Test Yamaha Ténéré 700 - Deep mud, sand, gravel and street!

- Gas-O-Loon performs a full test of the Ténéré 700 in different environments: Tarmac, gravel roads and enduro tracks. There are many Ténéré test videos out there. This one is longer, but manages to go further into detail and farther into the deep mud than most others!
Best sentence to sum up the T7 on youtube “friendly but not boring”. If we can get over our egos, this is what 99% of adv riders ever need. Personally what decided things for me was the ergonomics (I am 190cm and 86kg), this thing feels like it was designed just for me.Excellent review, I agree with all your conclusions, keep up the great work!
Wish my uncle Ulf was still with us . Unfortunately he lost his battle with cancer in '08 . He lived In Kungsbacka and lived to ride motorcycles . Would love to have had the chance to get one of these bikes and go riding with him . Still plan on traveling back to Sweden to see some of the places and people I met when visiting my mother's family . Nice to hear that Swedish accent again .
This bike is one the very short list of future bikes that I might buy when 1. they are available in the U.S. and 2. I scrape the cash together to afford it . Great video , thanks guys .
Watching reviews, trying to find out more about T700- this is by far more informative and helping yet, you rull them all - simple bike, great fun, excellent price tag - thanks!
I like how we sweds score things. If we give the score ok or in rare occasions good, it's high end. God forbid if we say something is excellent or superb, nothing is ever that flawless.
This was a perfectly adequate review. Lots of interesting information, not just numbers. Thanks! 😉
A very refreshing review from two down-to-earth riders who know what they're talking about
Great review! Yamaha created a gem of a engine with that CP2 that is absolutely brilliant in a mid-sized adventure bike like the T700!
Good review and I like the fact it was tested by two hard KTM 1090 riders who at the end of the day said: I had no less fun on this T700. BTW, I have made a deposit to get one of the first to be delivered in Canada. I am also 6-3, so very happy to hear that the bike fits for us right off the shelf.
Almost a midget, I'm Normal height @ 6'-5" 🤣😂😜
Very nice review, and thanks for taking it on some real offroad and not just on the perfectly maintained gravel ones, this means you actually tested the bike 🙂👍🏻
THIS is a credeible, unbiased and thourough review. There are so many biased and unsubstanciated reviews out there. Thanks guys. You are my size and happy to hear the bike works for tall people. You are the kind of buddies I would ride with.
That's My concern, I'm 2 m tall & about 205kg in wait and I Was concerned that I'd Be Cramped on the Bike...
@@ronaldmasterbud1551 At 200 kg you will need to upgrade the suspension for sure.
@@ExplorerJude Let's try this Again, about 105 kg. ( 225 lbs) & 2m height. ( 6'-5" )
This is the best review I've seen on this bike. Happy to see that the ergonomics are great for taller riders, I am equal to your height and it is rare to find that out of the factory. I am living in Canada and have to wait until 2021. My wife is Swedish so we just might have to move there ;)
I am in Alberta and I am looking forward to mine this spring
@@oic1968 in America Still a Looooong Ways Away !!!
I felt that the suspension is too stiff (it's very jumpy, on & off road) but I agree about the windscreen, it's amazingly good, no buffeting. It's an honest bike but for the old school folks because it has no electronics except ABS, I like it like this :)
Other brands will be trying to do T7’s next few years, buyers showing they know how to use a clutch, throttle & rear brake together & don’t want $$ expensive rider-aids.
An excellent honest review, Magnus says so much with so few words.
Excellent Video!! One of the bests reviews I have seen about this bike!! Congrats!!!
this is the best review ive seen. i own one and its what i would have said. suspention is fully adjustable front and rear rebound and compretion, makes a big difference when set up. dont no why people take stock tyres off road there just not good. well done most ktm riders say this bike is crap, but as you no its a fun bike.
Thanks guys, that was well done. 👍
Great video 🏁👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Great presentation backed by honest info, thks.
Super review. Nice to see the bike on different surfaces and get your opinions. And aren't those trails beautiful in the autumn.
Got mine two days ago...i really love it.
How is the throttle response? I found my 2016 Africa Twin to be snatchy and I really hope the T7 is smoother
@@ronbosgra8230 the tenere is very smooth, i find its better than the AQ. I have driven both.
@@fabianbeyerle and what about highway performance? I loved the torque on my NC700X, but on highways it's underpowered. The AT had a bit of a front wheel wobble/light feeling. Anything noticeable on the T7 like wobbles or crosswinds? I'm not trying to let you fault the bike, but I'm trying to compare your feelings of the T7 to that of what I know from the AT/NC.
