I could sense a tiny bit of frustration with this shoes performance in your review however you were still nice to recommend it for casual training/ airmax lovers. Suggesting some better alternatives 6:18 is a good one to include in this review. I appreciate all your reviews, very helpful. Thank you! ❤
Jake, you legit deserve 1mil subs. I bought a pair of Adidas running shoes months ago based on your reviews, and right now I'm not looking for anything, but I'm just watching just for the fun of it.
Just bought these today, been wearing them all day. I have slender feet so they feel good. Picky shoe guy, I'm happy with them. Dodged a bullet , all the wide foot people aren't happy with them haha
Actuality, these aren't bad at all for upper body gym days. And they come in 4E for those that need room for toe splay. I have been using these for a year, along with Adidas Totals for lower body days.
So glad I stumbled across this to validate my own experience of this trainer, I bought the trainer based on 2 things Price and the fact I had been the happy owner of a pair of Alpha 4's for almost 3 years which were a brilliant trainer. The Alpha 5 is nothing similar to the Alpha 4, it's about a third bigger in depth and size, so unless you have freakishly wide/deep feet and ankles the fit will always be sloppy. No matter how tight you pull the laces the trainer never feels fitted, which as most people would want this for gym training and exercise means its offers really poor performance as your foot never feels properly supported and grounded. The mesh material they have used is also totally sub standard to the alpha 4. As mentioned the Alpha 4's i've had were brilliant in comparison even though they weren't specifically designed for running their fit and durability meant I'd happily run on the treadmill for half an hour or use for weights, they were a perfect blend and a great price. The alpha 5's i'd honestly avoid, they're pointless for training, definitely would never use them even for a jog, but also HIIT workouts they're too big a sloppy, weights too much movement, just avoid. Not sure what Nike done here but they've lost a repeat customer.
This shoe has been great for me. The only issue ive had is with the turf slip. I do more boxing, running, and mixed cardio, i used to use an airmax 90 which felt super heavy. Got a nike waffle trainer 2 which was the worst for the gym and hybrid workout sessions. Running grip was great but balance was horrible. Got these and theyve been a great all-rounder so far. Not really into static gym sessions like deadlifts but i do jumping at different heights so its a different type of balance i guess, but these have a slight ankle support which has been solid for me.
Perfect shoe for casual wearing. I have wider foot but this model fits me really good. Just for the record, I love your channel and its really helpful, but i have to disagree with you on this one. Thanks for your content tho! Big up!!
What do you recommend as a shoe for gym / HIIT? Im 75kg so Im not lifting massive stuff, and Im seeking a balance between performance and leightweight comfort. Ideally without breaking the bank.
Glad i watched this video. I was gonna buy these until i seen your review. I'm thinking about trying the under armor project rock bsr 4 or the other under armor training shoe you reviewed few months ago, can't remember the name but there like $130 and have the removable insole.
I’d go TriBase Reign 6. The PR4 is also good. Idk about the comment above, but they’ve been fine for my feet - some may not align with them, though, which is normal in every shoe since companies use general lasts (molds) when building models!
I bought this shoes bcs the model looks cool, but after I squatted with these in the gym just recently, it started to make sense that you reviewed it bcs it is THAT bad. I'm pretty stable at squatting but when I used it, suddenly I had wobbly knees
Eh, casual stuff to school, yeah, but they're so narrow and you can find better options, honestly - especially if you want to run in your shoes. These are wicked sub-par for running
Thanks for the video, looking for something good for training, yesterday I visited several stores, I was thinking it was difficult to find something comfortable for training, they are doing bad things, also most of the shoes do not have the arch well marked, or the foot dances inside, or too much uncomfortable platform, or poorly padded back of the foot. Nike should fire its manager of the sports shoe line.
Hey Jake, nice vid! I know this is not the video to ask but I was wondering which shoe would you choose between the Reebok nanoflex tr2 and Adidas trainer V; mainly for regular lifting, with some strength and plyometrics training here and there. I'm and athlete that complements his main discipline with the gym and I wasn't sure which one to choose
Hello Jake! I'm trying to buy these shoes. Should I buy size 9 or 9.5, which fits me perfectly? Please note that I will not be using these shoes for weights.
Personally i find it comfortable running and jogging accept squads and all leg days stuff but its heavy in start a month in or so its lighter prob bc u getting use to it but i love it from a personal experience
I purchased a lot of these shoes, i have Trainer 5 alsp 6, buy what i confront with is, noises when i walk, and only on the left shoe. It drives me crazy, idk what to do with them. I have this issue with an Trainer 5 Black and a Trainer 6 blue turqoize color.
People tend to use them for both. I put them more into the gen purpose box since there are WAYYYY better training shoes despite how Nike languages these
The last Alphas that were ok for training were the 2, the midsole was not that thick, it was nice for wide and flat feet, I've pretty much worn out a pair of 2s in a single year cos' they were really good, but then the 3 went, the 4... and it was looking meh indeed, I didn't understand what was Nike's point. The Alphas are the low budget, the entry level shoes to discover training, I got them 2s for only 60 euros, now 95 ? nope.. sorry but not sorry it's a huge NOPE indeed you're right. The 2s were awesome for jump rope, but then I went to the Nano X, then X1, X2, X3 ... it's another league. Correction: I had the very 1st Alphas too ! found them back in my used shoes drawers. Very similar to the 2s.
I'm thinking of using these shoes only to train my upper torso. Will they work? The weights I use are medium I'll use other ones to train my lower torso
Okay, I had Plantar fasciitis, my orthopedist recommended this simple shoe for workouts such as leg press, etc. The final conclusion is that I have completely gotten rid of my Plantar fasciitis (through physiotherapy) but I also train a lot with this shoe. Therefore, my experience is not bad at all.
That’s awesome, hell yeah! I’d just say be careful connecting things that may not be connected and more coincidental. I recently did that with knee pain and weightlifting shoes, and you see it a lot with folks with diff pains and barefoot shoes. It’s prob not only the shoe but the work you’re doing in tandem while wearing them :)
There might have been a reason redesign of this shoe. The 2 pairs I got in Tokyo in March this year have a flat toe section that don't curl up towards the sky, unlike those on this video.
Yeah, casual stuff they're fine. Most shoes will be fine for casual stuff, even Crocs, lol. Wheels come off once you start pushing harder and producing more effort
@@thatfitfriend just arrived! They are really good but around the heel they are quite tight. You think i should get a different size or just a new shoe? Also i wear insoles which makes it be quite high up at the heel area
And I am watching this video that they're not suitable for flat and wide feet after I've placed an order for it. 😮 Now will see how they turn out for me.
I feel like you did a lot of deadlifting in this shoe. But of you look at the shoe you can tell it won't be good for that. As you know you want a flat shoe for that. But did you squat in it. Cause that heel almost looks like a squat shoe. Only thing is the air pocket in the heel would be counter intuitive for a squat shoe with a heel.
Bro, they suck, lol. Read the comments 😂 I squatted 315 and was like hellllll no And not to be rude, these just ain’t it and one of Nikes worse models if you want to train

Yeah, you can get away with em! They may start to fall short as you get more serious with your lifts/cross-training, but can be fine for casual sessions!
