I really like these 70 size metaniums. I have 2 of the jdm 70 metanium mgl and although they are smaller, they are super versatile. Perfect size for up to 16lb fluoro or 50lb braid.
Exactly, all my Metaniums are the jdm models. I well be selling 2 & get 2 of these DC reels
Yep but digitaka has them for $353.12 right from Japan in three days when they get them in stock
That’s where I’m getting mine from
I already pre-order mine… can’t wait, I also have the previous generation of the metanium dc as well, so I want to see the performance comparison
I really like that. I hope Bass Pro shops offer these reels.
Well, there goes another $1000 for my jerkbait rods. Luckily, for most situations, the slx dc xt70 will do for me.
i will get this...i love my metanium shallow edition....
I'm done. After ordering a brand new reel with bad bearings. Sent in for repair, talked to 2 different people on a time line. The reel was returned to me not repaired with a letter saying they were unable to contact me. Not wasting any more money on these new disposable shimanos.
That sucks. Where did you send it?
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors shimano America in South Carolina
@@SeanCasteel-e9e I know how you feel, I sent mine in as my spool would engage when casting every 10-15 casts. Would backlash my spool and send my lure into the abyss. They just sent it right back to me with a letter saying sorry we couldn’t replicate the issue. I was like bullshit, put it on a rod threw a lure a couple times and boom!locks up!! Wasted my money shipping it to them, not only did they not test it well, they didn’t even bother opening up the reel and cleaning it up or trading out a part just incase. Hell a phone call would have been nice, hey we’re not sure what’s going on can you tell us what’s happening??
Damm. When u cant even change bearings. Lol. Fixing baitcaster is easier than changing car oil. Lol got to get handy.
the problem with light reels it makes the rod tip heavy.. had that happen on my AL bfs shimano bait caster on a bfs expride ..once i put a bfs conquest on it its balanced the set up
For sure. Everyone wants lighter and lighter Rees but balance definitely becomes an issue.
Just get the SLXDCXT it’s the same breaking system the IDC 5 they should’ve made it unique and went with the Antares DC braking system IMHO also does it have a brass gear or a aluminum gear?
SLX 150 XT DC. Same iDC5 tech, same MGL III spool, and most of the other features mentioned. A tad heavier (6.8 oz?). Price? ~$225 on Digitaka. So, would I spend $500 US on this reel? Hmmmm.. that green color and Metanium design is sweet 🤤 but a hard pass for me. Just ordered my SLX XT DC, can’t wait for the spring.
For most in North America they can only access the SLX DC. Not the XT. SLX uses iDC4, doesn’t have MGL Spool 3, doesn’t have SARB bearings and only has 4+1, doesn’t have Micromodule Gear, no Silent Tune and no Coresolid Frame made of Magnesium. There’s a lot of technology in this reel compared to the SLX and thus the price difference. The SLX DC is great value, no doubt but it’s not a Metanium and the SLX XT DC isn’t really comparable due to bearings, frame and materials.
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors good points. Plus not everyone is comfortable buying JDM gear, in part because reels aren’t guaranteed. I’ve bought a bunch and never had any issues. For me a middle-of-the-road option is to get the new Metanium DC from a JDM site and save a few hunnerd on the favorable yen exchange rate. My brain and wallet can handle $350. $500, not so much. Although if I tallied up my yearly TW purchases….
Totally agree
it would been great if they made spool the size of rhe scorpion dc 2016 model
does the jdm version of the new metanium dc 70 have a smaller handle (85mm) versusu usa version (90)?????
Let's see that new Poison Adrena!
Haven’t seen it yet
Now we're talking!! 😮😮 - great info JP!
( ordered 😎 )
JP can also stand for Japan too, and JP do have nice shit ... though 🤣
Saltwater safe?
I noticed the dc reels went out of style real quick. I don’t see anyone using them anymore.
When they bringing the slx dc 70 over from Japan
Not sure but always a possibility if the market will bear it
How do I get one?
