    I think this should keep being this way, they now have plenty of cool uses outside of cooling especially and even with good heat deletion you need tons of dupe labor, something youll be praying god and automating the hell out of base to get more of. "because of lag too".

    i mean yeah, it's stronger than before, but before it was basically useless. back in the days i tried chilling my oxygen with them and spend so much time tweaking it until it was ok to keep the oxygen and part of my base at normal temperature, and so much dupe time, that it would have been better to just push through and get a better heat deletion method.
    so who knows, maybe they will keep it that way, or tweak it slightly.

    Found your content from DSP and you’ve gotten me into ONI. Thanks heaps! Also what was your PHD topic?

      "Laboratory-numerical investigation of scale effects in granular slides" involved pouring sand down ramps and supercomputer simulations. :D

    In the old times ice makers were even more efficient.

      Oh really? I remember they didn't have an overheat temperature.

      I don't remember them ever changing the values before this update, and the wiki doesn't list any such changes, either. AFAIK this is the most efficient the Ice Maker has ever been.

    It makes less and less sense from an IRL pov... But fun to know.
    I would combine it with an aquatuner and a cooling loop going away I think.

    i wish the devs would add an ethanol gas turbine (a small turbine that doesn't produce much power, but doesn't need any plastic), or give the steam turbine the ability to accept ethanol gas, maybe at 80% power usage. this way ethanol could be used properly as a cooling solution.

    • @erisia_gaming

      I think there was a mod that actually adds Ethanol Steam Turbines (and others)... but I can't find it.

    Yeah I can't see any way Klei leaves this in its current state. You could have a long-term cooling loop in the first 30 cycles if you start with a Critter Ranching dupe, no plastic or radiation research required!

    • @NatanStarke
      @NatanStarke 2 месяца назад

      Only in a miniscule base anything closer to a real base this would just devour duoe time.

    • @LagiacrusHunter
      @LagiacrusHunter 2 месяца назад +2

      Lol maybe if you were to leave it open to the world for any dupe to come wandering in. I would just set up a bathroom, bed, food/O2 input, CO2 output, and trap one dupe inside to keep everything running.
      Like having a boiler operator who lives in the basement and manages the heating for the building.. but in reverse.

    could this make for a practical infinite refrigerator cooling solution?

    • @erisia_gaming
      @erisia_gaming  2 месяца назад

      Yes, but you would need to use it to cool down a Thermo Aquatuner or Regulator, as the Water needed for the Ice Maker to run continuously won't melt below 3° C. But you could use this set up to cool a Thermo Aquatuner instead of using a Steam Turbine if you want. This would be best combined with the new Nectar as it's the highest capacity coolant until Super Coolant now.

      @alamrasyidi4097 2 месяца назад

      @@erisia_gaming i want to avoid having to afford the extra power requirement for an aquatuner or regulator, though. what about using the freshly frozen ice for the infinite refrigerator first and then use it to cool other stuff? (which doesnt need to go below -18c)

    • @erisia_gaming
      @erisia_gaming  2 месяца назад

      You could make the -20° C Ice and then transport it very carefully to some room where it runs around metal tiles, but I think the temperature would be too close to the -18° C threshold for "Deep Freeze" for such a setup to be practical. Thermo Aquatuner for a freezer is now twice as power efficient as before if Nectar is used.

    Just wondering, but do refrigerators also delete heat?

    • @erisia_gaming
      @erisia_gaming  2 месяца назад

      I think it depends on what you have inside, but the heat generation can be lower than the amount the contents inside are cooled. I've seen this forum post but it's quite old: forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/136779-return-of-the-borg/

      This works in the base game too, the Ice Maker got updated in general.
