    • @jormugand5578

Dallas is in Texas which is the center of the US oil/gas industry. The government of Dallas and Texas knows who they are beholden to. Even cities with cycling lanes aren't safe with drivers constantly disregarding bicyclists - driving into the bike lane to make a turn without checking for cyclists, double-parking in the bike lane thereby forcing bicyclists into street traffic, etc.

    • @Metal0sopher

@@jormugand5578 Cycling lanes should not be on major roads. Some residential streets sure, but the US has so much space. They could build separated bike lanes, through back allies, fields, abandoned tracks, under power lines, all over the place, and connect them all with underpasses, bridges, etc. Many people like me would use them all the time reducing both cars and bikes on the road. A win win for all.

No defense of the driver intended, but if I was a cyclist I would put LIGHTS on my bicycle (flashing rear light at minimum). Also, mirrors can be a life saver, along with not stopping directly behind another vehicle, risking being 'sandwiched' by a driver from behind. As an avid cyclist, this is the exact reason I refuse to cycle on streets. Yes, I will absolutely get the ticket for riding on sidewalks. However, in 35 years of cycling I have never received a citation for being on the sidewalk. I have been stopped by police and had discussions, but the officers always agree. Safer on the sidewalks. People today are just as likely to run over me as they were 35 years ago. My bike stands no chance against a car. My life is too important to challenge cars on a street. If there are no sidewalks I avoid that route.

Turning, slowing up traffic…pretty obvious with passing cars they not up to road speed, not pulling to the right of the lane ( shoulder) to allow the flow of traffic..aka passing which is a hazard if a vehicle or bike is slowing traffic they’ll cause a accident. As a bike rider I only access roads to access bike paths…..and I’m aware of and considerate of drivers!

      1) because they have the right to control their lane from wherever they wish, same as a car or motorcycle; and they were riding in a group and
      2) when people ride on the side of the road, impatient people try to brush past them without waiting for a gap in opposing traffic to pass them with legitimately and then sideswipe them knocking them down anyway. This way cars have to actually "pass", although obviously with a homicidal maniac like this guy behind them there is no safe place anywhere on the road and someone in the front of the group should carry an RPG or PIAT to level the playing field some.
Also, youd be hard pressed to find a vehicle in the US made in the last 20 years that was much less than 3,000#. And the average is prolly closer to 4,000 with all the pickups and SUVs.

I really don't know the answer. I do know that it isn't putting the blame on the courts. This has been going on for years, long before the "i'm a victim" mentality of today. The only answer that I see is to make the punishment so severe that it acts as a deterrant. Just because you are higher in the social order, should not get you special treatment. Imagine that you knew that if something happened, you would go to jail, lose your job, your family would lose the house, your children would suffer and Perry Mason and Ben Matlock together could not get you off. Would you then still take a drink and drive? If so, you have a problem and need to get help. The judges are elected by us. Some are appointed by people we ellect. it will take more than people complaining on youtube to fix this. It starts with us. do not drink and drive.

I know this is supposedly safer for them. But the video proves other wise. If they had been riding single file near the curb the chances are they wouldn't have even been hit. But even if they were, they would have just been grazed and probably knocked off onto the grass, and not run over.

This is not the road people use to access the airport. It's a very low-traffic road used by airport employees and local people. I've seen cyclists there a million times, it's a popular road to cycle on. There's plenty of room and visibility, and the only reason there was an accident is the idiot driver was drunk.

But even if they were, they would have just been grazed and probably knocked off onto the grass, and not run over. And riding a circuit around a busy airport is the best place they could find to ride? Seriously? Take responsibility for your own safety. Don’t ride in dangerous places. @@gibbsm The police do not agree with you or he would have been charged with attempted murder, not aggravated assault. The facts are that there was a good amount of space between the drunk driver's car and the curve. If they were riding single file as close to the curve as possible, there would have been no collision. Encountering wacko cyclists riding in the middle of high speed traffic lanes like that is every driver's worst nightmare. Just about a week ago I was driving in the right lane just after sunrise. The sunlight was not yet hitting the road surface so it was pretty dark. The car in front of me suddenly moved to the left lane. I thought it was because the right lane was ending soon. But then I spotted a cyclists riding in the middle of the lane with no lights of any kind. I swerved to the left lane with about 50 feet to spare. Fortunately for the cyclists I was not drunk or distracted, or he would be dead. Because I was driving about 55 mph. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, and riding a bike in front of high speed motor vehicle traffic is just plane stupid.