I want thus for my small mouth bass fishing...
Digitaka
It is already known when the role will be available?
No, don’t know exact shipping date but it’s usually a few months after release
What makes it different from the 2021 Antares DC?
The new Metanium is lighter, has a Core Solid Body design and has iDC 5 controller versus 4x8 from what I can recall.
@JPDeRoseOutdoors yeah... but the MGL /// Spool is 70 size in the Antares DC 2021
They really should have made a bigger lighter spool. There is really no reason to upgrade from any other Metaninium Dc model. Thwy all have small spools and cast a mile
Is there going to be a 150 size?
Haven't heard anything about a 150
The DC unit is about 1/3 of the reel itself so i doubt that going happen at all; specially given that the Metanium DC is so compact, because the Antares DC is 100 spool and that thing is almost as big as the Curado 300. if you want light and compact low profile reel, but you also want a deep spool line capacity not going to happen in the Shimano DC series reel. have you ever see or even bother to check/look into the DC magnetic that is attach to the spool? that magnetic diameter is about 1inch wide; that's consider big in the small space inside the spool. so to compensate to make the reel compact; the spool suffer by becoming shallow. if you want a 100/150 size spool Shimano have to neither make the reel big and tall like the Antares DC or wide like the Curado DC 200 you can't have both. I mean Shimano can make the magnetic small to make the spool deep, but now you're going to have weak breaking magnetic or you'll be under break another terms, and being under breaking can cost you a lot backlash and over run
@@leepao6302 👏 well said
Sucks they r keeping the old iDC5. Give it a X mode or the old DC brakes from the Antares DC. Make it stand out from the SLX DC XT which is the same reel for over half the price. Its a $500 reel come on Shimano.
This is my first look at this type of iDC controller as the previous gen you have to open the side plate to adjust for line type. Frame materials, weight and bearings all weigh into the price difference for sure
Easy pass. So Disappointed thats its a 70 size, wish it was a 150 or atleast a 100. I'll stick with the non-dc.
Only holds 15-20 yards less than a 150 DC. Depends what you want to use it for but in most instances it should have plenty of capacity
Still waiting on new scorpion dc. I have 6 2021s 🤣
To buy a reel at that high cost, seems stupid. Reels that are around $100.00 dollars are just fine. They last for yrs. and yrs. There's no need for this reel.
High end reels for Shimano have higher quality components that further their life for sure. Bearings, body materials, overall weight reduction, gearing and other technologies but yes, an SLX at $99 is a great reel that if properly maintained will also last a very long time. It’s just not the same reel as a Metanium. Everyone looks for different things in a reel including price points based on tech but thankfully there are great options on both ends of the spectrum.
😂 Daiwa IMZ is at least 10 years ahead. Shimano is so yesterday😊
Drag power less line capicity also very less price very high😂😂😂
It's a 70, of course it will have less line capacity and it has 11 pounds of drag which is standard for Shimano low profile baitcasters
just so you know you're just trying to catch a bass not a shark 🤣8/10 times fishing on baitcasting setup; you just going horse the fish into the boat without even giving the fish a to chance fight or played the fish (even in open water); so not why you need line capacity at all; i find pretty funny to be honest. the only reason I know/understand why majority of people like you need to have a deep line capacity spool is that you guys felt like you're getting your money worth; it has nothing to do with performance, that also one of the reason most people can't graspe/understand the concept of BFS reel/fishing 🤣
@@JPDeRoseOutdoors I also owned the Metanium 30 (JDM reel) and it skips like a dream
lighest dc ever or not, micro gears while being made out of aluminum is the worst combination there is. Unless you're using baits with zero resistance such as jerkbaits, your gearset will be buzzy as hell within six months of use. So tired of this shit from Shimano.
Why a 70 size instead of another 150 or even a 200?! No, just no!
The reel only holds 15 less yards of 10lb than the 150.
