    Sounds like Yamaha hit a home run with this bike.

    • @TommyNitro
      @TommyNitro 4 года назад +46

      @@Bouldertag It's also waaaaay cheaper than the ktm, and I will take the yamaha reliability over ktm any day. I don't care about ridiculous power. I'm not racing. Good grunt down low and easily exceeding highway speeds with a proven engine = a big win.
      The bike is fine. From what I have watched, many are liking this, especially with the bang for the buck it provides.

    • @TommyNitro
      @TommyNitro 4 года назад +9

      @@Bouldertag The 790 is like $2.5-3.5k more than the t7. So yes. I could spend $2k and still save ~$1k compared to the ktm....not including maintenance.
      "Ok you did not read" (to quote you, except that I did)...that I'm not going to be racing the bike... If I want to go that fast off road, I'll get a dedicated dirt bike. I would need zero suspension mods. At minimum $2k saved over the ktm.

      I understand.. For me I am fustrated and wanted more form Yamaha. It is still a great bike. Thanks for your opinions and will consider it on my decisions.

      I loved this engine in my FZ-07. Wish the rest of the bike was as good as the engine. This Tenere 700 may be the answer. Hopefully there are some wide comfortable seats out there for it when it comes to the states.

    Great review . Will look into that rear spring as we are about the same weight . Can't wait until the Tenere 700 comes out in June here in Northern California . Unfortunately there aren't as many places to ride offroad near my house so I would have to travel 100 miles or more for any real adventure , eventhough there's trails everywhere in the hills where I live none are motorcycle friendly . Look forward to the next video .

      Hi Robert, not sure what you weigh but to get the best out of this bike I strongly recommend going to a reputable suspension specialist and get them to measure the sag (I'll leave it simple) when you loaded and ready to go on an adventure and then obtain the correct spring weight. Getting the suspension tuned for what you want to do is the best money you can spend. For spring replacement it won't be much, more work can go to $1000 AU

      @@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV- My sizing is very similar (5' 10" or 178 cm/95 kgs). I've had my suspension updated last year on my KLX400 (DRZ400) and it made a huge difference. So, I reckon the heavier spring for the T7 will be something I definitely get done. Thanks for the advice, muchly appreciated. 👍😁

    As I continue to watch this great video, time after time, I am more and more convinced that this could very well be my choice of a bike. Your review maes so much sense to me, as you emphasize the right things in a bike, simplicity and reliability and I think I could manage the excess weight over a 701 OR 690 and for 3.000 euros less, it makes so much sense.

    Nice Review. Really waited for this bike so long, I ended up getting a Husky 501. However, I want something that can do longer trips and some light 2 up duty. The only essential electronic gizmo I wish it had was optional cruise control which is why the KTM 790 looks attractive. Overall I've always been happy with Yamaha and currently have an XT250 which gets ridden more than the Husky. Cannot wait to try one this Spring once the snow is melted here in Wisconsin. Cheers!

    Loved this review. Logical, explicit and organized. "What more do ya want?" I've been very impressed with another bike that's just going into production, the Husqvarna Norden 901. And it's been years, no decades, since I was very active on a Bultaco Pursang and others of that era. But the old Yamaha DT250 was the standout in terms of reliability, as I recall, thus another Yamaha all these years hence is the competitor to the Huskey. So, thanks for this comprehensive presentation and may all your rides be joyful there in the Down Under.

      Sounds familiar. My roommate, a bike mechanic, back then in college (late sixties) had the Frontera. We'd trade out with others who had an Ossa Stiletto, a CZ, Hodaka Super Rat and Penton 6 Days Trials bike. Seems like each make had its own Achilles heel, so yes, it was good to have a mechanic in the ride group. The Husqvarna (KTM really) is the only old make still around.

    I am riding a KTM 690 enduro r, and KTM in general for the last 20 Years, and you just made want me a Tenere. For the sake of the features you mentioned at the very beginning of your video. It reminded me of the KTM 640 Adventure.
    And of course, because Yamaha just got it wright again. Thx

      I too have a KTM690 in the garage and before that I had a KTM640 Adventure that I sold to my mate Mal and you can see it on this channel in the desert. I'd have to agree. The only thing I don't think Yamaha nailed was the fuel range that would have been useful for outback Australia. You need a solid 450 ks. But I thinkin the T700 will be saved by after market products. Mind you, I don't need that huge range very often.

    The best review I have seen about this bike. Thank you! I am planing a trip through Central and South America and the Ténéré 700 is one of the bikes I am considering fir my trip. It’s simple to operate with no fancy electronics. Perfect for traveling through third world countries. The electronics on the 1250GS and Africa Twin are nice, but if it breaks down in the middle of no where or some small down in the boonies, good luck finding a mechanic with the know how, skills, and specialized equipment to fix it.
    My biggest concern about this bike is the idiotic small tank it has. 4.2 gals might be great for a dirt bike, but not to do long adventure touring. In some places in the world you can fo on for hours and hours not seeing a gas station anywhere. Yes you can carry an extra tank, like in the video, but that tank is taking space that other important gear could use better.
    I get that Yamaha wanted to save weight, but I think that Yamaha should offer a Adventure Touring mode with a large capacity thank. Kawasaki did just that with the KLR650, with a capacity of 6.1 gallons. And yet, the T7 is only 4 lbs lighter than the KLR650 base model. 6 lbs lighter than the KLR ABS model. By that comparison, the Yamaha with a 4.2 gal tank should be a few more pounds lighter than the KLR. At a minimum 10-11 lbs lighter. Why that much? According to Science and Technology Desk Reference a gallon of gas weights 6 pounds. The T7 carries a hair short of 2 gallons less fuel.
    I do not ride like you did in this video. My style is more like what I call the “transcontinental style.” My travels involved a lot of road touring but when the pavement ends and the dirt road start, I keep on going with no problem and a bike more than capable to handle that type of road.
    Being a “Trail Warriors” (as I call them) who ride like if the devil was chasing them and do jumps and go over boulders, logs, and other crazy terrain is not for me for sure. It does not look like fun.
    Even though the Africa Twin relies a lot in electronics and that can become a big problem if the bike breaks down, like I’ve mentioned earlier, the 6.5 gallon tank in the sport adventure is definitely a huge plus for me.
    What do you think?

    For those who live in areas with hundreds of miles of wilderness dirt roads this bike will be a dream. I live in such an area and hope to get one when they become available in the U.S. Will sell my DL1000A.

    Thank god it's not a vlog of some guy showing us the road through his view as he rides the bike he should be showing us.

      A simple bike that delivers in so many areas, but needs some suspension work for heavier riders who like to go in the rough stuff.
