    Hi everyone, one thing I forgot to mention was to check out 'The Lure Fishing Podcast' hosted by Cormac Walsh. So far there are 4 episodes which are available on Spotify (absolutely free) from some great anglers including, Michael Kelly (the creator of Evobass lures) Henry Gilbey, Marcin Kantor and myself. Here's the link if you’d like to have a listen, thanks!

      Hi mate i commented on another video before if you remember me last year. I only just seen this video for beginners and was glad i found it. Id like to tell you a little about my situation now. Ive only just started lure fishing for bass been around 7 or 8 times but havnt caught a bass yet. It feels like until you have caught your first bass your confidence is as poor as ever and your thought patterns are negative because you havnt caught a bass yet. But im determined as ever to get my first one and i have the drive passion even though i havnt caught a bass yet. I got some surf seeker lures 2 white pearl ones as i heard this is the top colour for that lure. Also a black pearl one and the blue seeker. Im just fishing off the beach at the moment. Are the surf seekers all i need for the beach as far as lures go? Problem is i dont have transport and im limited to a few locations. Id also like to ask did you find it difficult to catch your first ever bass and did it take a while until you did? Id love to hear your story. I just subscribed because i forgot last year. A big fan of yours! Hope to hear from you again. Thanks mate.

      @@ianroberts1417 Hi mate. Yeah, when you’re first starting out it isn’t uncommon to be blanking all the time. The best advice I could give you would be to not let the confidence fade. You will catch a bass at some point and once you do, you can build on that. If you’re only fishing 1 venue then I’d suggest fishing all states of tide, from low to high, then from high to low again. It’ll also be worth fishing it at first and last light too, plus in complete darkness. As far as the lures go, the seekers are great, I don’t use them too often myself but they’re a good lure. If there’s surf on your beach then fish the seekers in the white water. Any sandeel lure will do very well too. Could be a savage gear or westin, anything like that. It took me ages to catch my first bass! I fished a handful of venues and used the same lure constantly. It’s worth having a good variety of lures to cover all bases. It’s also worth speaking to anyone else who may fish the beach you go to. Be sure that bass are actually present there and that you’re not wasting your time and effort. Good luck with the fishing and I hope you catch one soon! Cheers.

    Have fished off and on much of my life (now a 70yr old but still thankfully fit and able) and have managed certain types of fish quite well but fishing for BASS has always been a desire and dream but has always eluded me excepting occasional “lucky” and accidental hits!
    Videos and blogs like yours is JUST WHAT I HAVE NEEDED and I now see how ill prepared I was on my occasional Bass hunts!!
    I now know why I often blanked and at least something of what to do now to correct my mistakes (I hope)…
    You are a GodSend and I thank you sincerely!!
    Please keep going with the tips and suggestions, they are well appreciated.
    Kind Regards.
    Steve.

For casting distance.

    My tip, and the biggest game changer for me, is to fish at night- bigger fish, and more sport overall.

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  Год назад

      Yes night fishing is generally a good time to target bass as they tend to come in that little bit closer to shore. It's actually pretty crazy sometimes, I've been out with smash fishing wading in water no deeper then knee deep and the bass will just swim around you!

    Thanks again Cal, knowledge is the key! Since our last conversation I have bit the bullet and got myself a wider selection of lures, gravity stick kit, a couple of IMA Sasukes and a surface Patchinco to add to my other, ever growing selection 😂. I am going to get the navionics app shortly when I have more time to study it, the relief shading option looks brilliant for scoping marks out, gullys and ground, boulder beds ect. Hoping this will help my trips on the boat or from the shore 👍

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL

      Ahh nice. All of those lures will come in handy and definitely do the trick. It's a good time of year for the gravity sticks, worked slowly over rough ground. Thanks. Yeah sometimes it can seem as though you’re not doing something the right way but once you start catching regularly, it starts to make a bit of sense. I personally don’t pay too much attention to the diameter of braids. I use anything from 0.20mm down. Most braids I use are about 20lb breaking strength so they’re usually about 0.16mm. 👍🏼

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  Год назад +1

      Cheers mate. Big swell can be good, but it can also be difficult to fish in. Generally big swell means a lot of weed in the water too so it can be difficult to find the right area to fish. Usually big swell means good fishing though but of coarse, you have to be careful when fishing around big swells.

    What’s your thoughts on hard lures with single hooks does it effect the swim action of the lure? And do you miss a lot of bites as I’ve seen a lot of people in the uk using single hooks..

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  Год назад +2

      Overall, I’d say that using single hooks doesn’t effect the way most lures swim. On some it can do but I think it helps to use the right size singles for each lure so it’s balanced right. You can miss fish every now and then yeah.
