Just got a couple of Shimano JDM DC reels myself. They are fantastic, and I've never needed Shimanos' warranty anyway.
Both are going on the new 24 version of their GLF rods.

I was thinking of buying this for some perch fishing casting jigs from 3-8 grams, how does it do with this casting range? I know the slx xt does well in this but I wonder if the metanium is similar.

I got mine from Digitaka. A little more than Japan Lure Shop, but Digitaka has free shipping, no tax, and there is a small fee for the conversion rate from dollars to Yen. The best thing and I don't really know how they pull it off is you'll get your reel in 3 or 4 days. If you join the membership you will build a small percentage of credit with every purchase to be used on future buys.
