Ring keeps missing the point with their peephole cam. Many of us (like myself) own a condo unit and we are not allowed to do anything that changes the exterior of the door which is why we can't wire in traditional door bells. Well since the peephole still has the exterior component it is banned as well. If Ring or anyone could just make one that looks identical to a standard peephole from the outside, this would get past condo boards enough that we could use them.
Thank you for pointing this out, I have this problem that the strata could ban it if they see it. But also in Australia I have the additional problem that I cannot add non-compliant things to the apartment door; the apartment door is fire resistance rated, so I am not meant to change out the peephole either so I want a peephole camera that sits over the internal peephole.
Last year My friend was stricken with symptoms of a heart attack. She used her Google assistant to call 911, she also opened her front door lock and turned outdoor lights on- it really helped her as she lived alone. She locked her home up as Ems left with her in tow!
As much as I like Flic, the price of their products is a little insane. As a budget friendly option I picked up the Broadlink smart button + hub for about $25 USD. The button panel has 4 buttons to control 4 scenes. I did hear that Amazon was getting support to link smart buttons directly to their ecosystem, but no word on that since then.
I'm still not sold on the Ring attack drone. I can see the idea behind it, but I still feel, for me, I'd like to switch between cameras in zones within the home quickly and not wait for the flying camera. Also, if an intruder smashes the drone with some blunt implement they may be carrying, if you don't have other cameras, your not going to be able to follow them around.... Just my thoughts. I can see how it may appeal to some.
Oh that Ring peephole camera is something i have been wanting for some time. To have a camera there. Just hope it doesn't make any changes on the outside part off the door so it looks like normal door. Would be perfect here i live. As i cant get a smart door bell.

Hi Brian. I’ve been trying to find a smart outdoor wall light for my house. I’m looking for something with the same functionality as the Phillips Impress. The problem with the impress is it’s low voltage and I’m looking for something I can direct wire…but works with the hue system…ideally. Is there anything you can recommend?
It would. However I worry that it won’t look as good plus I light seeing the light. The appear is more indirect. I did find a RUclipsr from Europe and she has the impress direct wired. She sent me 2 European Phillips links for 2 different impress lights….sadly not in English but one is direct wire and the other the same as the one on the Phillips site…..but, even if I could order from the site I’m not sure it would work in North America…..I don’t know much about electricity but I think have different electrical structures

I guess it came down to their belief in that being worth it to add. It's maybe more of an attractive hub for new folks instead of a replacement for existing users.
"Last for years" unless they go out of business then you have a fancy brick. And then there are those companies that hook you with FREE and then later on make it subscription based (WINK).
For as much as I am interested in the Flic Twist, I think it was over a year ago that the first videos started to come out about that product. I think it is crazy that a company got over 1 year if free press on a product that is still listed on their website as a pre-order for qtr 1 2023. Brian I agree cool product, just tired of hearing about a "not launched" product.
Flic, WAS a good idea, but suddenly they stopped adding services, this puts them at a disadvantage. For example somfy tahoma and switchbot two huge brands with api's and matter protocol are after 3 years still not added as a service. Flic stopped arround 15 services in europe. Now nothing new is beeing added.
@@AutomateYourLife For matter probably yes, but not adding any new services for the last 12 months is not a good sign for customers who think they can integrate flic with everything (how they sold it), but suddenly they stopped adding services
Govee is great on the paper but the quality is dreadful unless you buy M1 which is nearly the same price as Hue gradient and even then its not that good.
I think Govee's done some meaningful work on quality in the last year. Maybe check it again, and you're right the M1 is closer on price. That's...the cost!
@@AutomateYourLife i jumped on the wagon a couple of months later. Thats the personal experience I’m talking about. Its just inconsistency of colour and the blending that kills it for me. And lack of native support for ecosystems. Also, I was shocked that M1 does not support Razer (at least at that time).

Automation engineer here, To be completely honest i'm kinda sad about all the junk that's created to "make our life easier" Most of your list are objects you just don't need to try to make a quick buck based on the "novelty" and "tech" aspect
By no means do I think Ring has amazing cameras, but... Resolution is only a contributor to quality. If you speak to the engineers who create these products, the sensor is more important when compared to the resolution. Google Nest cameras and the doorbell are great examples of that. Great sensor, low resolution, still the best footage. Resolution can help if you need digital zoom to tell who a subject is though, for sure. So it all depends how far out your subject will be.
