Getting ready to put down new vinyl plank flooring in our house. Had a good idea of what to do but never hurts to make sure you do it right.
Thank you for the info, very useful especially the extra 10%. Never thought about that. 👍 👍 👍
Yep thanks a lot. This was a big help. I also had to step on my tape measure to keep from it moving in my large rooms. No doubt cheap tape measure 🤔🙂.
Thank you guy for your simplicity!

I came for flooring and learned math equations. Thank you guy!
Haha. Thanks a lot!
@@TheFixerHomeRepair Putting math aside for minute I have a question about flooring. I am wanting to re-floor an outside front porch. I have no idea what type of wood is on it now but it is tongue and groove. Would Hickory or Oak be a good choice or treated pine be better? I don't know if Hickory or Oak is sold treated or not. I plan to go back with it being tongue and groove. Thanks!
Thank you so much you’re a genius
😁 Thanks for watching!

Thanks man i had a contractor measure my room is 11×16 he said that was 220 foot i i knew something was off cause he dident measure it like you instead he did corner to corners long ways
You don’t need to add the 0 for the 10% so for example 148x0.1=the 14.8 sq ft extra you would need. Now on a huge job you would only add 5%let’s say 5k-10k sq ft 5% is more then enough on that size job depending on the material
Thank you so much for this video and information. I'm training to sell, and of course, measure out , flooring and how much a client needs in their space. TY. New subscriber. MHD
Very happy to help out, Charlotte! Thanks for watching and for the comment!! 😁👍
The Fixer 👍
I’m measuring my mom’s bedroom (no closet). It’s literally a square with no cuts, do I still need to add the 10%? It would be linoleum. Thank you!
Cheers
Hello, just wondering how to apply laminate peel and stick tiles. What type of adhesive or how to prep? Thanks!
I will try to do a video on this soon! Thanks for watching!
So would it be different in roofing? I get the sq ft count and multipy by 100 to get sq count
Worthy video
Ugh math 🙄 but still a very helpful video. Plan to measure our living room tonight!
😂 haha I hear ya! I hope the video helps you out! Thanks for watching!
I have a 130/119 how many boxes of hardwood flooring will I need
I have searched RUclips for videos to reference and have found none I'm refurbishing a house built in the early 1900s it has original hardwood floors with a stagger pattern in one bed the flooring is kinda rotting away id like to replace it with 2 by 12 by 20 ft actual plank boards and I am trying to figure out how to calculate how many boards I need to do a stagger pattern to make it as original as possible how do I do this
How much I need for 4×4 room.. Same tiling you have there
can you teach how to cut and hang dry wall?
Or how to remove damaged drywall and cut and hang new. That'd be great.
@@pspence1963 or both lol
Sure! Next time I hang some Sheetrock I will do it!
In the meantime I have a video for patching large holes in Sheetrock if you are interested! ruclips.net/video/j6c6hDHGwL4/видео.html
The easiest way to calculate 10 percent is using a simple method and yes un high they taught this method alot of students not paying attention
148 × 1.10 = 162.8
I was going to buy some vinyl flooring but they only sale it in linear footage. I understand all about sq ft. So if I have 1 room that is 12 X 10, 2nd room 15 X 14 & 3rd room 15 X 15, the roll only comes 12’ wide. Is it going to be 1st room 10’ linear, 2nd room 24’ linear & 3rd room 24’, being totally of 60’ linear? Seems like so much extra? Confusing. I’ve measured linear ft for crown molding, baseboards, etc..., but never area space!!!! Have you ever heard of this?
Mark ,u can do a special order,
Josue Tello, but if it only comes 12’ wide, I just ask them to cut it 3.3’ wide instead of another 12’ section?
Ok, I would ask for a section 3.3’ X 15’ right?
What you need to do is to put
For first room-- 12×10
For second room --- instead of 15×14 you put 12×18 = 216 sq ft
And for third room ------ instead of 15×15
12×19 that is 228 sq feet
Or you can take the total and multiply by 1.1 to get the amount of flooring you need.
To add 10% just multiply by 1.1
Move over Bob Vila.
from there how do determine how many boxes you need
Hey, Ernest! It should say the square footage on whatever box of material you are buying. Just divide your total square footage from that number and it will tell you how many boxes. Hope this helps!
@@TheFixerHomeRepair thank you.
Or multiple your number by 1.1 and then u dont have to add at the end
omg im measuring my floor and took the big number (i.e the inches not the feet ) lol that embarrassing
😳😳😳
😁😁
Good but tell to people in metter square
Thanks.
Or 148 × 1.1 😆
haha yeeeeaaaah that too. 😁😁 thanks for checking out the video!
CAN YOU TEACH ME THE ABC
Sure. It's as easy as 123
Dude just take your square footage add 10% on the calculator.. your way is confusing. 148 +10%= 162.8
rubbish a lot easier way to get sq mtr.
Im glad i dident hire him
