Haha.. before I watched this video, I watched the 15 min MissOrchidGirl video w/ 1 million views and it was just such an annoying video w/ advertising and a bunch of blah blah blah, but this video here was straight to the point and I just love videos like this that cut out all the BS and don't waste your time!
I absolutely appreciate this video. I've been doing this for two weeks now and the orchid has recovered and is growing by leaps and bounds! Brought back from near death. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. Explaining the actual habitat of the Orchid really helps to explain why they don't need to sit in water, I will now go and correctly water all my plants and stop drowning them!
ThanQ for this short, insightful, helpful video. 💞 For my Birthday 3 weeks ago, after coffee & cake at our fave Gdn centre, my best mate, his Mum and I checked out a stunning Orchid, safe enough for me to take home, as it was plastic. Killed too many Orchids in the past. 😱🥹💔 Never wanted one again. Each time I pass it in the kitchen, I’ve kissed it in awe & delight at “how realistic it is!” 🌺 Imagine my shock, horror yet delight to find a desiccated bloom on the counter last night!! 😱😍😳😍😂🤣😱 It’s ALIVE!! 😂😳😂 Covered in blooms!! 🌺🌸🌺 Perfect, shiny, green leaves. Naturally I hadn’t watered it in 17 days, as I thought it was fake!! 🤷♀️ Watering it now. And will study the topic more. She slipped in under false pretences 😂 But am over the moon!! 🦄🍄🦄
I fell in love with the look of orchids this spring and happily brought home my first beauty, a yellow and white orchid. I managed to murder this little orchid because I did not know how to care for her (RIP sweet orchid). I now have a small white baby who dropped her blooms, so here I am to learn the next steps to get her to rebloom! and thrive. Thank you very much for your very helpful & timely information!
I killed orchids too. My step-mom says they are easy... I still killed them. I would buy the prettiest at Trader Joes and once the blossoms died, it would whither away... I bought a Orchida pot from Lechuza... (German company) and my orchid is going on 3 years old! I want to buy more, now that I see your method. Found your channel tonight... I used to kill everything... but my garden is my sanctuary... 3rd year of trial and error. I already have tomatoes this year (San Diego). I have a bricked in patio, so it's all containers outside (and fruit trees in Lechuza pots) and hydroponics indoor (Aerogardens)... This is the first year I am having a ton of success... NEED MORE ORCHIDS! So pretty... Oh, and I haven't killed my gardenias ... Thanks for all the tips!!
Thanks for the guide. I just transplanted my orchids to a 7” clear pots with fresh wood chips. Hopefully this year i have better orchid plant than last year. I also bought a good plant light for the coming cold weather
Thank U ! Very informative and straight to the point. I just lost my Orchid virginity and bought me 2 of them for the first time. Really hope they will last using your watering method.
Question. I have the option of using city tapwater with plenty of chlorine or my distilled reverse osmosis. I wish you had mentioned when, how often, and how much to fertilize. I have orchid fertilizer, but not sure how often to use it. Right now mine are not blooming. I hope you see this question and will quickly make a short video on it. I love orchids. Thanks so much for all of your informative, gardening videos, which I love!
I received an orchid plant on my birthday, March 6, 2014. Not knowing about this particular plant or watching your video.. I replanted it from its very small pot into a much larger one so as to allow its roots system to fan out, they appeared very bunched up. I also placed it the container having a soil formulated specifically for orchids. I’m wondering here.. I was watering it once a week by saturating the soil with water until it was running out of the plug hole at the bottom of the container, allowing all the water to exit before placing it back in the window. After watching your video.. I’m assuming the wet soil will provide the proper amount of water retention so the roots can absorb this. And since I’m doing this on a weekly basis rather than two weeks, that I should be ok here?? The plant looks very healthy. Any suggestions as to what I should change here? I’d really appreciate it because it means so much to me. Thanks. Great video 👍
thank you for your infromative video, so you don't feed your orcids? My 16 year old just got her 1st one and we are trying to learn all we can. So much info but many different opinions on what to do. Thanks
LOL i had an orchid arrangement done for me of three orchids and there is green moss on top with no drainage so it’s hard Dx I dont think the orchid clear container has holes either .
Any thoughts on reusing the water it soaks in? My thinking is that this way I dont wash away any nutrients the bark has. I've been doing this for a few water cycles and the plant seems fine.
I have terra cotta pots and can't see bottom roots. Ive had orchids for years and in winter (more sun in south window), I water once a week. In summer (less light from south window). That's when the problem starts. Now, I have all lower leaves severly shriveled and leathery. Please anyone help me?
Thank you I have been well informed you say ten minutes then other person says five I guess I will go somewhere in between. But I thank you I got an orchard for my Birthday I love it💕 my daughter brought a beautiful purple one she knows how much I love flowers 🌺 but I just don’t want to kill it so I will subscribe to you so it lives a long time.
i live in a dry climate. we are in summer and in about 23 celsius so how often should i water them? i guess in winter i should water them every 2 weeks but i am wondering what happens on summer... thanks
Thanks for this! Short, clear, informative. I shall try this method! I have a question: do orchids really dislike being alone? That's what I have read. After having killed all my orchids, I have just received a new one, and only after 2 weeks, the flowers have started withering. It obviously doesn't feel well. Should I buy a pal so it is not alone? Thank you in advance!
I did this soaking method and my orchids still got rot. I drained them out very well after watering and did not get the crown or leaves wet. What happened???
THaNK YOU❤️❤️❤️ that’s easy 😊 than WEIRD ways of watering this ORCHIDS!, water w/onion, garlic, banana whatever, milk😂 COKE ! And my orchids dies instead,
Thank you. I’m praying for the best. I always end up killing them but I would do the ice cube method. I née knew I had to soak them so this is good to know.
Well then you should be in a botany class at a real school and not on RUclips for advice. Or maybe teaching one. At the very least you could provide the facts to me if I'm in error.😁
A short, but precisely on-topic video without any nonsense, thank you.
Thank you sooo much!!! You actually demonstrated how to water the orchid! I’m so appreciative!
Thank u for not making it a 15 minute talk

