So I personally just got this game a few days ago, and have been playing the CRAP out of it. As I was playing, I realized that EA did change a lot of their problems. Within just a maybe 2 hours of gameplay I was able to unlock Darth Vader, a character that previously took 40 hours to grind for. Also, as you mentioned, you could not buy lootcrates. I really don't have too many star cards, only a few for each class and a few for some hero's, but even up against people with tons of super rare star cards is still fun. It just makes you work a little harder. I personally am in love with this multiplayer. I loved the last one too, but this is a million times better. Even though some of the scandals have sadly given this game a bad wrap, I still love it. I do hope that EA does balance out the pay to win thing, though.

I'm thinking to get it now that the The Last Jedi is out and I am a big fan of SW and I feel that hype you know, but after all the comments I have read I'm not sure...I have never play Multiplayer mode on any game since I'm the old way, just play offline, however I want to give it a shoot with this one, what do you think now that you have played the game?
Hey, sorry for not responding, I only found this today. Also, if you are patient and are ok with not getting the best stuff right away and are ok with having to work a little bit to get the better gear, than this is a great game. There are still patches and such coming out for the game, so the gameplay might change a little over time, but I personally find it very fun. There are multiple different classes, guns, star cards, hero's, vehicles, you name it. The campaign us also pretty good in my opinion, so if you still feel like you want to continue playing offline, than it's still pretty fun! I hope you enjoy the game if you decide to get it, and happy holidays!

EA has been listening... to the boys predicting revenue. They didn't reduce hero cost because they wanted to be kind to players, they reduced it because their boys predicted that the amount of time it takes to grind out and unlock characters would put many people off, thus affecting their revenue.
Doesn't change the fact that this game is objectively the best game released this year. Most content, best graphics, best sound design, most complete engine. Considering how you CANT use real money to buy stuff AND all the DLC is free, this game is actually amazing. Have fun sittin on your thumbs, children (;

This game is awesome this dood is just a a douche they made up for the first game by far. I've been playing since the 14th it's amazing and the story is very good. The multiplayer is good too. And if you want to solo just go into arcade this game gets a 9 in my book
Its so frustrating, because how EA constructed the progression/micro-transactions in this game warrants that no one should buy it, period! But its Star Wars, and its beautifully made by Dice, and much improved from battlefront 1, so people will buy it. I fear this will be a beacon to all other gaming companies that they too can do micro-transactions like this and still be successful, which is 100% bad! I honestly did not buy the game, and will not, because of this bs....but it sucks because I love Star Wars and I know I'd enjoy it. Hopefully I'm not the only one trying to stop this madness from growing (and it seems like Im not which is good), because EA won't feel a few people boycotting their game for bad business practices.

Bought this for my nine year old son for his birthday. The progression system is broken because they based it on the pay to win loot boxes and it bothered me to support a game that tried this, but I bought it on sale and it's got really great Star Wars content. My son is too young to understand how broke it is, so I don't regret the purchase. It's still good Star Wars fun, even though evil greedy EA tried their best to ruin it.

ItsYourBoyKay Actually that’s not true. You see, graphics mod are just injectors that change how your game appears. So multiplayer still works completely fine with it. Same for rezzed maps. It doesn’t change the game, just how the map appears on your end. I’ve played plenty of multiplayer matches on rezzed maps and always with the graphics mod on.
I love how this game looks and it looks like the devs put a lot of love and care into it but I won’t buy it because I can’t support where EA wants the game industry to be able to go. Edit: should have said “I won’t buy it yet.” I am waiting to see how the P2W stuff pans out and will decide at a later date.
The devs (Dice) do put a lot of love and care into their games. It's EA that's behind the bullshit. In every major Dice/EA game that is released, 80% of the BS comes from EA. I seriously think that Dice should become independent from EA and publish their games on their own. Before Battlefield and Battlefront end up in EA's graveyard of franchises.

