    Carra was a cult hero @ Anfield because he was a Scouser and he played with his heart as a Liverpool fan would, even though as a kid he was an Evertonian. He did read the game well but his achilles heel was always pace meaning he couldn't defend high up the field he always had to defend deep. This allowed teams to play between the lines and push Liverpool back.
    Neville for 10 years was the best right back in the PL and is the best right back the PL has seen. Like Carra he wasn't the quickest but he read the game brilliantly and had the knack of knowing when to defend and when to go forward and deliver his brilliant crosses.
    Both of them were more than just players in that they were real team men and could give help and instruction to others around them.
    Carra is just one of these unlucky people who scored more own goals than any other defender that springs to mind and also in that he never won The Title. Neville on the other hand was a lucky man. Winning numerous titles and being a part of more success than I'm sure he ever believed possible!!!
    As pundits Neville started out as he did as a player, absolutely brilliant and tbf to Carra after a dodgy start he's improved now and found his confidence. From the outside it looks like he's watched Neville and learned from the way he presents.

    Gary was one of those player who aren't blessed with a lot of talent, but you didn't see mistakes in him, no holes between right centre back and his position. perfect position. Craig just summed it up tbh, reading of the game and the distance he took while maintaining the shape were his game. carra was typical English cb, tough, robust, threw his head where it hurts likes his sliding tackle BUT had mistakes in him just like Woodgate, upson, jones, smalling, shawcross etc .Carra is an bargain basement John Terry(had mistakes on him too), and a slightly superior version of lovren

      English football didn't trust CDs under 6,1. Carrager studied his opponents meticulously and grew every year under benitez. At around 27 when lfc where a good champions league side many players in Europe were claiming Carrager was the best CD in Europe. Its hard to objectively argue at that at this point he was world class. You could perhaps say it was only for 3 YEARS. But I always admired players who became great through hard work. Neville was the better Right Back, Carragher was the better Centre Back BUT Carragher could also play both positions/was more versatile than Neville.
    You'd probably have to go back all the way to 66 before you found a better English Right Back than Gary Neville {It's not a position we've been particularly strong in over the years}.
    Carragher wouldn't even make the Top 10 English Centre Backs in that same period as well as being behind G.Neville for the Right Back role.
    So yeah - Carragher's a versatile sub but G.Neville is the #1 Choice for Right Back post George Cohen.

Carragher beats Neville in almost every aspect of physical defending such as blocks, tackles and interceptions..

    • @brentmeistergeneral6074
      @brentmeistergeneral6074 4 года назад

      What yes he does beat Nev in terms of blocks, tackles and interceptions because he read the game better. Neville was more physical ie he was fitter, faster and strong and could catch wingers and had the tank to run up and down the pitch all game, overlapping with Becks and co.
      Carra was a better natural ball player and reader of the game and was always in the right place at the right time to make those interceptions, tackles etc. Own goals are just from being in right place at right time but making a mistake ie a mis-kick.

    • @kingra2650

      that's bad logic, the team won the league with UTD, not GN on his own. JC was always in worse teams with worse managers than UTD at the time. Personally though I do think GN shades, but even still JC was Liverpool's saviour many times

    Look now in 2022 and you have had Jaden Sancho and Jude Bellingham to name a few who at a young age can go abroad and do really well at big club's,so even Bale had great success at Real Madrid despite what their stupid fan's think.The world today allows for younger player's who are generally English to go abroad and do well for whatever reason.

    I'm a Leeds fan and have never liked Gary neville but why is even a question that comes up? Carra wasn't even in the same league.
    Gary Neville was a England regular.Jamie barely made the squad at times.Also when people talk best prem team ever...Nevilles in 90% of everyone's,James not even mentioned.No point mentioning league because that's irrelevant as Man utds squads have been far superior in general (which I hate saying)

      There's a flaw with your argument. The level of competition in their respective positions. Carragher was competing with Ferdinand, Terry, Campbell, Adams, Keown, King etc at international level, and Vidic, Stam, Kompany, Hyypia, Bruce, Pallister and Carvalho on top of that in the Premier League.
      Neville was competing with who? Zabaleta? Lauren? Dixon? Richards? I mean, not exactly an even comparison here..

      Because Neville had no competition, name one english right back in the mid 2000s who was good, u can’t. Carragher competed with terry, Ferdinand, Campbell, it was a lot harder for Jamie to get in the team

      +Lucy Wells damn you're dull witted. He means figuratively, as in Neville is way better, it's a metaphor, like the difference between players that are in different tiers of the English leagues.

    Why can't we just say that one was a great CB and the other was a great RB, they both have enough trophies to make a case for themselves. If they were both playing in the same position I'd understand the comparison but they aren't, you might as well be comparing Rio and Neville.

      Plug Plugintons dude forget about what they've won, if that's the case then flipping Anderson is better than gerrard. Carra was the better defender.

    • @plugplugintons8484

      Hate the new RUclips. I agree its not just about what theyve won. But its a factor. But neville could run all day and put a cross in the box not just defend, carra could do neither 😂 thats why he was overlooked for england really in the right back spot where as neville won over 80 caps! At one stage neville was in the top 3/4 right backs in the world. Carra never been top 10 either at cb of rb.

    • @Insertnamehere287
      @Insertnamehere287 6 лет назад +1

      Plug Plugintons I think carra was massively underrated and Neville overrated. The thing that stands out for me is when neville's pace went he looked like a terrible player, his pace made him look better than he was. Just my opinion though.

      honours dont means one is better than the other, its a team game (by your reasoning the entire usa team were better than giggs because they played at a wc finals) . England caps are irrelevant, different positions. England didnt have any good full backs at the time. even fergie said he wished he had been able to get adams and carragher.