Exactly why I chose this one! Thank you
I also hate her.
I hate her adverts
I hate her voice..
She, could be porn star rather than plant 'specialist' hahaha lol
@@yorkshiremanjimFrom YorkshiremanHarry .That's why l chose it too .
BTW It's Yorkshire Day today Aug 1st

What did you do please
"They don't need a lot of water" *proceeds to fill the pot full of water* 😆
Did u miss the part where he drains the excess water after 15 minutes or
Ele quer dizer que não precisa ficar regando toda hora. Regue 1 vez a cada 2 semanas.

Wow! That was such a great help on how to water my orchids! Thanks so much!
Thank you! I have been watering my orchids wrong all these years. Now if I can only get them to flower again after all the blooms fall.
You're welcome! I was doing it wrong for Years also.
Thank you for making it short and sweet.
Thanks for the guide. I just transplanted my orchids to a 7” clear pots with fresh wood chips. Hopefully this year i have better orchid plant than last year. I also bought a good plant light for the coming cold weather

Very helpful video. Nice and easy explained 🙂👍👍
that is exactly how I water them now....in the past someone said to put a few cubes of ice. This was helpful.
How often should we water? Thank u ❤
When they are thirsty. The video explains it :)
When the roots turn white. That means they are dry and time to water
Nice and short and to the point, perfect video thank you
How many times per week do I have to water it
How do you water an orchid in a pot that has holes for their aerial roots?
Thanks for the information, However, how often should I do this?
As the video explains, when they are thirsty.

Great video 👍
Thank you for giving specific information 👍
Great video. Simple and common sense method. Thankyou for posting.
My orchids have sphagnum moss does this apply as well?
Nice tips.
Also don’t leave water collecting in the crown or leaves, it can cause harmful pathogens
thank you for your infromative video, so you don't feed your orcids? My 16 year old just got her 1st one and we are trying to learn all we can. So much info but many different opinions on what to do. Thanks
Mine has roots that are silvery but turning dark on the ends
How often should I do the filling up for 15 min and remove the water? Once a week or once every couple of week
How many times do I do this per a day?
How often do we water like this? How often will they start to wrinkle / not be green and plump
Thank you.shall I water twice a week?
LOL i had an orchid arrangement done for me of three orchids and there is green moss on top with no drainage so it’s hard Dx I dont think the orchid clear container has holes either .
I live in the U.K. and it’s winter. Do you think I should water it twice a week to be safe or once a week.
My orchid has many roots sticking out of the pot, should I leave them be or cut and plan them to another pot?
It looks like the plant was still dripping when u put it back. That means is gonna sit in water. Can u explain how it not promote rot?
Any thoughts on reusing the water it soaks in? My thinking is that this way I dont wash away any nutrients the bark has. I've been doing this for a few water cycles and the plant seems fine.
How about phalaenopsis on driftwood?
I have terra cotta pots and can't see bottom roots. Ive had orchids for years and in winter (more sun in south window), I water once a week. In summer (less light from south window). That's when the problem starts. Now, I have all lower leaves severly shriveled and leathery. Please anyone help me?
What should I do, I've forgotten an orchid in water for 5 hours?
How many times in a month do I need to water them ?
Always use soft water. Fertilize for better blooms
What is soft water please ?
How often do I water ??
Thank you I have been well informed you say ten minutes then other person says five I guess I will go somewhere in between. do you do this once a week, once every two weeks?
when they are thirsty.
Is it bad if there’s water on the leaf or do we need to dry them
What an awesome video 💖

Just look at their roots😊 they need some water if the roots are pale/ white greenish

Thank you. This was helpful! And to the point! :)
I'm bummed that I threw out orchids after they bloomed. I didn't know that they would come back if I watered them properly

Hey now orchid dont get a good soak bath & then dump out 😉 tysm for educating on phals!
Can you give me a stem of orchid?
so helpful I feel better about caring for one
Maybe I didn't hear it, but how often should you water them? I have a pot without drainage. - Thanks
He said he waters his about every 2 weeks.
Will this work, even if your orchids are in a moss base ?
Very interesting, thank you so much. I'll try to save mine.
How long do you soak them for?
