did you get that camera mount
I am still looking for the right one, but I am using UBeesize Flexible tripod.
Cool and useful 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Hello, if the LED on the 1080 flashes as normal but there are no audible beeps, is that the motor at fault? I took my Element for walk today and after about 5 minutes the throttle cut out. Battery fine, wires all connected. Never had this issue before. Steering fine, too. I noticed the LED flashing as normal when use the throttle and on power up but no throttle and no beeps. Thanks!
I would start by trying to calibrate it one more time, and see if that fixes it.
what does this do exactly
If you swap your ESC, it needs to be calibrated to your transmitter/radio, otherwise the ESC does not sometimes recognize the throttle control from transmitter properly. This shows you how to do that for Hobbywing 1080 ESC.
@@BigSungHobbies i don't remember doing this and mine worked ??
works?
yeah man , I connected it and it worked straight away ??? is that weird?? I got the same transmitter and esc
That's good. the connection between RC and transmitter is actually on the receiver. What ESC does is control the throttle response (namely neutral, forward and reverse). If that is not working properly it will flash on HW1080, that's when you use this. In my case, it worked for a while, but I got a flashing, so I had to recalibrate it, and this will show you how to do it. Hope that clarifies.
I’ve done this like 500 times it won’t do anything I just got this thing in the mail and already regret it so much 🙄
Check to make sure that ESC is plugged into Ch2 on receiver, and power it up. Also have you tried both ways to connect? Normally it's Neutral, then pull, then push, but depending on the receiver, you need to do it differently. Neutral, then push, then pull. It's very difficult to diagnose without really seeing what is happening.
@@BigSungHobbies it only gets to the point of beeping fast and then as soon as I touch g he set button no matter what it just kicks it right back out of the calibration mode
Maybe contact warranty/tech support at Hobbywing. It’s a bit beyond my technical knowledge.
I agree.
@@BigSungHobbies dont waste your time with hobbywing tech support as I'm still sitting here with a inoperable piece of s#it
Didn't work
Sorry to hear that it didn't work, but more details as to where it didn't work and your setup will help isolate the issue.
It’s not working
I am not sure what and where it is not working. Did you try, "PLEASE NOTE: On some transmitters, you will have to REVERSE the order (NEUTRAL - REVERSE - FORWARD) in order to work."? A bit more detail might help isolate the issue, and there is always customer service that you can call as well.
