Being a father, I really appreciated the little moment he shared with his son showing off the Terminator figure. Seems like he would be a cool dad to have. You’re an inspiration, Thomas!
What a pro. I’d be mortified if Thomas came to one of my band rehearsals. As I sit behind my kit asking “After the guitar goes wee-wee baneener neener is that when I play ba-whomba budada budada?”
How anyone couldn't love Thomas, as a human being and musician, drummer and human being at least, well, I feel sorry for them. He's such a great presence in the world.
A good exemplar of old and new. Old in regards to listening to music then transcribing what you hear. New in regards to the ways in which technology enables. Also important is the learning process: cognitive blend of visual & auditory skills. We must thank Thomas for publicly sharing his private working methods.😀
You are such an inspiration to me. I really appreciate this video. While I will never need to prep quite like this, I can apply a multitude of these ideas and practices that you employ in your day to day of tour preparation. Thanks brother!
Mr Lang, thank you for reliving my stress on going to play with my south Texas country group along with my bass patterns. From one drummer to another. Thank you Mr. Lang.
Very nice explanation about learning music in a short period of time. Can you at some point do a video about how you transcribe drum parts? Cool to see.
Bro that Arnold impersonation was spot on! 😁 Thanks for allowing us to watch how you prepare for a tour. Really insightful and super helpful for us on how to learn a song we don’t know. Love your detailed musical approach to drumming. Your a super hilarious dude. Have a wonderful week brother!✌️👍👊💪😁
Yes! I'm on the road to drum greatness. I too have multiple pairs of reading glasses all over the house!! Now I just have to put in about 20,000 more hours of practice and I'm all set.
Tomas’s impression of the terminator was my wish that is now fulfilled! I didn’t know what a funny guy he is, and this video is really helping as I am preparing for a show this week and learning songs and parts. I actually met with Tomas that year in Tel Aviv like he mentions in the planned tour for 2016, and still have the photo and a signed drum head !
Thanks a lot for sharing this información. I have some questions if Mr Láng has The time to answer: 1) how many times do you need to listen to a song and how long does it takes approx to finish the transcriptión? 2) In the case of fills and chops such as minute 5:06, do you do an exact transcription or you do your own fill? Thanks a lot 🙏
I genuinely thought this was a prank video when he showed the transcription he prepared in one pass through of the song because of how well it was prepared. Dang Thomas, that was rad. Thank you for making this video
man I laughed so hard at the terminator thing, that is so important as others have stated, too many times I see famous people treat thier kids like a commodity, or like a costume accessory if you will, to see you break it down with your boy and have a laugh, show humor, and take a break from your work to do it was fuckin awsome thomas!!!!
Awesome!! One of the best drummers on the planet!! Funny, I've always charted the way you do, usually in one shot except BIG brackets for the repeats lol. Great Arnold BTW. Great video thanks brother!!
Thanks a lot for sharing! I always liked Thomas for the musician and the person he is and still actively use his independent/interdependent exercises regularly. And bro - you got a lot of candles going on in the background. :-) Nice Arnold impression :-)
I'd be interesting in any comments from sight-reading drummers on this...obviously Thomas shows how he puts his charts together. Further on from what he says about having an audio and visual reference etc, his chart for I'm Not Afraid Of The Police is missing some of the intricacies of the original drum track. What''s the deal with that, is he only notating the track to a level that will provide a jumping off point for improvising, because too many intricacies would be too much detail to handle, with such a short time to get a set together?
Great! At least you’ll do the homework, and then get 8 weeks of work from it. Sometimes, in the freelance world , I have to learn/chart 40-80 songs for just one gig…even though we couldn’t possibly play 80 songs, lol True story, on the 80 songs. Happened once. Kudos and safe travels.
Thomas not only are you a brilliant drummer and musician but you are better looking than Mark Wahlberg. It's a little unfair. Thanks for all your inspiration and generosity with your expertise.
AHAHHAAH i found a "fail" of thomas... ahahaa Maybe it is not a fail ... he was testing me!!! Daaammmm He´s GOoD ... Touring "Europe, Israel...Germany, France..." That´s Europe :D But yes ... you probably will own this :) Love 4 you All 🌈
Please don't tell me he transcribed that first written chart in one listen, and it's a completely new song... I've seen Larnell Lewis learn "Chick's Pain" after one listen, I know Thomas Lang can do the same thing, but that chart is just too unbelievable. Even if I can transcribe in one listen, my chart would be full of abbreviations because my writing speed can't possibly keep up with my brain - that's IF my brain can even keep up to the song ffs.
Being a father, I really appreciated the little moment he shared with his son showing off the Terminator figure. Seems like he would be a cool dad to have. You’re an inspiration, Thomas!
Kudos to you for being in children life
What a pro.
I’d be mortified if Thomas came to one of my band rehearsals.
As I sit behind my kit asking “After the guitar goes wee-wee baneener neener is that when I play ba-whomba budada budada?”
Though I do appreciate Thomas Lang's great skill as a drummer, I especially appreciate his sense of humor!
Ultra professional drumming machine. Much respect.
When I see Thomas Lang, I click.
BongGui Kim 김봉긔 .....and are you also a ‘simple man’ 😂
He does click too. Every time.
How anyone couldn't love Thomas, as a human being and musician, drummer and human being at least, well, I feel sorry for them. He's such a great presence in the world.
4:50. Damn! That was an excellent Arnold impression. Clearly a man of many talents!
A good exemplar of old and new. Old in regards to listening to music then transcribing what you hear. New in regards to the ways in which technology enables. Also important is the learning process: cognitive blend of visual & auditory skills. We must thank Thomas for publicly sharing his private working methods.😀
I'd love to see Thomas to give a lesson just on charting / transcribing.
Such a great educator. Thanks for being such a great resource, Drum Channel.
You are such an inspiration to me. I really appreciate this video. While I will never need to prep quite like this, I can apply a multitude of these ideas and practices that you employ in your day to day of tour preparation. Thanks brother!
This video is one of he most educational I have ever watched!!!!
First saw Thomas back in 2006 on a clinic tour here in South Wales uk. When he had his Acrylic Sonor kit. I.ve loved him ever since.
This is awesome. He explains it in simple terms and shows his professionalism.
I agree
Mr Lang, thank you for reliving my stress on going to play with my south Texas country group along with my bass patterns. From one drummer to another. Thank you Mr. Lang.
What an awesome dad and overall inspiration to all of us.
Absolut genial! Danke Thomas. Love from Switzerland.
What a great chap, so much fun, his kids are blessed.
Very nice explanation about learning music in a short period of time. Can you at some point do a video about how you transcribe drum parts? Cool to see.
Glad to see im not the only one who likes to goof around on the X6! Good stuff Thomas..