@@ronbosgra8230 the power of the T feels not more less than the power of the AT. At the German Autobahn it haf a Vmax of 200+. The T has so much Torque i find compared to the HP. The best thing i find is the weight of the bike, with akrapovic under 200kg with a full tank, so when its windy i think its no Problem for the Bike. I just love the Tenere. My Brother has a KTM super adventure R with 150hp and he is very impressed of the feeling from my Tenere, too.
@@fabianbeyerle thanks for replying. I too ride the German Autobahn (from Holland). Because my AT broke down, I traded it for CrossTourer. My wife needs the car and until she can lease, I'll (have to) stick to the CT. This is a 285kg V4 130hp beast, great for my work commute and holiday/weekend trips, but I really prefer 2 cilinders engines and the occasional fire road. The T7 being this light is good news! Financially I can only buy a used one, so it'll probably be a year or two before I'll be able to get my hands on one.
Excellent review...really enjoyed hearing your thoughts. I have the previous Tenere, I like it a lot and have spent quite a bit of time and money on it, so I need to be sure that the new Tenere 700 is better! Cheers, Steve
Excellent review,thanks!
Great review...I'm considering this bike, and your review helped a lot.....
Great review. But maybe not so close to an airport ha ha next time 👍👍
Dam good review, really enjoyed it. Beautiful country you ride in!
Goddamm Dutch and Skandinavians. Speak better English than us Brits...
Great review guys, thanx.
Love this bike.
Thanx!

It helps that your language is about 50% saxon, right?
Yeah a guy from there invented the saxophone , he's name was Sax I think. Get the connection?

Excellent vid boys - entertaining and informative!
Thanks for providing your good review!
Great review. Just a shame about background noise when you and Magnus are discussing answers to your questions about the bike
Honest and straight to the point review. Well done guys. Thank you
Excellent review! Including the dialogue format around prepared quisetions is a great move. Time to quit the day job!
Very good review! You guys did an awesome job with explaining everything. Thank you.
Good stuff, loved your down to earth chat!
Great review. I own 790 but I loved the test ride on T7 very much too 👍
Great review guys!! I totally agree about what you are saying and I don't even tried the bike yet!! thanks again!!
It’s a perfect bike!!! I hope one day I can buy!! Tenere700!!
me too my frien
Thanks !
Road posts and even trail ribbons were yellow and blue, Swedish colors. Would love this bike!
Thanks for your beautiful work on this video 👍
Thanks buddy
I can't wait until these hit the US market.
Only 47 more years to go 👍🏻
Excellent review
Every vid I see on this bike the rear is kicking too much...more shock rebound compression is needed, as far as the forks go get some race tech gold valves w 1 extra bleed hole drilled in them w a higher spring rate. It will be butter smooth. I own a shop and have been wrenching on bikes for over 30 yrs and used to race pro in Baja and in the USA, enduro and desert racing. I cant wait for this bike to come to the US! You can have that KTM 790.. KTM = Keep Taking Money. I work on KTM's and ride Yamahas ;) I would also like to see the rear shock dimensions and see if a shortened YZ or WR shock would fit.... Oh yea!
Great review. Like the honesty of you both.
We don't have it yet in the USA, but Yamaha will likely sell alot of these. In my area bikes such as XT's, XRs, DR's are popular. I ride an 89 XT600 and love it, but this Tenere 700 is very attractive - could be my next bike ! I would prefer red/white.
Very nice review.
Thanks for this video.
Great review, answered all my questions. Got one on order. Think I'll be investing in an after market bash plate as some of the trials I ride are a bit rocky.
Great review !
Thanks
Great review but I had great difficulties hearing you because of considerable background noise when you sat together to discuss the bike
Excellent review ,, great job ,, will done
This bike is likely going the be next I'll buy. I want to get practical all-rounder and according to pretty much everyone it seems to be... OK, but still not boring bike. That's actually pretty damn hard thing to do. Especially for that price point. Only things that I'm looking in addition currently are if there are Tiger 800's or Africa Twins used for good price. But if new, then it's pretty much granted that it's T7
You put out a great vid here. Just please work on the sound. Keep up the good work as it is appreciated by many.
Good review , thanks guys
Thanks for watching!
Ive subscribed and am looking fwd to the next review.
So many criticisms for such a great bike! Don't agree.
Great post. The bike is very good but let's not forget, bikes like this are designed with the aftermarket industry in mind. Aftermarket improvements such as a the larger fuel tank, rear suspension upgrade and better tires are certainly being developed at the moment. You don't want to change too much on the bike, otherwise, it may have been better too purchase the Tenere 1200.
What would be great if you could do a long hard ride over a couple of days to test the limits of the bike?
