excellent recap as always. So... they have a bout 7 secret projects they're working on? No wonder a year later we're still waiting for Version 7 or the Video Models to appear. I just don't get their insistence of public collaboration. If everyone using Microsoft Word could see everything I'm writing or every document I make, you know what... I wouldn't use Microsoft Word... at all... ever! Absolutely, people should be allowed to share and collaborate... but only when they choose to, not as the default setting. I guess I'm just in a completely different version of the multiverse to the entire Midjourney team. Anyway... thanks for the update as always Nolan, I'll be over on the MJ website trying to push the important things to the top of the list :)
Same opinion. Doing the same thing. Although I feel the list is now more for them to confirm what they believe they should be doing instead of acting based on at least _some_ of our feedback.
Lol, has the owner of MJ got a zukerberg or musk obssession , he sure loves the social aspect of his vision. I hope they dont get rid of old editor, the censorship on the new editor is off the chart, im continually getting 'the ai moderator doesnt like that"😢
I think, as is, Patchwork appears limited but I would think in the future it could be a good way to layout and develop storybooks and, potentially, videos. It will need the ability to have multiple consistent characters in scenes of varying composition. The example video just had characters in long shot with either their back turned or in shadow - not that encouraging. you can set the patchwork world to be only viewable by yourself, so that is not an issue
I use MJ daily; the best so far for my history videos. I still cannot visualise what benefit to me is any of these WIP ideas. How MJ video will beat Kling, Sora, Runway, etc is beyond me. But, a decent storytelling environment with consistent characters is something to look forward to, in 2025. Hopefully.
Patchwork , It is super niche. Very involved and committed work style is needed. The ui kinda looks raw and bad tbh. Anything Collaborative is a flop, we know from their rooms idea. I am however excited about moodboards.
ngl, what they’re doing rn feels like they’re just obsessed w/ their own “ARTSY, WE ARE SO DIFFRENT” vibe. and they’re charging ppl for it too.😂 been using MidJourney 2 yrs, but lately, got some doubts. they hype "artistic value," "creativity," and "interaction" as their thing vs other AI generators. but tbh, the way it works rn feels off. too much randomness, results often don’t match what ppl actually want or the creative vibe. if they rlly wanna back real artistry n creativity, they gotta give users more control n tools for intentional workflows.
Thank you for the updates, always great! These guys at MJ they are all plans and no results.. My annual subscription expires in a few days and I'm wondering if I should move to Leonardo or someone else, they seem to be releasing new useful functionality quite often..
The moment OpenAI releases their new flag ship image generator this company is done lmao. All that stalling, just for features no one is asking for. Who cares about social stuff and world building when the model can't even generate consistent characters...
You can't even make a simple octopus without it's tenticles being all jacked up and they're already moving onto video and some useless 'patchwork' (I don't see the point of collaborating with strangers unless you're just looking to waste time)... All I want is to be able to direct more complex scenes, better image quality (proportions, perspectives), accuracy and character control. But most important to me is 'world knowledge' and extended understanding of animal species... I can't believe the AI only knows the most common animals but it can't get an Ibex mountain goat or belted kingfisher right despite feeding it multiple reference photos
This new tool is a complete failure. Let them focus instead on : - Improved character consistency. - 3D. - The video (when they decide to actually do it after centuries of office hours). - Tools to make a better comic strip. - Hands - Faces, especially when there are several people. - Other things I forgot but are also important. We forgave them for the retexture because we can start controlling the movements of our characters. But that's not enough.
So far Patchwork feels like just a random prompt generator locked in specific srefs and personalization.

haha I'm a solo guy myself but I guess they really are a social company!

I use "personalization" from now on with my stuff since it creates the best works for me and my channel.
Getting patchwork out before a video model is such a blindingly nonsensical move

You should write down the prompt in the description please
midjourney is so slow with major features

Great recap, thanks. Patchwork is meh, I don't get it. But apparently a lot of people voted for it.
Who voted for it lol? It was their own internal thing.

I look forward to this video every week!! ❤❤
I'm happy to hear that!

Thanks for doing this 👍🏽👍🏽

But sora is pretty bad tbh, i mean the other video creators ( crude as they are ) r better

👋 hi
🤝
This new tool is a complete failure.
Let them focus instead on :
- Improved character consistency.
- 3D.
- The video (when they decide to actually do it after centuries of office hours).
- Tools to make a better comic strip.
- Hands
- Faces, especially when there are several people.
- Other things I forgot but are also important.
We forgave them for the retexture because we can start controlling the movements of our characters.
But that's not enough.
Patchwork is an underwhelming project, again
