Freaking yes! I said it in the "Friend of the Devil" cover and I'll say it here: Josh Turner has the hardest working Zoom H2 in the business. I've been down the equipment rabbit hole time and time again, and I am so sincere about this... after watching "Friend of the Devil," everything started to click for me. It led me to your video series on recording with the Zoom H2, and I decided to scrap all my XLR cords, USB interfaces, condensers, and line-ins, in favor of a Zoom H6 with the XY microphone similar to the H2. It's all I've been using, I've never sounded better, I'm recording an entire album with it, I'm recording in the field with it... I'm doing what I want to do for the first time which is HAVE FUN and focus on the music. It's such a "derp" concept, and I'm embarrassed that it's taken me this long to figure out, but it may be the most important lesson I've learned along the way. Much obliged for that Josh!

I've watched countless hours of audio engineering videos on RUclips. This may just be the best 4 minutes I've spent! You're a gift Josh!
As the owner of an H2, because of Josh, I can say it is an amazing piece of equipment. It is self contained and because it is it is the first choice for recording in our of the studio recordings. Top notch, reasonably priced and blow you away sound quality. Since it records in digital format you don't need an interface to get files that are immediately useable in your music or video projects. That said this is a very cute commercial, as one would expect from a true artist.
As someone who has suffered with turbulent G.A.S. or Gear Acquisition Syndrome all my life; I can say this video holds true to the core values all musicians should aspire to.
Hi I take photographs (even bring them back, sometimes) and I am very familiar with 'Toggers' GAS - Chelsea & Tony Northrup (You Tube) even did a vid about it. Good to see musicians are also plagued by equipment farting, oops GAS.

Pros buy the best they can afford and thats that. They stick with it until it breaks.
Eventually If they need anything better they rent or borrow it for the job. I work w/clients that pay for us to rent Alexa’s and Cooke cinema lenses and a whole moving truck full of lighting and grip equipment.
I couldn’t afford even a single lens myself or a single m18 light.
Start thinking like a pro. Visit your local rental house or find an online one. For photography, you can rent almost any photography lens for 25-50 dollars a day. Rent on Friday and you can keep it until monday morning for 1 day fee.

I bought a Zoom H4N used 7 or 8 years ago and have loved it ever since. Those sparkling highs, those creamy mid-tones, that satisfying bass,... what's not to love! Yeah, I've got a few of those million dollar mics but nothing beats my Zoom! (not sponsored) :D😎😂
Takes me back to running educational films at my school in the mid-1950s on an RCA 16mm projector. The word choices, phrasing, and vocal tone seem stolen from those films. Bravo.
As a former radio man and a voice over artist, I've always appreciated Josh's attention to detail in the recording and mixing of his outstanding music. I'm glad he's giving his fans a glimpse of the thought, preparation, and expertise that goes into his music productions.
The historical perspective makes this hilarious! I watch old documentaries of various things such as how the old highways were built and farming of the 30's and 40's, well done.

This channel and Reina del Cid's taught me that you can get three, four or more people recorded excellently on a single mic. I've seen so much bluegrass recorded on a single mic, it's just amazing what can be done when we learn from early recordings.
I’ve had my H2 for over 10 years and it’s still going strong. Great and so easy to use!
Ι own an H1n and I am recording electric guitar. The sound is amazing. I use the limiter bass cutoff and auto input. Is all you need. No cables no adjustments and the sound is perfect.

You know, Reina talked me into buyin one of those new dangled AUDIGO wireless mic’s about 4 months ago. Then I just HAD to have a Martin geetar. Whew, runnin outta moola fer sure. Now………sigh………I guess I’ll get this thingamagigee next.

I got my H2 in august 2008. Took it to many travels for fieldrecording and other tasks. It never ever failed. Pluck in power for my hydrophone is also a great feature. One of the best purchases I have ever done.
I'd want to make a similar video on my Squier Mini if I were as talented as Josh.

What a treat! Got one in 05 for Christmas and recorded many concerts and song ideas with it. I have 3 now and my dad still has his from around 07. A terrific workhorse.
OK - My zoom H4n and two AKG414 on top of each other figure 8 90-45 degrees apart. Preddy good sound with no phase differences. There is no denying the quality of your recordings. And it was good to see you on your road trip spreading the word and keeping the faith. Namaste.

Love my H2 - use it for almost all my songwriting sessions. Using it on its side also gives you good separation between vocal and guitar and allows some easy rebalancing.
very nice psa, if i am not mistaken, it records it internally, which makes it amazing for these vids you make, as you don't need a preamp or laptop to be plugged in in the middle of the field of barley

The H2 is a great little device, I used mine also for recording band rehearsels.
The 360 capture was great: we placed it in the middle of the room, it can take the sound levels, sounds good and we could still do some instrument balancing afterward.

I’ve made countless recordings of rehearsals and gigs on the H2 and it’s great for that. The main annoyances are the awkward user interface and tiny screen. It’s easy to overload the inputs when recording at high volumes. It’s important to use the pad switch on the side in those situations. Rolling the fader down doesn’t prevent overload.
I now have an H8, which is obviously much more versatile, but if all I need is a live recording the H2 works fine and can easily fit in a pocket.
You are an amazing talent. I always enjoy your videos.

That was the 1st model I bought way back about 15 years ago.
Used it to record my band LIVE right in front of the stage area.
DAM! BAM! No bullshit. That unit does a fantastic job getting all instruments and their own tones with its built-in mics.
You can even record a 4 track live, getting more room and audience.
Way too easy. Fits on a stand and downloads into DAW no nonsense.
Record WAV at 48 gave me the best results.
I trusted Zoom for all those years I went ahead and got the H6.
Holy Crap! Insane quality ! 6 tracks ! I gave away that original one and that person is still using it today to record himself writing tunes when they pop in his head.
I am A Zoom Fan since these items.
I Highly recommend you try any Zoom item out that has the features to fit your needs. You will be pleased.

Not exactly the point of the video but one of my favorite things is when an engineer interviews an older musician/engineer how they did x, y, or z and if they used this or that method and they respond “oh we just used whatever we had on hand that day and did 2 takes we were done”

I'm glad you still have your H2. I remember commenting on your H2 on, I assume, your old Sultans of Swing video, and you replied to that comment, as I recall.
My introduction to the H2 was in a corporate environment. I needed to record meetings and capture what was said, so I could call my boss out when he changed his mind about things. I was so impressed with it as a standalone recorder, but it also worked well as just a USB mic. And as a hobbyist musician, it seemed to me like it would be great for recording music also, even though that did not seem to be a selling point of it.
Because I had bought that H2 on my corporate credit card, I did the right thing and left it behind when I quit. I assume they never used it again, and if they did, they by golly never appreciated it for what it was. I should have kept it.
I have noticed, over the years, that you have kept using Zoom devices, but I hadn't noticed the H2 on your videos in a long time. Like I said, I'm glad you still have it. I guess I shouldn't be surprised you do. But I guess I'm surprised you're featuring it after all these years. Just goes to show how well made it was.

This video inspired me to get one of these on eBay. I like gear and well-recorded music, but I like simplicity, too. This is a best-of-all-worlds scenario. Now I just need to find some time to record, which is not as easily come by...
Make sure to always change out your amp’s reverb fluid and distortion filter every 100 hours. Your amp will last much longer and your tubes will hold more notes. You’ll be glad you did.

I got an H2 15 years ago for recording my (then) small children. Also have used H2s at work (radio journalism). Excellent value for money!
