Rob the Hungry Says who? They wouldn't do that. Right now Yugioh is going down the make too much too over powered and this is using the term overpowered correctly in so many ways.

Foxy Striker point is that "can't be targeted or destroyed by card effects" is barely that good anymore. Before spellbooks it really was unstoppable, then came fate which for some reason didn't target but still banished and now half the cards don't target yet can easily remove (monarchs stormforth, trishula, erebus, tiaramisu etc.)

Nice to see someone else run the immortal Obelisk. Obviously there's lots of things that get around it, but the most common would be Honest. But you're right, most of the meta doesn't have a response for something like this. Hell, most of the meta has a hard time with just a regular Obelisk on the field.
***** No, it doesn't. Nothing is being done to Obelisk when using Honest. Your monster is just simply gaining ATK equal to your opponents monster; in this case, Obelisk.

Daneler Hostcrexcum i get destroyed by torrentials. it targets all monsters not Obelisk directly. that's how torrential's technicality works.
But torrential doesn't work if you used Hardened Armed Dragon in Obelisk's summon

The first time i used this setup i lost. I got obelisk on the field and whatever he did i could easily counter. then he had a card that could change the level of all cards on the field. the way it was worded allowed it to target obelisk. My harden Armour dragon was no longer active. He took out obelisk the turn. I still remember that fateful battle to this day.

Any card that makes you return Obelisk to the hand would pretty much trump you. Also Effect Veiler can get rid of the effect of Obelisk not being destroyed by card effects. You'd need some backrow help to keep that Obelisk on after you've succeeded in summoning him by tributing hardened armed dragon.

Exactly I have an entire deck built around the Timelords and its actually really effective.
You could also go for Excalibur then use his effect and crash into obelisk.

My friend made a Ice Barrier/Frog deck... It was actually pretty good. Look up the card "Wetlands" , the deck meets that requirement, stalls, and attacks directly.

If you can attack over Obelisk, it has to be one of the most satisfing things to do. I did it once with Beast Machine King Barbaros Ur + Horn of the phantom beast against a mecha phantom beast obelisk deck. Going plus off obelisk = awesome
put it would prevent the effect, that it can't be targeted by card effects. so with skill drain in play, he can be banished by dimensional prison for example. or simply use compulsory evacuation device.
so easy way to get over ANY Obelisk is Book of eclipse/ Swords of concealing and crossout. did this in a mirror match of ghostricks where he got it out both rounds and did the same thing twice.
There are a lot of non targeting single creature removal. Fissure, Hammer Shot, Volcanic Queen too mention a few. That's why I find this easy to get rid of. That's why you should have hammer shot in your side deck.
I have always loved the immortal obelisk idea with Hardened arm dragon but I kind of like my version of it better, I don't use frogs to bring it out and I use several other powerful cards like White Night Dragon so it doesn't revolve around having Obelisk and they also help bring out that Obelisk or whatever on the first turn with Hardened Arm Dragon's other effect.
Because he tributed Hardened Armed Dragon to Summon it. Its effect is "if you Tribute this card for the Tribute Summon of a Level 7 or higher monster, that monster cannot be destroyed by card effects."
I could actually pretty easily hit over Obelisk with my irl deck even back when this video was uploaded provided I had a bit of luck. I ran a machina fortress deck, and while machina fortress couldn't naturally take out obelisk, I had a lot of cards like solidarity or heavy mech support platform which could easily provide me with an extra 1500+ atk to tie/beat obelisk. If I got stuck top-decking I'd be in trouble though.
Mirror force doesn't target therefore Obelisk should have been destroyed because his ability on states that he can't be targeted by cards.
Hardened armed dragon makes monsters summoned by tributing him immune to eff destruction if they're high enough level.
I love the kuriboh on the graveyard when a card is put there.
I used to run this deck a lot back before e-dragons came out and it was a super strong deck. Now that most of the traps to stop obelisk are gone due to the banlist, it's a much more powerful deck. Btw the extra deck is really useful if they manage to stop your obelisk because you can get gachi and other rank 2's for defensive plays.
Yeah I used to play immortal obelisk as well a long time ago. After Azneyes plays it, everyone will think the people playing immortal obelisk are copying him.
Obelisk's effect is negated by the effect of Plasma. Plasma's effect is continuous, does not target and affects ALL the opponents monsters including obelisk. It when I declare that im going to target Obelisk that he can't be targeted..If Obelisk's effect wasn't negated by Plasma, allowing me to equip him.

