Yeah, I would love him anyways. He is gorgeous. With all the new fin types and colors I hope someone eventually gets fish like him that won't marble. Can you imagine what people would pay?? I have a little yellow, white, and black plakat but he is mostly black now. That is how the big bouncy ball bounces.
... It is fun watching them change though.
@LJ Aquatics Yeah, marble bettas tend to change colors throughout their lives, and tend to turn solid colors as they age. It isn't guaranteed though,. people are breeding them for the colors to be permanent. That is what Koi bettas are, but those ones don't have blue

My male halfmoon betta has a hungry dance that he does. It looks kinda like what the domestic male betta was doing but only at food time :)

The blue and white one’s are just incredibly beautiful.
Its amazing how gorgeous these betta patterns have gotten over the last 10 years or so, I remember when I was a kid and you could only find red bettas and there was no tail variants either. Females were hardly available either and if they were the coloration was usually fairly plain, but now the females are (in my opinion) more gorgeous than the males often times.
Do you feel the same about guppies and all the amazing varieties now?
@@SimplyBetta Yes guppies as well! Both species now have so many distinct color variations it's hard for me to even keep them straight. I have some Endlers myself which are confused with guppies quite often, a few of the ones I have like blue stars or red bars are considered a semi-wild (bred for their colors) strain, but then I also have some rainbow tiger endlers which were bred with guppies, they're 1" or smaller like an Endler but have a spotted pattern like some fancy guppies do.
A lot of people online seem to dislike these types of fish that're bred for brilliant colors and they'll say they look gaudy, but in my opinion these colors were always hiding under the surface of the fish and in captivity that beauty can shine through without fear of predators.

Just wow... they are all stunning fish. I get my first two bettas this week... a pair of dragon bettas. Which means that I will have to get on my bike and get my dual aquascaped tank setup sorted out and get them into it.
I had a normal veiltail once but she was beautiful. Her body was a very pale (almost whitish yellow) peach color, her fins were yellow, and she had the most bizarre trait of purple flecks on her sides. She stayed in a tank with a male half moon betta that was dark green and black with mint colored lower fins. They never fought and even had a system of eating food. She ate the food that was at the bottom and he ate the food at the top.
I still think that agreement between them was funny :P

The blue and white male is gorgeous! Congrats to bigcitybettas for the find. This is also the first time I’ve seen someone getting some of the ‘wilds’, pretty cool. Thanks for sharing! It’s always great to see what variations are out there and BCBs was also probably relieved to see that their fish arrived ok.

My betta, Snow, was the same color as your white and blue. I fell in love with him because of his color. I went on a trip and was gone for about a week and a half and I came back and he was dark blue. He stayed that color. He is healthy. This happened 7 months ago. He is a funny boy. He loves when I come to his tank and visit him. He has never flared up at me like my others have. He seems to be more of a loving fish then a fighter. I dont know if fish can get lonely but he seems to act weird when I dont visit him.
I want to say I’m so happy I found your channel! I don’t breed bettas but I love finding channels of people who have a passion for breeding and caring for animals that aren’t commonly kept and bred by most people. I personally breed a few different species of snakes and English show mice. I love watching your videos while tending to my own critters. And I applaud you for not letting naysayers who don’t understand how we may keep our animals and call us cruel get to you (I keep mice in plastic bins in a rack system)
Also I would have totally kept that marble boy for myself, holy wow he’s beautiful! I look forward to your future videos!
Hi @RH_Factor Reptiles, I appreciate the comment! I do get a lot of flack for my setup and it used to bother me - doesn’t anymore though. Now I realize that most people either don’t realize I have a breeding setup or they don’t know what that really entails.
I don’t know a lot about snakes, but I love mice! What variety do you breed? I really want a hairless mouse, or one of those Hereford fancy mice. They’re so dang adorable.
Simply Betta I do breed Herefords! Only chocolate though right now and I’m still trying to build my numbers back up. I had a horrible outbreak of some pneumonia strain go through my mice two months ago. I think my newest rat brought it in. Rats are far more resilient and I had no idea. Anywho besides Herefords I bred pure English champagne, chocolate, black, black tan, and chocolate tan and I’m using show stock to create a show line of agouti, cinnamon, and blue agouti with little pet shop mice I started with. I’m really impressed at much improvement a few generations made but still much work to do!
Simply Betta what state are you in again? If you’re close enough I’d definitely love to give you some Herefords once I get more and everyone is healthy again!

