- Golden Spike National Historic Site: Celebrating 150 Years
Recorded on 5/10/19
Let’s party like it’s 1869! On Friday, May 10, 2019, A-Train4014 Productions made a special trip to Promontory Summit in Utah to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the first Transcontinental Railroad in the United States of America. The weather was beautiful and it was a full house. While we were there, Central Pacific “Jupiter” 60 and Union Pacific 119 reenacted the historical photo back in 1869 along with actors to replicate what happened on that historical day. In addition, Utah governor, Gary Herbert along with other U.S. Senators and Utah Representatives were present and even gave a few words including “tapping” the Golden Spike during the ceremony. Even though the crowd got a bit rough, we still were privileged to be at Promontory Summit on the 150th Anniversary of the first Transcontinental Railroad. Coming up, stay tuned for more special footage from our trip out on the road and it’s a big one. Enjoy this special presentation!
Hello to everyone. Congratulations to the history of railroading. I wish I could have been there.
A great event! Thanks for sharing this for the railroad family all over the world! Track laying and telegraph wires were the internet of the 19th century. Thanks to our ancestors, you are unforgotten!
Asa locomotive engineer form Sydney .Australia send our congratulations on this historic event at Promarty >Utah
.
I’m glad that you guys were able to go to this prestigious event
I enjoyed visiting the National Monument site a few years ago. They had volunteers doing a re-enactment at the time. They even asked members of the visiting audience to put on old clothes, and join in the "crowd" for the photograph ... I'm thinking it was during September of that year, and that's where I got my "golden geezer" senior pass for the National Parks ... it was a good deal, and back then, it was an even better deal ...
Oh my God....that's the beautiful moment...i wish i could be there
Great video! Glad you were able to go to the 150th Anniversary celebration and record to share with us.
Thank you!
Thank you so very much for being there and recording this most beautiful ceremony, it brought tears to my eyes and and lump to my throat watching the re-enactment. It actually made me feel as though I was there when the Golden Spike was driven, it was such a Monumental occasion for the United States. It's wonderful to see the efforts of so many who helped to build the rails have not been forgotten. God Bless You. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. 🎉🚂🚂🎉🎆🎇🎆🎇

That governor is a very likeable man! Such a lovely celebration.
Wonderful! I wish I had been on hand to witness this momentous occasion. Thank you for documenting it! One day, I hope to make a pilgrimage to this hallowed site that truly represents the culmination of a monumental effort to unite a continent and a nation by fledgling members of this nation who sacrificed so much for so little.
_Happy Belated National Train Day_
Great coverage! Wish I could've attended the event.
Thank you, EJ!
Awesome video
Thank you!
Yes definitely
i assume the Central Pacific “Jupiter” 60 and Union Pacific 119 are recreations ?
yes both are replica of the originals
It's fairly clear that this was the practice, given that there aren't seething mobs of people involved. Anyway, I'm sure it all led to a better presentation.
All I can say is...."Hip hip, hooray!......"
*blows whistle*
I have the original David hewes Golden Spike replica that is made of very durable pvc plastic