this combo also works good with wicked avatar. Since Avatar's atk is always 100+ the highest atk on the field it pretty much can't be destroyed by battle.
I think DevPro's fire king deck can still top that. Use Tiger King's effect to nullify Obelisk's effect, since it doesn't target, then use Fire Fist Bear's effect to destroy Obelisk.
no you can't, on the card it reads- "Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card's Normal Summon cannot be negated. When Normal Summoned, cards and effects cannot be activated. Cannot be targeted by Spells, Traps, or card effects. During the End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Send it to the Graveyard. You can Tribute 2 monsters; destroy all monsters your opponent controls. This card cannot declare an attack the turn this effect is activated."
Do people not realize that super polymerization can work if you use dna surgery for chimeratech overdragon or dna transplant for shining. Or you could use dna surgery and use chimeratech fortress dragon.
Lava Golem, Volcanic Queen, Sky Scourge Norleras and Morphing Jar #2
are some cards that can stop that combo since those cards do not target nor do they destroy.
Unfortunately you can. I've played this deck for quite a while and i know that creature swap and mirror force are basically the only two outs to obelisk. Creature swap and mirror force both don't target, therefore can be used against obelisk.
Im fully aware that Obelisk is divine. Super poly will still work with either dna transplant (for heros) or dna suregry (for machines though better just to go dna surgery and fortress without super poly to overdragon).
Escape device doesnt target though. Only compulsory evacuation device targets. Escape is both people shuffle one of their monsters.
It wouldn't destroy Obelisk, but I do have a deck that could potentially beat it. I use a Mystical Shine Ball OTK. It uses Venus to summon all three Shine Balls, which I can then power up with Photon Booster (MSB = 2000 ATK). Next, I activate DNA Surgery to make them into machines. This allows me to use Limiter Removal (MSB = 4000 ATK). I finish the combo with Delta Attacker to have (at least 2) Shine Balls attack directly and win the game. Alternately, I can use Seal of Orichalcos and Honest instead of DNA Surgery and Limiter Removal (have Venus attack with Honest's effect for the remaining 2000 damage, which could also kill Obelisk).

Blackwing's black sonic has worked in this exact obelisk situation
My Umbral Horrors can negate Hardened Armed Dragon's effect with Number C104: Umbral Horror Masquerade, which is actually quite easy to get out as long as I have a Rank-Up-Magic in my hand.
Speaking about HEROS, Great Tornado can help to get over Obelisk.
Not when hardened armed dragon is one of the monsters sacrificed to bring it out.
Just wait until Locomotion R-Genex steals it rofl, it's effect doesn't target. It just takes highest level monster to Locomotion user's control.
My Cloudians can consistently get Nimbusman to 4500-5000 ATK. Given that your deck mostly relies on Obelisk's attacks and (at least from what you showed in the video) can't consistently trigger his destruction effect, all I'd need is a Spirit Barrier/Sanctuary in the Sky, Cloudian Squall, and 2-3 turns to out beatstick Obelisk while you wouldn't be able to get past my monsters without using Obelisk's effect since Cloudians don''t die in battle and the Spirit Barrier/Sanctuary means you can't do damage to me.
well if you have a target card. It still cant be destroyed cause of hardened and it can tribute itself for its effect if necessary. Skill drain will just allow you to target it.
great effect but a powerbonded cyber twin and a limiter will trample over or cyber eltani will send to grave not destroy so thats something to think about
I cant believe no one knows compulsory escape device. They all think it is evacuation device. Escape doesnt target evacuation does target. Escape shuffles to deck, evacuation returns to hand.
a few ways to break this lock are neo spacian grand troll, metaion, dropping honest when u atk, spellbook of fate, trish(if ur playing ocg), morphing jar #2, super powering something with sirocco, or using huge ass beatsticks such as malefic cyber end, 5 head dragon, dark neosphere. But yeah i doubt most decks would ever play most of these cards, making this still a hard to break lock. and if i was playing heros i would go excaliber crash
This is a really cool deck, I suggest making this deck IRL, I already have 3/4 deck finished, and yes, I have 3 Obelisk.
This same thing can be done with earthbound uru. He has a lower cost and with hardened arm dragon won't be destroyed by his earthbound own effect
The by far meanest card to destroy Locks is still Guardian Sphinx. It can even break the White Dragon Ninja - Safe Zone Combo.
If you can change obelisk's attack to a low number without that targeting it, that would work.
Still isn't considered targeting anything:
"Each player chooses 1 monster they control and switches control of those monsters with each other. Those monsters cannot change their battle positions for the rest of this turn."
Does not say 'target', therefore does not target. Praise for new card text. :p
well technically you could side in dna transplant to make obelisk into whatever you want.

who said you have to beat obelisk. Just go for the celtic guardian otk. A solidarity and a forces would put it at a minimum of 2800. Delta attack would equal 8400 damage with 3 of them.
Dark Mist can get over Obelisk as it's effect doesn't target and the destruction method is by battle.
they always make those complexions. Its just like how you wont get crimson bladers effect if it is destroyd along with the monster because it says "destroy and send" while if it just says "destroy" without targeting it would get its effect even it was destroyed along with the monster by battle. Thats yugioh logic for you.