I'm not quit sure yet, there's so many people out there who absolutely love the games Dice develops. (Myself being one of them) I think Dice is at the point where they could be independent. Sure, it might take them longer to to produce a game, but I think the support from fans would be overwhelmingly positive.
I agree. Multi player is one thing, but it should only ever be a small add-on to a main single player game. Which is where the first battlefront game failed, they put too much emphasis on multi player and not enough on single player. They didn't think about the lonely nerds in their bedrooms who only want to play by themselves and play what they want when they want, like me ;)

Battlefield 1 was meh, looked good but was lacking in content and kinda boring. Only played about maybe 3-4 hours of BF1 (including singleplayer) As for Titanfall, I haven't played either game yet, but they look good.
IMO even if loot boxes could be obtained with in-game currencies, they should still die off. I remember how excited i was to get the ACR in MW2. Now i just don't have that.
Some people are saying its because Disney is making them pay big for lessening fees but, that has nothing to do with it. In all of EA's sports games this has been going on for years. If I wanted to get that 96 platinum Sidney Crosby I had to pay $20 to get a good card pack(loot box). Even if I laid that money the chance of me grtting him is slim. I could just get 20 different uniforms that I have no use of. EA (and other companies) have been doing this for years, so it has nothing to do with Disney

I honestly think EA is using this game to see how far they can push the mictotransaction boundaries. They make it terrible and when everyone complains they tone it back even though it's still bad in hopes that people will accept it. As a starwars fan this sucks. It also sucks because the original battlefronts were so enjoyable and some of my favorite games ever.

Feel like this review proves that there is still some honest game critics that tackle the real issues of the game and give the bold truth. I think my trust in Jake Baldino and Before You Buy has been restored. This was exactly what needed to know before I purchased the game at its discounted price; the truth. I thought this game would be a remastered and reinvented take on the classic Battlefront 2, a new FPS that is classic and fresh. It’s just another EA game and another sellout FPS. DLC is (supposed to be) produced post-launch. Companies have no obligation to give you that content for free, and in fact they'd be stupid to do that. Nothing gets done in business without profit opportunity, so the company will have to monetize post-launch content to make it worth it. There are two main ways we've seen, namely season passes/dlc and lootcrates. I tend to prefer lootcrates for this (as long as they aren't pay to win) because I'd rather have other people pay for my dlc lol. All these people saying that they have a god given right to post-launch content are just spoiled and delusional.
kade123 I agree with that. I hate having random progression too, I want to be able to decide what items interest me and then have a clear-cut way of earning the items I want through progression challenges. I tend to really like COD's progression system, for example.
EA lowering the cost, deactivating the in-game monetization and stuff like that is NO EXCUSE. They put it in there when they released it. They knew what they were doing. You can't hit someone in the face and then nurse them back to health and claim "well, it wasn't that bad that i hit you, right?"

I'm so glad Titanfall 2 was not heavily influenced by EA. All of the DLC other than some cosmetics are part of free updates. Too bad they probably killed that series too just by lack of advertisement. I'm glad I didn't know it was EA until after I bought it.

The whole micro transaction thing caused me to cancel my preorder and the knee jerk reaction by ea of lowering the cost of Vader and Luke etc and then lowering the rewards from finishing the campaign just shows how sketchy EA has become.
All I wanted for a Battlefront 2 was a single player campaign and a conquest mode like in the original second. I got one of those so where's the second. I don't care for multiplayer, I just wanted a campaign and conquest.
Normally I try to look past the mistakes a game has because I like the idea or the core game, like For Honor, a LOT of problems and few players, but I still play it. But with this game, the faults can’t really be overlooked, such a shame EA had to ruin the BF series (for me at least)

I pre ordered it and went in nervous but it’s actually still a great game and I love it yea the progression is tedious but honestly grinding is fun and it doesn’t take much to get a lot of points for crates and hero’s and villains is sooooo fun and you earn a lot from it If your a true Star Wars fan I defiantly suggest it

Honestly, when these game companies actually cared about a game back in the day, they would make a full complete game. Now they literally make something good enough and release DLC until it is actually up to par of a full release while making you pay throughout the BS. Going so far now to add micro-transactions is ridiculous. Progression in the game could easily just be a grind with loot boxes for customization or something that isn't so impactful on how much you will end up enjoying the game

