Classic Game Room reviews CTR CRASH TEAM RACING for PlayStation from Naughty Dog and Sony released in 1999. CTR Crash Team Racing is a kart racing game like Mario Kart with the Crash Bandicoot characters. Far from being a "me too" kind of game, CTR delivers awesome driving with excellent track designs, great visuals and smooth gameplay where driving is the priority instead of drifting for boost. Mario Kart and Sonic Racing fans or anyone who loves video game kart racing should dig CTR because the gameplay is super fun and the challenge rocks!

I'm 15 now and this game was my childhood. The soundtrack is drilled into my head and I remember the intro to the game perfectly. I wish with The Last of Us it said "another naaaaaauggghty dooooog creation!"

God, I played this game so much in my youth that I still remember every single track perfectly.
I wish my PS2 was still working so I could play it again.
The fact that this is still so playable, and still looks cool thanks to it's art style, prove it's one of the greats. Still my favourite kart racer ever.

Well Sony/Activision wants to see if Crash Bandicoot is worth anything. They're not keeping the series hostage. They are testing it.

i still remember back then when i got a ps1 and this for christmas. i played it for hours and hours. so many good memories with this game.
Got it again for PS3/Vita for $1 a few weeks ago. Man, such a solid game despite its age, Naughty Dog knew how to keep a game balanced and had very good mechanics (like the fruit upgrading weapon abilities)
like battlefront 2, its a game that you can just pick up again and find you sunk hours into, just absolutely amazing games!
I still have this game and I play it every now and then. My absolute favorite childhood game. I don't care what anyone says. This is way better than Mario Kart...
This game was based on drifting and I loved it using the nitro you got from every successful drift!

After I played this game with my friends, everybody got this game.
I just hope Mark reviews all games ever. Like, in general. Because I'm pretty sure I could listen to his voice forever.

Can't believe Naughty Dog went from Crash Bandicoot to making games like Uncharted and The Last Of Us....just amazing!! :)
Crash Bandicoot brings back some WONDERFUL memories. And Jaks II and III were PHENOMENAL.
This review takes me back to all the time I spent playing this game when I was younger. I absolutely loved it. Perhaps I need to dust off my old PS1 and play it for a little bit again.
My brother and I still play this today. So many great memories. CTR had me laughing and having fun whereas MK64 had me swearing at the screen when I got bombed by a blue shell for the fifth time on the final lap.
I was an extreme addict with the Crash Bandicoot series so much that I bought a Playstation 1&2 for these games, Naughty Dog should continue making more games of this series cause they did an amazing job with these games

From what I have experienced, this is the best kart racing game you can find. When I saw and played Mario Kart, it didn't come too close to as much as fun this game is!

This game was my childhood :) It's just so vast and challenging, it took me a while to get good at it. The story mode was pretty freaking awesome for a racing game.
I was way too good at this game, played it so much I still have the controls, cornering lines, shortcuts and power slide rhythm etched in my memory, I always had to give up the controller or nobody else would win a single race or arena lmao.......good times!

Oh man CTR was one of my favorite games for the PLayStation...I wish i could go back in time to play this again with my friends.
The codes for wampa's is down down right right down down, For the masks is left triangle right left Circle right down down.
Hopping off of jumps to get landing boosts is also important. Boosts overall are very important.

Got this original disc on psOne and the PSN download. I play this even today, one of the best games ive played hands down.
Play the game with the speedometer on next time you play. When collecting 10 fruit, yest it does make weapons more powerful, but it does increase your top speed too. I've noticed that back in the day when racing with the speedometer on screen.
My first ever video game on the PS1. Those were the days, pure fun where you get enjoyment out of the game instead of angry competitiveness of other games like FIFA.

LOL it ALWAYS irritates me when i see people not power sliding also.
You don't need power sliding except for Time Trials. The CPU are that easy.
If power sliding means jumping around corners- that's what I've always done

This game and Diddy Kong Racing continue to be two of the absolute best racers ever made. I've completed the Nitro-fueled remake and I want to stream it and do it again.

Ok. That's a good and fair point. Warped was a fun game and I loved the menu music in that one and the "Wa" sound when you got a crystal or gem.
Personally this was my most played game of my childhood. I remember getting it, and then coming home and playing it for about 3-4 hours straight. My parents were sleeping the whole time while I was enjoying the arcade mode.
Whenever my friends would come over, this would be the game we would all play. In my personal opinion, this game is one of the best cartoon kart racers of all time. Even though I'm a huge fan of CTR, I still can't deny the fact that MK64 is technically the better game overall

that part where there is the huge jump to get on to the side platform the trick to that is speed and how well you're power sliding

In addition to Mario Kart, we can see some influences from the excellent Diddy Kong Racing in regards to the adventure mode and boss fights. CTR is a great kart racer in its own right as well. But speaking of DKR, I'd love to see a review of it. Along with Crash, it was pretty much the only other kart racer that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the game that started the whole sub-genre.
It's still my favourite kart racer to this day.

God this game was the holy grail for me out of all the ps1 games i had as a child
well, drifting is always important if you want the best times in any kart racer, and was very important here if you wanted to unlock Oxide, but as Mark said, it doesn't RELY on drifting, unlike Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing or its awesome sequel where you'll be drifting for 90% of the lap and its the only way to really go around corners

You can try a CD repair Kit but if it is snapped or Chipped your out of luck, If it has minor or deep scratches it may help it freeze less.