You can use gishkis to take this thing out no problem - the whole idea of gishki zielgigas is that he has non targeting and non destroying removal so he gets over almost everything
Ummm there's Vision Hero Trinity who doubles his attack when Summoned. Goes from 2500 to 5000 instantly. Can wreck Obelisk but I guess most Hero players don't think of using Trinity

well yea same could be said of any deck that has versatility
if you dark hole in a random deck and attack for game did u win because of the dark hole? or your own cards? edrags are just staples now, not an entire deck anymore, and they help out decks like ice barriers to actually compete with newer decks
Do you realize then you have one beater which can only destroy monsters not any card. It doesn't help prevent a mirror force.
Oh. I didn't know that Obelisk hasn't the "cannot be target" effect anymore.
Oh, and which Hero fusion does involve the Attribute DIVINE?
DD warrior lady, honest, any cyber dragon with limiter removal, power bonded cyber fusions, excalibur, a burn deck, and much more can stop it. Also, Dark world could OTK before you get it out.
You can point-for-point with 'Heroic Champion - Excalibur', and Hero decks can make it too. Maybe the Hero player (that azneyes talked about) wasn't running it...
Skill Drain works to stop the no targeting effect of Obelisk.
Never understood that either, but I've heard that myself a few times. Apparently "selecting" is not the same as "targeting" or something...
They don't target. Grand mole warrior lady and stuff like that don't target. You can use card effects as long as they don't target. For a card to target it has to say target. A card that affects 1 card doesn't mean it targets.
I've gotten over obelisk by making heroic champion excalibur and dropping heroic challenger sword-shield to keep my excalibur from being destroyed.
I"m going to try to list 20 ways to beat it.
Grand Mole,Compulsory Escape Device(not evacuation),Madolche queen,d.d. warrior lady,d.d. warrior,d.d. assailant,Spellbook of fate,Lava Golem,creature swap,rainbow neos(effect or attack),volcanic queen,wicked deadroot,wicked avatar,super poly,armor master,HTs psyhemuth,rainbow dragon (both effects) 18. wall of illusion 19. Skill drain (with target effect) 20. Destiny hero plasma (since it negates obelisks effect)
There are many more though.
Get your own Creature Swap and then your god is back like nothing happened.

Its because its "choose". I've heard that selecting counts as targeting but choosing is not. Im not sure though. I just assumed that cause in devpro my opponent negated an effect with turtle that said select so I gess select is target but choose is not.
Actually Super Poly won't work. There is no fusion that Obelisk is a material is. You're gonna say something like The Shining or something. Obelisk isn't a Light monster he's actually Divine, not light.
dna transplant changes it to any attribute you want. or you can use super poly plus dna surgery (machine) plus overdragon. Or you could simply go dna surgery (machine) plus foretress dragon.
Incidentally, I had a goof deck once that'd take this on pretty easily. Mystic Tomato into The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion, then Instant Fusion for Flame Swordsman. Sac both for Dark Flare Knight, run into Obelisk, get Mirage Knight off of two cards and run over Obelisk, ideally with Honest for extra damage. Actually, wouldn't Honest just outright beat this regardless of everything? Or is that actually banned now?
Edit: Just checked, Honest at 2? Almost want to rebuild it, but no idea where any of it even is anymore.
I also run an Obelisk deck, and I combine it with The Tyrant Neptune, so when I tribute Obelisk and Hardened for its summon, is a 5500 atk / 4800 def monster that cannot be targeted or destroyed, lol!
but that only gets rid of its destroy resistance. You'd still have to use like a dark hole after.
HAD only prevents the tributed monster from destruction by a trap card, skill drain doesn't target and doesn't destroy
In Bujin's defence, either of the bujin xyz plus crane should be enough if Obelisk is only at 4000
you can only stop the card that summons it so you judgment stops rise of the snake diety but not venominaga. Most of the time you wont be reviving venonimiga anyway.

It's a combo, good for almost any situation, though not always available to you

He could have fused into Trinity for a 5000 beatdown on Obelisk.
even the huge revoulution can stop it if obelisk uses its effect to destroy like 5 monsters.
Trinity gets over this quite easily and has 2 attacks to spare
Technically any warrior deck that runs Excalibur can crash into obelisk such as six sams, noble knights, bubble beat down, ect.
I find it really stupid that after you say obelisks effect makes it so he can't be targeted and hardened arm makes him indestructible by card effects, people still suggest at least 10 different cards that target.
Aside from Tiaramisu and Spellbook of Fate, which you mentioned, off the top of my head this can be beaten by any monster with more attack, Destiny Hero Plasma, Neo-spacian Grand Troll, Flip flop frog, and I'm sure their are more. What I like about yugioh is nothing is unstoppable. Neat combo though.

Book of Moon resets Hardened Arm Dragon's protection.
it doesnt target I'll give you the rulings. Rabbit only works if you dont control other monsters. if you control other monsters yu'll have to shuffle one of them. But if rabbit is the only one you can banish it and you dont have anything to shuffle. "This effect doesn't target.[1]"
"If at the time of the resolution of "Compulsory Escape Device" only one of the players controls monsters, the player who controls monsters chooses 1 of them and returns it to the Deck.[2]
I played against a cyber Dragon deck twice and got okt'd both times. They summoned a monster with like 6000 attack that can attack twice. first turn. And destroy my traps too before attacking.

Cyber Dragons would easily be able to get more than 4000 attack (through power bond or limiter removal)
or simple enough with cyber dragon nova eff.