Little Manka Because the game itself is fucking great, i loved the 10 hours i played, i don’t feel like star cards make a real difference because i didn’t even open a crate,yet i managed to always be in top 3 of each match. With that said, the progression system is fucking dunpster fire, and people need to keep giving the game bad publicity to make them change it. It’s sad, without the microtransactions, this would be one of the best multiplayer games of the year.
I think this is a good structured review and i'm a huge star wars fan myself but i must say, i think the part about earning in game credits to purchase upgrades for your character i.e loot crates, is a pretty fun way of progressing your character and for me personally i really enjoy that. It's typical in EA games. I can see that the problem lies with people simply purchasing lots of these with real currency making it a bit of an unfair multiplayer experience, i do think that if this was somewhat restricted or removed the game wouldn't have much to flaw. As someone who played the original Battlefront on ps2 from a young age it really brings back to me in a pretty well done manner the gameplay that i miss and remember.

People really should update their reviews on this game because it has changed a ton, no more micro transactions (only visual appearances), new clones wars content etc

So I personally just got this game a few days ago, and have been playing the CRAP out of it. As I was playing, I realized that EA did change a lot of their problems. Within just a maybe 2 hours of gameplay I was able to unlock Darth Vader, a character that previously took 40 hours to grind for. Also, as you mentioned, you could not buy lootcrates. I really don't have too many star cards, only a few for each class and a few for some hero's, but even up against people with tons of super rare star cards is still fun. It just makes you work a little harder. I personally am in love with this multiplayer. I loved the last one too, but this is a million times better. Even though some of the scandals have sadly given this game a bad wrap, I still love it. I do hope that EA does balance out the pay to win thing, though.

Hey, sorry for not responding, I only found this today. Also, if you are patient and are ok with not getting the best stuff right away and are ok with having to work a little bit to get the better gear, than this is a great game. There are still patches and such coming out for the game, so the gameplay might change a little over time, but I personally find it very fun. There are multiple different classes, guns, star cards, hero's, vehicles, you name it. The campaign us also pretty good in my opinion, so if you still feel like you want to continue playing offline, than it's still pretty fun! I hope you enjoy the game if you decide to get it, and happy holidays!

EA has been listening... to the boys predicting revenue. They didn't reduce hero cost because they wanted to be kind to players, they reduced it because their boys predicted that the amount of time it takes to grind out and unlock characters would put many people off, thus affecting their revenue.

This game is awesome this dood is just a a douche they made up for the first game by far. I've been playing since the 14th it's amazing and the story is very good. The multiplayer is good too. And if you want to solo just go into arcade this game gets a 9 in my book

Its so frustrating, because how EA constructed the progression/micro-transactions in this game warrants that no one should buy it, period! But its Star Wars, and its beautifully made by Dice, and much improved from battlefront 1, so people will buy it. I fear this will be a beacon to all other gaming companies that they too can do micro-transactions like this and still be successful, which is 100% bad! I honestly did not buy the game, and will not, because of this bs....but it sucks because I love Star Wars and I know I'd enjoy it. Hopefully I'm not the only one trying to stop this madness from growing (and it seems like Im not which is good), because EA won't feel a few people boycotting their game for bad business practices.

Bought this for my nine year old son for his birthday. The progression system is broken because they based it on the pay to win loot boxes and it bothered me to support a game that tried this, but I bought it on sale and it's got really great Star Wars content. My son is too young to understand how broke it is, so I don't regret the purchase. It's still good Star Wars fun, even though evil greedy EA tried their best to ruin it.

ItsYourBoyKay Actually that’s not true. You see, graphics mod are just injectors that change how your game appears. So multiplayer still works completely fine with it. Same for rezzed maps. It doesn’t change the game, just how the map appears on your end. I’ve played plenty of multiplayer matches on rezzed maps and always with the graphics mod on.
I love how this game looks and it looks like the devs put a lot of love and care into it but I won’t buy it because I can’t support where EA wants the game industry to be able to go.

