I live about 15 mins from this castle 🏰. I always wondered what it looked like up close and inside. Still beautiful after being abandoned for so long. Just heard that they are going to be redoing it beginning next year. Today is thanksgiving of 2023, so in 2024, a grant will be given to help restore this beautiful castle 🏰. I hope it brings an economic rise to Dansville. Thank you so very much for doing this video, it made my day even better than it already was. Stay safe and always blessed. Happy thanksgiving 🦃 to all. ❤ 🙏
@@ConnorExploring I'm so glad that you saw my message 🙏 I thought that you would appreciate the news. It is amazing to know that this Beautiful castle will once again, be a well deserving, functioning establishment. You are more than welcome for the update. So glad that you got to explore it and maybe one day, you can do an update video, once it is restored. How cool would that be ❤️ 🙏 stay safe and always blessed. Happy holidays. ❤️
So glad you got to explore before the last fire. I went in 1995 and 1996 a few times. It still had the old cash register in the lobby and elevator door. The first time went in through the basement next time climbed an old box spring to the first open window. ✌️ roof was so cool and stable
The box in the basement that has all of those switches is a 'hot box' or a 'sweat box'. A person would sit inside on a stool with there head protruding out of the top through an opening. The switches worked a variety of lightbulbs inside the box. The box was used for a number of different reasons, as a method to calm a distressed patient in psychiatric hospitals, as a means of losing weight (by sweating) and it was also used as a substitute for sunlight either to supplement natural sunlight, or for hospital patients who were unable to go outside or sit in a sunny window.
Went in there as a kid. Remember seeing a leather head restraint attached to a hospital bed. Creepy place to be anytime but we went in the middle of the night and it was terrifying. Probably around 92-93'. Also the camp grounds that are near by were awesome when I was a kid visiting my uncle. Good memories. Thank you for the content
I was there about a month ago. The building is still in great shape (all things considered) and should be explored when given the chance, but just know the town of Dansville is extremely small and they notice if an unfamiliar face is headed towards the castle on the hill. They charge trespassers quite frequently.
I was there in the early 90's playing with an amusement company and the show was down below. Where we were located we could look up on the hill and see the castle. We didn't go in but went around the whole outside and looked in the windows or are least where the windows once were. My first impression of the place when looking in was of the Shining of the big ballroom in that movie. It was great to see a part of history like the Jeckson Sanitorioum .
@@mikekalb9604 There are houses across from the sanitorium but they are blocked by some trees. My only concern would be that it is a small town and people know how to spot outsiders. I would also recommend going when the weather isn't great because the owner of the property is known to walk the grounds.
Jan 2021....watching this film now and it was awesome......beautiful views and soundtrack that complemented it so well. The past and present pictures gave me chills......Thank you for your time xx
The first article that you questioned is a mimeograph. Precursor to the Xerox machine. Also, Jackson was not a resort. Jackson was a sanatorium, which is a hospital for people who suffered from Consumption. Some famous people had Consumption and thus took up the services of places like the Jackson as respite between attacks.
It's great to see another video from you. Awesome video. Loved how you added in the history of the place and pictures of what it looked like in the past.
This building was opened for business in 1883, not 1858. It replaced the 1851 building that the "Our Home on the Hillside" water cure came to in fall of 1858. The Jacksons and their business partners expanded it over the years.
I was fortunate to go though the castle in the 80's when the Foote's first owned it. They had intended to bring it back. But people had other plans. they destroyed it. It had only been closed for just over 10 yrs when I saw it. I spent many many nights with my friends that lived in the first white house on the left coming up the driveway. They also lived in two other homes that were gorgeous on the property. i've heard that those homes have burned. I wish they had tore them down and were able to salvage some of the high quality building supplies.
When I was young we used to go there at night and party. Dangerous fun. It is such a huge building. And honestly doesn't look much worse than it was back then.
I saw your comment and I had to say, ik exactly what you mean. I grew up in GENESEO and I drove by this castle a million times. I always wanted to go in, but it never happened. I heard that in 2024, a grant will be given to redo the castle. I hope it happens. Dansville could use the economic rise, which this castle would bring, if restored the way it deserves to be! Today is thanksgiving of 2023, so happy thanksgiving 🦃, btw. Nice to come across someone that's from where I'm from, kinda cool actually. Hope you are well, wherever you are now. STAY SAFE and always blessed. Maybe SOMEDAY the castle will be redone and these guys can do a video on that ❤🙏 later neighbor. happy 2024, hope it's a great year for you and your loved ones. Merry Xmas too 🎁
Hi, it's so good to see you both exploring together again, I have missed it. Such a stunning building with such beautiful architecture. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx💖
I’ve been to this place. It really amazing in person. My dad contacted the owner at the time and asked permission to walk the property. We didn’t try going inside though.
cameras allover because of vandals..police alerted as soon as moment detected alot was stolen and ruined in the past..this is in my hometown where i still live
They absolutely do. I live about 12-15 mins from the castle. I always got scared when I thought about going in, because the cops keep such a close watch on it.
My great aunt, who died long before I was born, had tuberculosis. She contracted it just a couple months after getting married. She was sent to a sanitarium in upstate NY. Her husband, my great uncle, built her a tiny home in their backyard behind their big house so she didn't have to stay in the sanitarium. Back then the "cure" was fresh air, and all the windows were kept open all year long, even during snowstorms, in her tiny house. She lived a little over a year in her tiny house in their backyard before she died of tuberculosis. She and my great uncle were in their 20s at the time. My great uncle's lived to be 93. He never did remarry or even have another girlfriend because he was so heartbroken over the death of his wife. 70 years he lived with a broken heart. At least now they are together again.
My mother grew up in Dansville Ny and my dad in Mt Morris Ny. We went to Ny EVERY YEAR cuz Ann wanted that and took my sister and i there and we didnt go inside , we were outside that huge building and some dude from Deliverance popped up from somewhere, dont know where from said that we were trespassing and had to leave and i remember saying that we didnt want to touch anything and mom just said " we're leaving"
The original was open for 24 years before being completely destroyed in a fire, the current structure on site was built 1883(140 years ago) holy shiautt!
If you go down 256, south, down west lake road, which is, conesus lake. It will take you into Dansville, NY. You will go down a large hill as you enter Dansville, if you look to your left, it's right there . I grew up about 12-15 from there. Hope that helps. I just heard that they were given a grant to start restoring the castle, starting in 2024. I hope it actually happens. It would be amazing. Happy Thanksgiving 2023🦃❤️🙏
SO sad that as I type this. 3/18/2023 this building is burning to the ground. Because the place is remote and overgrown, and abandoned, firefighters are unable to save it.

This was amazing.
Went here years ago and when we were leaving the police showed up. Apparently the people in that town keep a close eye on the property.
Same thing happened to us.

Amazing footage man, I'd imagine more would've collapsed by now. Thank you for your attention to detail without a selfie stick lol

Thank you, Very, very very impressed. Loved the add-on's, such as Homer Simpson..

Jackson Sanitarium Used the boxes for Light Therapy. They Believed in alot of Natural Cures
my hometown
the church in your intro looked like the one in Gary, In.
the thing with all the light switches is for reduction of weight by placing everything but your head in the cabinet to sweat out impurities.
the first item you saw is a mimeograph machine. A copier before their were copiers.
