1987 Toyota - Lifted 2wd Pickup Truck

- This 1987 Toyota Pickup is the second of three trucks I just purchased. This one is 2wd with a Fabtech 3.5” lift kit. It also had an aftermarket fiberglass step side bed, which I already sold. The previous owner installed 2” wheel spacers and 15” Jeep Cherokee wheels. It has a 22r engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Like most of the Toyota trucks I’ve purchased, this one also has a rotting frame, rusty cab, and is not roadworthy.

I love how the owners manual just says TRUCK!
Sound like Chrisfix when he said hey guys.
Geronimo SoHigh ChrisFix makes a perfect video every time 👍
That front end looks like it’s set up for flat towing. The plug is for the tail lights while towing.
Dr What98 thanks for the info!
Thats what I thought also!
I am learned the driving on this modle in diesel version 2400 cc i really love this modle.....
Can't go wrong with those trucks!
Looking good Brian! Love the edit and vid series!
Thanks! YT and Yotas are a fun way to spend me free time. Well the little free time I have... I'm sure you know how it is!
I was gonna say "what's free time?" I should have documented the 12x16 pavilion build I'm doing. Damn
Hey 6th Gear, do you need a rust-free 1987 Toyota 2WD chassis?
If I had a warehouse or some huge building, I'd scoop up every rust free frame I could find. Unfortunately, I'm out of space for any more projects.
Dude pls let me know how I take out the driver side upper control arm. The steering column or whatever it’s called seems to be getting in the way and I don’t know how to take it off. I need your help!
Did you try unbolting the coupling where the shaft meets the steering box?
my 86 xtra cab long bed has the same style rear window, it is a aftermarket window.
My Toyota’s got Jeep wheels to
that truck makes me want to cry
All too familiar to me here in Wisconsin. I’m starting to hunt for cabs, body shells, body parts and frames from outside of the rustbelt. I’m using the pats to put together perfect rust free toyotas. Pickups, 4runners and Landcruisers. Yeah, they have salvage titles, but nobody cares when they see them up close.
Matt S_. Smart plan. A rust free yota around here is gold.
6th Gear Garage I just got a notice from eBay, my 22R air intake tube just sold for $30! I have parts from at least three or four classic Yota’s. Your other video about parting out yours Inspired me.
Matt S_. I think you could have gotten even more than that 👍 try 40-50 next time.
6th Gear Garage That’s a problem i’ve wrestled with my whole life. I always want the other guy to get a good deal. In any case, Working with old Toyotas it’s almost a reward in itself, real labor of love.
I'm out here in the super dry AZ desert. I'm finishing another build. An 87 4x4 extra cab. But I've got a 88 2wd all there but the engine. But I've got a buildable one. Truck is in amazing shape. Literally zero rust. 0% 4 speed non A/C truck. I bought it just for the running engine. Any takers message this and will see.
Rear end available?
No I sold it for $100, only to find out I need it for a different project 2 years later. Isn't that how it goes...
sweet truck man
Any add ons after that fab tech control arms to make truck taller ??
Not that I'm aware of for the front. I know on the rear you can run the leaf sprigs over the axle instead of under, to get some additional height.
Custom Tubeworks makes custom 4” lift spindles check them out
The brackets on the front of your 87 is for a tow bar set up
That's what I've been told, thanks for confirming!
Great video, what are you going to do to this truck?
Thanks! I'm not sure yet. Mechanically it's perfect, but the frame is getting kind of sketchy for road use. The cab isn't great either. It's been sitting in the garage until I figure out what I'm going to do with it.
Hey, I’m trying to lift my Toyota. Is the lift kit different from the 4WD to 2WD? If not, could I get a link to the lift kit you used?
Edit: Nevermind, just found it
Yes they are diffferent when it comes to 2wd and 4wd. In addition to the fabtech kit, this truck also had swayaway torsion bars.
@@6thGearGarage ok, thank you. I just ordered them
Great video and quick question do you know if the febteck liftkit it has would work on a 2004 2wd hilux?
Pocket Pretzels no I believe it only fits 84-95
What size tires did you fit?
It had 225/75R15 tires on the jeep wheels
Hi can you tell me the measurements from the wheel adapters the pickup has I want to put a Jeep rims on my Toyota pickup
I haven't removed the wheels yet to see them, but when I do I will let you know.
Its 4 1/2 bolt pattern
Need that tailgate where can I find one?
You'd have to find out who manufactured that bed. I didn't see any manufacturer's markings on mine. Unfortunately, most of the different companies that made fiberglass beds for these trucks have gone out of business or stopped making them.
Does any know where I can find 86 Toyota bench seat??
oscar quen I have 2 here in Ohio, one brown and one grey.
Dam but I live in California. Do you know any site or company that does??
Have a near complete truck no engine and out in the area of needles CA.
Does anyone know if the 87 2wd frame is the same as 4wd?
Methodwake the 2wd frame is not the same. The front is different where the suspension mounts, maybe where the steering box mounts too.
Can anyone send me a link to the lift kit I can’t seem to find one for my 2wd truck which is in way better condition than that one