Well he´s the Druminator and from Austria 😉
Thomas is waaay more Austrian that Arnold could EVER BE!
Great interview! Was fun to watch!!! Haha 4:45, there's the Austrian Thomas Lang :) Wia leiwand =)
And this is why he's one of the best.
The impression at 4.55 is absolutely brilliant. Obviously being Austrian the accent is easy, but very very funny.
Yes! I'm on the road to drum greatness. I too have multiple pairs of reading glasses all over the house!! Now I just have to put in about 20,000 more hours of practice and I'm all set.
Such Knowledge to share.
Thanks Thomas
Love Thomas Lang! Incredible drummer. Great Arnold take.😊👏👏
Thank you for this video... it help to musician for to see how to work into the whole drums ...
Salute you Thomas. .
Chelo from Argentina..

Amazing process - a real professional - how it is done.
This man is amazing!!!
Wow you have great handwriting!!! I just learn by listening over and over. Memorize!
The act of writing and listening helps me to. I can see the cart in my head, it really helps to sink in
I love that song " Im not afraid of the police today" :D As a father myself, your son showing up with that toy.. lol I love those moments. 😅
Great Chart!!!!
i learn songs the exact same way , Audio/Visual
I genuinely thought this was a prank video when he showed the transcription he prepared in one pass through of the song because of how well it was prepared.