The devs (Dice) do put a lot of love and care into their games. It's EA that's behind the bullshit. In every major Dice/EA game that is released, 80% of the BS comes from EA. I seriously think that Dice should become independent from EA and publish their games on their own. Before Battlefield and Battlefront end up in EA's graveyard of franchises.

Which is where the first battlefront game failed, they put too much emphasis on multi player and not enough on single player. Feel like this review proves that there is still some honest game critics that tackle the real issues of the game and give the bold truth. I think my trust in Jake Baldino and Before You Buy has been restored. This was exactly what needed to know before I purchased the game at its discounted price; the truth. I thought this game would be a remastered and reinvented take on the classic Battlefront 2, a new FPS that is classic and fresh. It’s just another EA game and another sellout FPS. DLC is (supposed to be) produced post-launch. Companies have no obligation to give you that content for free, and in fact they'd be stupid to do that. Nothing gets done in business without profit opportunity, so the company will have to monetize post-launch content to make it worth it. There are two main ways we've seen, namely season passes/dlc and lootcrates. I tend to prefer lootcrates for this (as long as they aren't pay to win) because I'd rather have other people pay for my dlc lol. All these people saying that they have a god given right to post-launch content are just spoiled and delusional.
kade123 I agree with that. I hate having random progression too, I want to be able to decide what items interest me and then have a clear-cut way of earning the items I want through progression challenges. I tend to really like COD's progression system, for example.

I'm so glad Titanfall 2 was not heavily influenced by EA. All of the DLC other than some cosmetics are part of free updates. Too bad they probably killed that series too just by lack of advertisement. I'm glad I didn't know it was EA until after I bought it.

I don't like how it ties with progression but (unlike activist or and blizzard) they actually responded to the criticism of their game and tried to fix it. The whole micro transaction thing caused me to cancel my preorder and the knee jerk reaction by ea of lowering the cost of Vader and Luke etc and then lowering the rewards from finishing the campaign just shows how sketchy EA has become.

All I wanted for a Battlefront 2 was a single player campaign and a conquest mode like in the original second. I got one of those so where's the second. I don't care for multiplayer, I just wanted a campaign and conquest.

Normally I try to look past the mistakes a game has because I like the idea or the core game, like For Honor, a LOT of problems and few players, but I still play it. But with this game, the faults can’t really be overlooked, such a shame EA had to ruin the BF series (for me at least)

VideoGameGang I think for honor is fun but the development team is the worst, they don't fix a majority of the games issues that's been there since launch, release broken characters, and postpone fixes. This game in the other hand seems fun but EA and their corporate shenanigans turned alot of people off it, (Also because it's cool to hate ea).

Honestly, when these game companies actually cared about a game back in the day, they would make a full complete game. Now they literally make something good enough and release DLC until it is actually up to par of a full release while making you pay throughout the BS. Going so far now to add micro-transactions is ridiculous. Progression in the game could easily just be a grind with loot boxes for customization or something that isn't so impactful on how much you will end up enjoying the game

Little Manka Because the game itself is fucking great, i loved the 10 hours i played, i don’t feel like star cards make a real difference because i didn’t even open a crate,yet i managed to always be in top 3 of each match. With that said, the progression system is fucking dunpster fire, and people need to keep giving the game bad publicity to make them change it. It’s sad, without the microtransactions, this would be one of the best multiplayer games of the year.

I think this is a good structured review and i'm a huge star wars fan myself but i must say, i think the part about earning in game credits to purchase upgrades for your character i.e loot crates, is a pretty fun way of progressing your character and for me personally i really enjoy that. It's typical in EA games. I can see that the problem lies with people simply purchasing lots of these with real currency making it a bit of an unfair multiplayer experience, i do think that if this was somewhat restricted or removed the game wouldn't have much to flaw. As someone who played the original Battlefront on ps2 from a young age it really brings back to me in a pretty well done manner the gameplay that i miss and remember.