All bikes are getting better with aftermarket parts 😉. And tyres are a point to change anyway, depends on your riding area and nothing expensive. A bit of protection and maybe other suspension springs and I think it's pretty good to go
Great review. Best on RUclips.
thankyou for your facts and candor.
The aeroplanes sound good!
...Good video from Spain
Got subscribed :), how nice are your legal offroad possibilities in Sweden!!! Is it everywhere in Sweden or Skandinavia possible? Would love to visit Sweden when my tenere arrives
Hrrrm. Not really legal maybe... But in most places, especially in the north so few people and endless forests. Nobody cares up there.
Dash board is like Amazon Kindle... Huge!!
8:19 21km/l = 49mpg (US), not terrible.
That's pretty great for a bike with an upright seating position / bad aero
Sweet Bike!
Ciao top review, one question... can u tell me who produce the rear "bag" installed on your tenere ? . Many Thanks. Gianluca - Milano
Giant Loop
Nice review. It seems that the T7 can do everything the 1269 SA can do but easier. Except if you want 160 hp, you could buy this one, isn’t it?
does anyone know if they will make this with a bigger tank or can you buy a bigger fuel tank? my xt660z has a much bigger tank and this at only 16l is absolutely silly
Great review... It's available in 3 colors, not 4, and the Front ABS cannot be switched off, only the rear.
Don't be ignorant.
Both wheels are ABS free when you turn it off.
@mld People shouldn't talk about things they do not own just because they read something on the internet.
I have a T7 by the way.👍🏻 Not just saying. 😁
Guys, please buy a couple of mic's for doing this.
When comparing bikes that are pretty close in every way and nothing stands out as a must have or a can't have, the deciding factor with my is always going to be reliability, because breaking down on bike is way worse than breaking down with a car or truck. That means the Yamaha or Honda will be my choice, and always has been. Those are the only brands of bikes I have owned or probably will own.
They also have lot's of dealers around should I need one.
Mic on shopping list. And a sum-up farther from an airport... :-)
@@gas-o-loon7522 Not a big problem .
Var är ni nånstans? Ser att ni är i stockholm. Det är jag med :-)
The sad thing for me is that European Dealerships put their locations strategically in busy areas. I live in the country and the country is where Yamaha puts theirs. plus I don’t need anything fancy, the simpler the better...for me anyway.
Tenere 700 vs Husky 701/701LR? I have a dirt bike background but need to ride long distances on roads to find any dirt. Want to con sider long ADV rides which include long highway miles at 75 mph.... Since you had a 701, I'd appreciate your opinion one the two...
Go for the Tenere. Super versatile package. Nice 2-cyl engine.
Great review.
What is your opinion of the gearbox ?
I have owned a few yamahas from new, and at the moment I am having fun on a Honda CRF 250 Rally. Its of course a low power bike but ideal for where I live. The big difference I notice on the Honda is how much smoother and quieter the gearbox is, especially gear changing.
Gearbox was totally ok. Noticed a slight notchiness a few times, but no real issue.
Good vid.
Great review... Have you tried the 701?..i like the Yamaha.. But too much road oriented I think?.. Or am I wrong?
The 701 is a total purpose-built bike, it is an off-road weapon with the ability to handle on road well. That means weight saving, it's a lot lighter than a Teneré because it's purposely designed to be thrown around off-road.
A Teneré is like an SUV of the bike world. It's an all terrain touring bike, capable both on and off road but not purely designed for either. If you want to throw a bike around in the bush, the 701 is the better choice of the two, but if you want to do a bit of dual purpose, dual sport riding in comfort and have a bit of gear on and better range, the Teneré is a better choice.
@@Kaegis thanks for the reply 🙏.

15:20. Turning into a plane review.
Nice
What's the weight full of fuel? Waiting to see the USA version!
Want this red and white in the US. Throwback like.
I think: 204 Kg
But would you do a 3 or 4 K road trip on this bike? Would it be comfortable enough? How does the power compare to a NC700X ?
Long trips = no problem. This will take you to Mongolia if you like! Never tried a NC700X.
This bike is also for the road, so I see nobody refers to how it behaves and feels on highway at speed ( 120 - 150 km/h...). Is it strongly affected by the lateral winds ?
And - how is the headlight at night ? Is it really good, or useless ?
It's absolutely easy until top speed. But you feel the 21" front wheel really at 100+ while cornering. But it's okay, the way to go for offroad :)
I have tried lots of different "dual purpose" tyres for mud. Not sure there is one that is great for mud plus tarmac/gravel. I'm just resigned to having to make a choice. Or did I miss something? Another thing, Is there anyway to lower the seat a couple of centimeters?
