Julian got me over a 10 year guitar hiatus. Just emulating some of his licks made all things possible again. I can get lost in it - that was always my goal.
So great :) I dig Julian played there his Tele again. Not that I didn't like his Gretsch like guitar, archtop or so, but somewhat to me the Tele feels like extension of his mind, he's so articulate and expressive with it. Love it.
This man playing directly into a Deluxe Reverb and has more dynamics, touch, feel, and just sounds than you'd ever think was possible. I'm certainly inspired!
I have to agree- the Telecaster is his guitar. He sounds great on his Collings, no doubt, but THIS fluidity, THESE dynamics…unbelievable. Thanks for sharing this masterpiece of guitar playing.
I'm surprised I have never seen Julian play through Milkman amps. They are from San Francisco and I know he grew up around there. They are incredible 60's Fender sounding amps to me. All hand made. Check em out!
He often uses Magic Amps I believe (also hand-made in CA). Re-created, hand-wired, PR and DR amps that are as close to vintage specs as humanly possible but with better speakers, transformers and other components. Julian’s sound is so clean and open I’m not sure Milkman would be a good fit, great as they are. They have a bit of a distinctive Milkman burr on edge-of-breakup and it seems Julian also favours more headroom than he’d get it of the smaller Milkmans.
Hey where was this show at ? I live in wyandotte downriver from the D. Wish I would have known about this one. Just recently got into his music. So good
Hi Joe-the trio played at the jazz festival downtown on Saturday of Labor Day weekend and this is from a workshop that took place prior to the concert.

I think this is my new favourite version of this. What a masterclass in dynamics.
💯
Wow. His creativity seems to know no bounds. Just an incredible meeting of brain, creativity and playing ability. 🙏
This man… no word… as good as humble, stratospheric in every way. Crazy what he can do with a Tele ! Thanks
How have I not heard of him ever..... I need to go outside more, fking incredible

There are a lot incredible guitar virtuosi out there, but few have the both the technique, taste, and feel of Julian. Man this was great.
also that versatile improv
my mind is blown everytime i hear him play
A unique Artist! His sound, his tone, his fluency, and he touches your heart. Love him! 😎👍👍👍🎼🎵🎶🎸🎶🎵🎼
There's LOTS of great guitarists in the world. None of them are better than this genius.
Closer to being FREE more than any guitarist I've ever seen. So much JOY!

1:30 to 1:50 what an absolutely filthy transition. Genius.

I don’t even have words for this anymore.
I do: Frisell
I didn’t make it to Detroit on Saturday and I was so bummed. I couldn’t be more thankful that you posted this. Absolutely phenomenal.
I still prefer listening to him play the tele! Thanks!
With love to this great artist from Jerusalem!
I'm such a fan. Thank you for sharing!

P90 on the neck position... what happened to him?

Hi-this was a workshop at a hotel next to Hart Plaza downtown. His trio played at the jazz festival later in the afternoon.
Wow
Very Nice!
What a living legend. Imagine picking up a tele directly into a fender tube amp and just playing that magic
A lot of his peers play with pedals and amp distortion and lose the transparency, touch and dynamics that Julian seems to revel in.
I play a G&L ASAT through a 70s Fender pro reverb……and it sounds Nothing like that! ☹️….he really is a superb player 👍🍷
Nice ballroom
Pick it Son!
How does he slide into notes without moving his fingers is what I want to know. This guy isn’t human .
I love this guitarist. However, I’m more into his old classic style études.
Interesting
Superblues
I wonder how a lesson in a class would look like with him. i dont even know what just happend here
Nice playing and he needs a foot stool.
apparently not though
A Julian mavvaff.....
Seriously...
Una promessa mantenuta
WTF? Where in Detroit? Ugghh.

@@DN-jf5qp Ahh. I was out of town. Rats. Thanks for the info.
My guess is this was somewhere in the RenCen as you are looking west down the river. I did not know he was in town recently.