Nice stuff! Not loving the Wyze stuff though. Should be re named to CRYZE since that is what you'll do once you buy one of their products and see how slow they are , even if it is 3 feet from a wifi point it takes F O R E VE R to come up ( in smart home time), and if you want to do anything special BOOM there is that paywall. I tried them a couple years ago and (IMO) it was a awful product, decided to give them a try again and I have the OG and OG telephoto- Surprise- They still suck. to bad. I mean WTH Wyze is getting your products to work with / support RTSP really that big a deal in 2023? Just to be clear, I don't care for WYZZE :) I am sure there are folks who love them, I just happen not to be in that camp. Rant done. Thanks.
It's not for everyone for sure. But honestly, these OG ones come up faster. They've changed that load stream. For smart displays though...still not good. Not sure when that will get better!
@@AutomateYourLife I have both the OG and Telephoto, since I have not owned any WYZE stuff for a couple years you would know better than me but mine are not quick by any measure. It takes 10 seconds min for any stream to come up. It's not my network since I have 10 other cameras and all are instant. I get it though, there is a place for these for some people, I just ain't one of those people. LOL 😂
@@AutomateYourLife K. I'm all about lowering my WYZE hate, what would you suggest . I know the network is fine, upload/download is around 600. I have changed the quality (HD, SD, etc.) to the lowest setting and it takes longer than your 2/3 seconds, my 10 second answer may have been a tad longer than it really is but no way is it 2 or 3. I have not adjusted or changed anything else. Where would you say the issue might be? Understanding that is a loaded question with a bunch of possibilities...
@@Joseph-ko2kl yeah man all good. So you know what I'd do. I'd take it to a friend's house with less gear on their wifi. Or just anyone using a different ISP or different wifi system then you. That might help you start to diagnose what's going on. I know you said the network is fine, but certain routers can be overloaded or a little slower in getting to all the devices. Heavy streaming devices can also be pulling the "attention" of your router so then it can't get to your request for connection. The other thing you could try is to take just about everything off your wifi, reset the router(s) and then see! Those would be my steps...then talk to me on another vid and let's see sir!
Skylight from Nanoleaf is ugly in my opinion and will probably be very pricey. I would rather shop for Yeelight. If you want to imitate skylight they have patented technology capable of imitating blue sky effect (Rayleigh scattering). Unfortunately it is not officially sold in North America, but should be working just fine, as many other products from Yeelight.
We had one of those...couldn't get it wired in without doing too much work actually. I wanted to show that one. But I sure do like the Skylight so far.
@@AutomateYourLife , are you talking about skylights from Yeelight? Those are not retrofit options. They are supposed to be installed in a suspended ceiling or drywall with enough clearance, so you need high ceiling to start with. That said, it could be a great option for transforming storage room into a home office, corridors, bathrooms could also benefit from it. At the same time Yeelight offers many thin ceiling lights with adjustable color temperature dimming and colorful ambient lighting. Most of them are easy to install.
Ring peepholes need to be on the inside of the door, not the exterior. My condo building will not allow me to place anything/alter the appearance of my door at all.
Oh I don't know that that's gonna matter. It's not processing large amounts of data. There's certainly a reliability tradeoff but the way Samsung's building multi hub homes now, I'm not sure it's a terrible plan
So pretty much nothing new in 2023 just the same old flashing coloured lights that no one wants *yawn*. It's time I started a smart home company of products that people actually want....
Oh no! Not the dystopian attack helicopter ... I think it's only really of any use to someone who lives in a very open-plan environment, as anyone with any sense will ensure that all internal doors are kept closed to help slow down the spread of a fire ...

@@AutomateYourLife wauw amazing, they want stuff back. Thanks for the good videos, you put, up. I would like to see a video, about the best or good wifi or other setups to support all the gadgets. 👍👍
Gotcha!
Great video ! I don’t need any of this crap. Lol
LOL
Wyze is the best
😁😁
First Alert already has out a great Smoke & CO detector that teams up with SmartThings, have been using it for years, works great!
Yeah!? I can't remember why I didn't end up with one.... Might be a good comparison
How can anyone event think about using ring? You have NO control who they give acces to. what happend to privacy concerns?
Oh you should check out a few companies. Many companies in the US that provide recording devices have clauses about giving access to recordings to police services contained within their privacy policy. It's just that Ring cameras are plentiful and it happens lots
I’m waiting for that moment when Nest release an update to the Nest thermostat to MATTER to work with Apple HomeKit…. ???.
So...sadly, Google has said they won't be. 🤷
@@AutomateYourLife wow, I can’t believe it, I’m been waiting for an update to this product to work with Apple HomeKit, I really don’t want to buy a bridge just to turn on and off the thermostat, I will following your channel, hopefully one day at least there is a way to use Siri short cut to activate the thermostat….. thanks for the information really appreciate.
Why do you never mention Home Assistant?