Simply Betta Unfortunately I am in Georgia and we cannot ship mice through FedEx like fish and snakes :( they must be shipped via air and it can be pricey. I will ask the mouse club members if there is a breeder close to you though :) and yes, tans have beautiful rich red/orange bellies with any standard top coat color. My favorite are black tans. The contrast on a show quality black tan is breathtaking!

Question (and forgive me if you covered this in a previous video): how do you cycle your tanks? The domestic bettas remind me of those fancy department store floral bedsheets -- they are beautiful.
I like the comparison! For my big tanks I cycle the old fashioned way: seed a filter with used filter media and let it run on a tank with no fish in it. Add waste to decay and create ammonia and wait for the cycle to finish

The blue and white make was stunning.
I went to petco and saw a rack of bettas for sale. Some of the ones who looked wild (especially the females with the dull beige color) were overlooked and I could tell they'd been there for a while. I picked out the saddest one. She was scrawny and floating on her side (found out it was a swim bladder issue) and barely moving. The water was nearly gone, cloudy and filled with rotting debris. At first glance I thought she was dead, but she wiggled a bit when I picked up her container. It was the most tragic thing to see her like that, and I decided right then and there to take her home. The store gave her to me for $1, and I bought medicine, food, and a tank for her. I was pretty sure she wouldn't make it, but I treated her anyway so at least she could have a decent and comfortable "rest of her life" free from the confines of a dirty little container in an overcrowded chain store. At first, she was having a really tough time eating due to the fact that she could only swim sideways near the surface of the water, so I hand-fed her every single meal until her condition began to improve. I got her a resting leaf, which was invaluable in her road to recovery since she could not swim downwards for a long time. I cannot even begin to describe my happiness when her swim bladder issue eventually cleared up and she was able to swim around unhindered. The poor girl also had a nasty case of fin rot, which resolved eventually as well. I was totally shocked that she lived for 5 years, because all my friends who got bettas had them die within weeks of their purchase, even when they started out perfectly healthy. I started to think that she was immortal! Nah, probably my friends just didn't take care of them and got bored or something. That blue marble was insane looking! So beautiful.

Some day I want to go back and find another like her to rehabilitate. They deserve so much better than the little plastic dirty cups they're forced to live in at the store. The blue and white one is gorgeous and all three look beautiful. Here we don't own any fish, but we have some wild fish that live in the ditches in our neighborhood after a flooding from heavy from a hurricane. I thought they would die after a wile, especially after the summer heat, but they are still here. They look like the first female fish shown in the video, but very pale kinda transparent looking and the older ones have a black spot on their lower front. So small and tiny xd

Where can I get wild bettas?
Do you have a species in mind? I have some smaragdina guitar pairs, and hopefully soon I'll have some mahachai. Big City Bettas is working on apiapi (now extinct in the wild) and she will have mahachai and some more varieties in the future. The Wet SPot Tropical Fish has some varieties on occasion. Just depends on what you're looking for : )

I still need to do some research on them. Are they like your normal pet store bettas where males have to be kept separate?
It is very sad, but the more people raising them in captivity means a higher chance of the species surviving after all! Just like the white cloud minnow. WIlds are a little more forgiving than domestic bettas, they can usually be kept in pairs or a small group.
I'm gonna have a bunch of aquariums to full here soon. and the wilds have caught my attention as of late. So...yeah, I really want one. I'll contact you when I get some of my new tanks in and ready.

I have 3 bettas: peewee, Freddy Mercury, and masuko. Masuko translates to trout kid because she's gray with pink and spotted fins which make her look like a trout. What kind of betta breed is she? She was just labeled as a baby female. She sometimes displays stripes with her mood: = when startled and ||| when she sees the other bettas. Now peewee is a red plakat and Freddie is a red/ blue double tail and neither show stripes. Why is that?
The horizontal stripe is a stress response, maybe she was a little scared :)
The wild ones are hardier than most bettas
