Looks like a great new option. I really like the bec being 8.4v capable. My 1080 and fusion pro have worked great for me, I imagine the g2 will be just as durable. Really hope Hobbywing releases a esc for micro crawlers. There needs to be more good reliable options for the 18/24 scales.
1080s are truly fantastic. I use them in my tamiya on road cars and in my offroad buggy. Great in all roles. The programming lets you dial them in to nearly any brushed vehicle's needs. They are my goto esc since your initial positive review of them. In a sea of garbage product quality these days, it's nice to see and celebrate an affordable, quality item. Thanks. Cheers.
The 1080 gets better, if that's possible! I know we talk about this esc in our crawlers but it's a great esc for just about any brushed application, which is why the fan is such a welcome addition. 👍
I built a real driving mode my own years ago. Once you are used to it its pretty cool to drive. If you can pair it with break and reverse lights you get a very realistic behaviour on those lights.
Oh man, pair with Reverse lights... now you're talking. This doesn't make sense in all vehicles but in some of my scale vehicles... heck ya. Adds to the realism.

Most definitely. I've been trail crawling for miles this week and I'll take any aid I can get. That adjustable drag brake will be cool for varying terrain.
Great point. If you have an 8.4v capable servo, it's like a key upgrade. I'll test 8.4v with all my receivers and see if it's fine. I know all Radiolink and Flysky receivers are ok with it.
I bought 2 of the 7 channel Radiolink controlers. Designing a 2ft RC Recreation of my brothers boat. And I am designing a 1/10th scale road/race car design in the pipeline. I am doing my research on parts, now. I wonder if this ESC is waterproof? I might use the HobbyWing Fusion Pro motor combo in the boat. And the Zoskay 35kg pro servo for the steering. I know this is going to be slightly over the top for a boat. I am going to add a Sound kit for horn and Dessel sounds and a motor set up to run the Radar Dish. Plus adding running lights plus maybe a LED for main deck cabin lighting. It would be nice for a short video on if this motor combo works with the RadioLink controller and how to install the motor to the transmitter. And configuring the radio?
I think I really wanna try this and a 5 slot motor... on 3S... what can you say about some of the motors out right now, like 12t 5 slot, or the 550 can sized ones even? On my radar are the Tekin and Reedy motors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Great insight Francess ,I couldnt agree more with everything you said, what an amazing inexpensive upgrade to the best brushed esc on the market !! the Real driving mode is Hillarious I can see a few crawlers launching into a river off a cliff etc before years end if they try that mode but what a cool feature HA HA 🤣 Happy New Year
West coast rain is insane. We are in halftime of an epic battle and we're getting hammered. Hillsides, coastal and river flood zones are in grave danger. Luckily i'm in suburbia.
I love HW products and the 1080 was already rock solid but unless they drop the price to $30 at a minimum I won’t even consider this. The Fusion SE is only $70 and the ISDT ESC70 for $25 dollars runs as good or better than the 1080 in my opinion for brushed motors.
Very useful information, i am a beginner in rc world, and i've a question related to brushed esc, battery and brushed motor. whether the number of cells in the battery can cause a short circuit on the esc ? Previously I used HW 1080 with a 5 slot 20T bruahed motor, the battery I used was 3S 5200 mah, at first it went well, but then the RC could not be moved, when I observed it, I found the esc was hot, end when i use 60A esc, the esc was lit and burn, can I get an explanation from a any of you here regarding what I experienced. what caused it and how to prevent it from happening again in the future. thank you so much for helping.
What brand receiver would you recommend for this one if using the drag brake and real drive? I’m planning on getting a 4ws Capra and swapping to a flysky. I’d like my rear steer on a knob.
I got the older version of the 1080 and it won’t calibrate reverse . Tried the reverse polarity . Set the radio to the settings it recommends . No luck. I’m not impressed with the product. The radio is a flysky gt3c.