Rio Helmi yes a lower seat is available as well as a lowering kit to lower the rear
@@Advcrazy Thanks for the info
Great bike all round but for me I would still buy a KTM690ER because it is 100lbs (45kg) lighter with better power to weight ratio, FAR better suspension! traction control, off road ABS and better fuel consumption. Also it is easy to fit extra tanks to give the longest fuel range of all adventure bikes. There is hardly any difference in the price NOW that Yamaha has raised the price and KTM has lowered theirs with offers currently across the range.
Cool bags. I haven’t read the thread so don’t know if you answered this question nine times but, what are they?

Hi thanks for review; do you think you could travel 2 up with it without having the wife complaining about comfort ?
I think you could, but do a test ride if you can!
It's much more about your wife than a motorcycle. Some of them can be a passenger on a supersport bike for 2000kms, some of them can't make it more than 50kms on any bike...
iamandreja : we did a 1500km trip together on my CB500X. She was ok but she would like a little bit more comfortable seat.
Trekky:
I think that seat on 500X is a little bit more comfortable than on a T700. I don't know about the footrest position.
Would you recommend it for someone starting in trail bikes or not?
Absolutely. So easy to ride. But suspension is less plush than a modern enduro of course.
Great review guys, thanks!!
Ok so I just figured out you’re in Sweden. What’s the deal with riding off road there? I’m on the west coast of norway and looking at buying a T700 in spring....but I don’t know where I can ride it off road here!! But Sweden ain’t sooo far away 😝
Riding real off road / trails is formally not allowed here. But if you go to places outside the urban areas , especially in the north or really anywhere close to the norwegian border, very few people will care. So few people. Just keep a low profile whenever you are close to houeses and people and never disturb or destroy. Use common sense!
Hej, var är dessa vägar ni kör?
Runt Arlanda!
What I learned about the bike from this review, in a nutshell: Everything about the bike is average. Nothing on it is awesome. Everything is built with the budget in mind. Functionality exists, but not "great" functionality. If you want options and good-to-excellent-to-premium quality fixtures, buy the Adventure 790 R.
The T7 reminds me of a Wal-mart mountain bike. It's sort of what it purports to be, but, isn't, really.
Riding position is awesome, the engine is awesome, the suspension is awesome... It's a great bike considering the price!
Compared to the KTM 790 Adventure R what is your opinion?
I have not made aproper test drive with the 790 yet! It is in the plans though.
@matty d Thank you. Have you ridden both?
@matty d i own the 790 and i tried the T700, it was really fun. Few days before i tried the Tiger 900 rally pro and it was boring as hell sorry to triumph, i really don't like that bike. But to compare the T7 vs the 790 adventure R you are completely correct.
The Yamaha looks and feels cheaper, if you look at the plastics and built quality (no bolt on subframe btw!) and if you take in account all the electronics (if you need them that's another discussion) the slipperclutch, ride by wire (cruise control), illuminated knobs, rally mode and 94 hp that feels like 120.., tft dash, and premium suspension that makes the 790 adventure R really cheap!
I really don't get why people are not coming to this conclusion? I don't think thats better or people need it but its premium quality. I think 10k for such a basic bike is not cheap compared to what you get on the 790 adventure.
Now to the riding experience, i think the T7 is even better balanced than the 790 adventure and a slightly more agile. Ergonomics are better and also the wind protection feels better ( for real i treid everything and i'm sick of the buffeting on highway speeds on that 790).
The engine is SUPER linear which makes it softer predictable and less exhausting but also less exiting than the 790. The T7 is jerky as the reviewer said on this video in the first initial flip of the throttle and it bothered me a little.
It doesnt feel underpowered but significantly less power than 790 in rally mode (batshit crazy that mode :p).
The suspenion on the ktm is superior and more stable but also good on the T7. I prefer the T7 offroad personally because i like the standing position and balance more (and the fact that the bike chugs along as with the 790 that starts to stutter in low revs....
On the street the 790 is alot more exciting and fun to me since it's a little hooligan machine :P the slipperclutch and (cornering abs/Tc) make it amazing to handle the power.
I'm also not used not to have a slipperclutch so my rear wheel was sliding alot (supermoto :p) while gearing down agressively
How would the suspension feel when loaded
We never really loaded it. Only like 15kg in the bag. That was no problem. Riding with passenger on tarmac I suspect you are better off with something heavier, like a GS.
Available in the U.S.?
Soon , The largest least important market ! We (collectively) don't dig the cool bikes and cars enough to buy premium leading edge units. Or at least what market analysts say .
Well, what I can tell they are not too impressed and won't be changing out from their 1290's. I agree with their somber dispositions on this review that I will stick to my 1090.
