@dwdependableweather531 - I remember Smooth Jazz on KKSF 103.7 out of San Francisco when I was in my 20's. I would go to bed with KKSF on very low and at the time, I lived in an upstairs apartment. The couple below me said they could hear my music but didn't mind because it was soothing, low and even helped them sleep. When I would fly down to Long Beach to visit my GF at the time (yep, long-distance love affair), I would listen to KTWV (The Wave) out of LA with the same platform as KKSF. I think they were sister stations. Sometimes I wished I could go back to those days.
Had the opportunity and pleasure to see Mr. DH play this song at the Camden Jazz Fest back in 1993. The 2 day weekend extravaganza was spectacular!!! In 30 years it has yet to be duplicated !!!! Bring back smooth jazz!!!
Good music like this has always had a place in my heart. Almost every song in my collection is tied to a special or specific memory. This one takes me back to carefree days in my life. Only one radio station in my area ever played this and when that station decided to "change format" and said the desired audience needed more popular music, I cried. I do not listen to radio anymore, only my playlists and my cd collection. Original music hardly exists now. I am glad I got to experience real music!
What you are saying is so Profound, I know longer listen to Radio anymore.... But I think that is About to Change We Need Live Air Waves.... I used to listen to Smooth Jazz 93.3 WJZI.... We have to bring it back.... This is one of my favorite songs.....
94.7 KTWV in Los Angeles went from smooth jazz to “soft hip hop”. I wasn’t pleased one bit. Now, smooth jazz is relegated to Watercolors on SiriusXM. It’s sad.
Same here..New York..CD101.9…the BEST of Smooth Jazz!! I was speechless when they changed the format…haven’t listened to radio since..wish they’d revisit some of these classics on SiriusXM
Agree William, listened to this on WJZZ, what a great era for jazz radio in Detroit. Tropic of Cool and Always There by Incognito are a couple of my favorite jazz tunes.
@@williamsmith6872 BROTHER SMITH, MY SOUL THIRSTED AFTER THAT MUSIC...I WAS ADDICTED BECAUSE IT IS REAL MUSIC--- AND IT WAS FANTASTIC!! MUCH LOVE TO YA.
OMG!! reminds me of 1996, WFSJ 97.9 in Jax, FL, they would play this song nearly everyday, epitome of what smooth jazz should sound like! Great arrangement by Chuck Loeb 😀
I absolutely love this song! I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Harrison when he came into New Orleans and rented a car from me as I worked for Les Matthews at Dollar Rent A Car. I had the pleasure of hearing him at Jazz Fest and have loved his music every since. Years later as a producer for Andre Trevigne at WWL 870 I tried very hard to get Andre to adopt this song as her song. In an attempt to help build her following, I recommended that we adopt this song and play it when her show came on the radio and also coming back from commercial breaks. This was after Andre's show was moved from the "Not Ready for Prime Time" 9-11pm to "Ready for Prime Time" 8am-11am as her show rocked. I also wanted to start a. I they jazz show with Andre and to have musical guests who were from New Orleans, and I wanted the first guest of this new radio show to be....none other than the incredibly talented "Donald Harrison". Unfortunately as a producer some of your ideas are used and some aren't.
Smoothness at its finest! I wanna say the first time I heard this song was on a day trip to another institution with one of my professors from undergrad. We listened to watercolors all the way there and I was familiar with most of the rotation/catalogue, but this one really made me perk up! I'll always think back to that excellent day road trip when I hear this song. I just wish that it were back on Spotify. Thanks for sharing the link to the other version! Man, I just can't get over how nice and smooth this one is. Thanks for your upload! Such a blessing!
This is one of my favorites from back in the day. WBGO, the jazz station in Newark played it a few weeks ago. I was surprised that it wasn't on any of the streaming services.
Donald Harrison's 'Tropic of Cool' puts me in a really good place. Such a wonderful song. Thank you Mr. Harrison for sharing your wonderful gift with mankind! And a special thank you to GDelva2003 for uploading this song! YASSSS! Oh and the guitar solo at the end is straight fire! \ ( ^ _ ^ ) /
The Tropic of cool is a great title for this song due to the fact the way it's arranged, put's one in the mind of sitting in the shade or on a beach in the South Pacific or Caribbean. The warm and smooth Soprano Sax is just like the warm water hitting one's feet as you sit and relax.
I love this song, it suits so much its title, this is totally amazing. It makes me remember the time were I was living in Caribbean. I can feel some real cool atmosphere there !
This demonstrates what the best of the best is. In a bad mood crank it up to hear some of the best music ever played!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simply the best. Play on Donald!!!!
Can't go wrong with Donald Harrison. 'The Tropic of Cool,' soon after its release, was my introduction to this tremendously talented artist. Instantly fell in love with the song and had to add it to my collection, which I did. Now, every time I hear it, I know I made the right decision. I'm glad I did.

What a beautiful song! Takes me to a wonderful place every time
Childhood in the mid '90s!
Why isn't this released on Spotify? Takes me back to Smooth Jazz heaven in the 90's.
It WAS on Spotify, because it was on my smooth jazz playlist. But for some reason, it's been removed (the bastards!).
Can’t find it on Pandora or Apple Music either!
I can’t find it Apple Music