we want part 2 and 3! PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Thomas is a truly master.
That's great I will love to learn transcription.
Thomas is so inspirational to me, though it's impossible to reach his stunning skills. Greetings from Italy
LOOOOOVE the Arney impression! 😂
Thomas Lang is Thomas Lang!!
Brilliant!! Amazing to see this process used by one of the greats. 👍
Damn! About time i checked out the I can destroy album... Didnt know what the lineup was on that one... I needed this right now... King!!!!
My favorite drummer 🤘🏻🔥
Thanks a lot for sharing! I always liked Thomas for the musician and the person he is and still actively use his independent/interdependent exercises regularly.
And bro - you got a lot of candles going on in the background. :-)
Nice Arnold impression :-)
If anyone needs a tech while on tour I own 2 DW drum keys.
So that is where my keys end up lol
Thanks for this video! This is a professional Musician.
4:45. That's a KILLER Arnold impression loool
Freagin awesome and talented man. Killer drummer and soooo professional.🤙💯
That massive medley is long and quick and full of many surprises. Really impressive how it was put together. Respect 👊
Interesting tour insights. PS I was wondering. Whatever happened to Rachel Fury? Great video
Yet again, why Thomas Lang is one of of my drum heroes "This is a proper chart". Heck yeah. "I can see the notation of my parts in my head". Yep.
Wish i could write charts so fast
Mind blowing 🤔.
Is that a Chet Zar painting on the wall?

very usefull!
RUclips Algo you hear me? Don't guess shit, I want more of Thomas Lang. Do recommend!
His face and his humor kinda pulls me to this Austrian actor from Django and Bastards by Tarantino. Especially when they're both shaved.
Great video,I consider it very useful, despite my basic English, I understand the idea it explains.hahaha that part made me laugh4.45
If you told me Thomas Lang is Luke Holland's older brother I would believe you
Justin King you mean dad 😁
liked the video and the idea very much, can you give some tools for the writing ?
Great news, when would you be visiting France specifically Thomas ! 🙂
Great! At least you’ll do the homework, and then get 8 weeks of work from it.
Sometimes, in the freelance world , I have to learn/chart 40-80 songs for just one gig…even though we couldn’t possibly play 80 songs, lol
True story, on the 80 songs. Happened once.

Did the camera cut that much out or did he actually transcribe it that fast?
I have the same T-shirt as Thomas Lang 😀🥁
Thomas not only are you a brilliant drummer and musician but you are better looking than Mark Wahlberg. It's a little unfair. Thanks for all your inspiration and generosity with your expertise.
I have the same DW shirt as Thomas! I did not come with any of his skills though :(
9:51 I waited for him to sing "Magneto and Titanium Man"
Beautiful son Thomas! Now I go to transcribe “i maschi” by Gianna Nannini... do you have some suggest to give me?... bye
Hahaha great guy..!!
Nyaaaahhhh!
Amazing stuff...

Thomas the Drum Engine
Für einen Wiener imitierst du den Steirer echt gut :-)
He can do such a great Arnie impression becuase hes from Austria too LOL
imagine having Thomas Lang as a father 0_0
hi from israel
How does Lang prepare for no gym during lockdown? lol
Lets get a crib tour!
4:45 🤣😂
When a drummer is learning the chord progressions just because….they’re a true musician
the shrine to satan on the wall is really cool
Man I wish I had 5% of his knowledge .
Now he looks like a pianist
Roland Fantom X7. Every great drummer has one in their lounge. As a drummer, I'm removing mine from the lounge as we speak...
He's good at Kayboard too..
Daaaamn that was incredible. How the...?
Hey thomas do you know when do you plan on being in israel? I look forward to that
AHAHHAAH i found a "fail" of thomas... ahahaa
Maybe it is not a fail ... he was testing me!!! Daaammmm
He´s GOoD ...
Touring "Europe, Israel...Germany, France..." That´s Europe :D
But yes ... you probably will own this :)
Love 4 you All 🌈
Im surprised he's playing music from the American Pie soundtracks.
you like candels, right?
Wow I can't even chart my own life 🤣
Please don't tell me he transcribed that first written chart in one listen, and it's a completely new song... I've seen Larnell Lewis learn "Chick's Pain" after one listen, I know Thomas Lang can do the same thing, but that chart is just too unbelievable.