I do all the time. Watch our last video...and 2 before that. It's there, ya just gotta watch for it
@@AutomateYourLife I feel like you should mention it as an option whenever you talk about other hubs, especially SmartThings. and include HA when you talk about device compatability. I'm speaking as a former SmartThings user who tried HA and never looked back. Also, looking forward to your video on Lewis' presence sensor. All the best.
I'm not hearing Wink hub being mentioned. I guess they are yesterday's news?
Yeah, sorry...it's not been a good run from my perspective.
Why wouldn't Samsung include Zwave radio in the Pad?
I hear ya Brian! I think the schedules of everything have followed with Matter slowing down. I'm betting that's the #1 reason!
I think they're after the Matter certification here to solve lots of that, but let's hope they continue!
@@AutomateYourLife For matter probably yes, but not adding any new services for the last 12 months is not a good sign for customers who think they can integrate flic with everything (how they sold it), but suddenly they stopped adding services
The Govee sync box is not good enough, HDMI 2.0 instead of 2.1 is inexcusable for what it is in 2023
What are we going to get with 2.1 with that kind of a device though?
@@AutomateYourLife Xbox series x is 4k 120hz
@@saglike93 ehhhh, losing 60 Hz on an Xbox is not a big deal to me!
Imagine hiding that flying camera inside a flower pot
And then screaming through the 2 way radio
Flying Ring cam can’t do two floors. Wait for version 2
Ring share’s your camera with the authorities without a warrant just so you all know.
2023: Lets send this flying camara in a time machine back to years 1940 and 100 BC.
1940: Alice you are not going to believe this !!!! A UFO from hell just flew in through our window. Get the police !!!
100 BC: The Gods of Zeus entered our cave. Lets pray to it and send smoke signals to the others of its arrival.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Omfg i watched the vid in my dark room and beacause your face was so bright i saw it in the corner of my room when i looked away from my monitor, heart attack for a sec xD
LOL...that's a scary sight in regular light!
Im gonna go ahead and say that Philips needs to bring their prices down significantly to remain relevant in this market. They’ve become a commodity.
1st product is outright scary. We know that Ring gave away recording and details from their current line of products. That is even more invasive.
Automation engineer here,
To be completely honest i'm kinda sad about all the junk that's created to "make our life easier"
Most of your list are objects you just don't need to try to make a quick buck based on the "novelty" and "tech" aspect
More folks like yourself need to get involved in this industry to show them what people can really use. From one Eng to another.
Ring can’t even come out with a 2k camera at least🤦🏽♂️
LOL 😂
Something is off if my stream comes up in 2-3 seconds consistently. Dig deeper my friend!
Soon, I'll be controlling all my matter smart devices from all my smart displays in my house 🏡
Heck ya!
Matter did not solve anything more hubs. Two steps forward now back to where we started.
So far, Matter hasn't been great. Pretty much exactly what I said here: ruclips.net/video/SrZTOghqrqU/видео.html
You're not the first to say that! Stupid condo boards eh
The best smart idea, get a book and go exercise instead of putting all this in your house
Or go fly a kite? 🤣🤣
I would be careful buying any Ring products. They usually force paid subscriptions for each device and can add up very quickly.
There's definitely a sub component
Seems like a lot of government information taking in your house
Smart home products need to be more practable and less trendy.
It depends what sort of products you look at!
Yo want LoRa??????????????? Yolink baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😃
You don't cover it.... But the NEW Samsung Smart Station.... Is WiFi only...
NO ethernet port... and is now considered a POS!!!!
Oh I don't know that that's gonna matter. It's not processing large amounts of data. There's certainly a reliability tradeoff but the way Samsung's building multi hub homes now, I'm not sure it's a terrible plan
Govee does not have the best effects.
What am I missing!? Who does then?
I enjoy and learn a lot from your videos. BUT PLEASE STOP saying ' quite', 'very' UNIQUE. 'Unique' cannot be quantified. It is an abslute.
I'll try! But...no promises!
So pretty much nothing new in 2023 just the same old flashing coloured lights that no one wants *yawn*. It's time I started a smart home company of products that people actually want....
Seriously! These companies boast “we’re compatible with over 1000 products!!!” And 950 of them are light bulbs…
Get it done!
Ceiling nano leaf is mad ugly.
Oh no! Not the dystopian attack helicopter ... I think it's only really of any use to someone who lives in a very open-plan environment, as anyone with any sense will ensure that all internal doors are kept closed to help slow down the spread of a fire ...
Run awayyyyy!
All this is a giant waste of money for me because I don't care about any of this stuff in my house
most r lightning effect garbage.....time waste.....
