They say that the point of a pool cover is to minimize evaporation. Just like sweat, evaporation cools the pool water. The temperatures should be taken in the morning to see if the heat was retained overnight.
It may not heat much during the day but it will hold the heat in over night. of corse the solar cover will work better since it covers the pool surface.
Black plastic is only going to heat the surface of the water. The concept is to use blue pool cover material to let the sun in to heat all the water not just the 1-2" of the surface water!
So, there are lots of mistakes made here. :( They do work IF: 1.) PUMP IS ON LOW 2.) THEY COVER ALMOST THE ENTIRE SURFACE (having 1/4 of the pool covered is a joke!)
Sorry, but this test is dumb. Are you running your pump during this process and circulating the water? Therefore keeping them in one section wont matter. Even if you arent running the filter, the water is still moving none the less. On top of that, take the temperature a couple of feet down, and then compare. Pretty sure youll see the same results before and after since these pads are only going to heat up the first couple of inches and thats it.
Hi John Bianchi, the lily pads did only heat up for first couple of inches of the surface. That's the point of the video, to take random Pins from Pinterest and put it to the test by following their directions. This Pin did not deliver on its concept of using trash bag lily pads to heat up the entire pool. There are further steps that need to be taken into account for it to actually work, but those steps were not listed on the initial Pin I found. Thanks.
@@stephanieespina6582 Exactly. I'm obviously watching this to see a real review of it before I do it. I appreciate you doing this and testing them out.

what if you have a solar cover and cut that to fit the hoolahoops

I think using the blue solar cover material would probably work better
Thanks, I had my doubts to that this works. The only thing that's going to warm the water in a pool is a pool heater or solar cover. :)
She definitely didn’t use enough and she didn’t turn her pool pump off.
It's a nice experiment try, but this is tricky and there are a lot of variables to chew on. Good effort.

@@stephanieespina6582 thanks so much for taking the time to prove this! I was also considering putting it to the test.
@@nathaliebeauvois8071 Hi Nathalie! Yes, it was one a pin I came across and was convinced I had to test.
You gotta turn the pump off when you do this..
you would think by now everyone would know this is fake LOL
Or just use a solar blanket
