    Has anyone ever heard a Telecaster tone so sweet? That’s not the guitar or the amp. That’s pure mastery over articulation, phrasing, note choice and timing. The guitarist is the tone.

    • @StuartwasDrinkell
      @StuartwasDrinkell 10 месяцев назад +1

      With original pups too... the tone on his p90 in the bridge blonde tele, is also lush. In an interview he said he lives in the neck position... i bought a usa tele cause of this guy, teetering on the edge of break up in the neck, tone pot pulled back a quarter...BLISS!

    • @lucasholmgrenmusic
      @lucasholmgrenmusic 3 месяца назад +1

      Tone is definitely in the fingers but I'd bet he also rolled back volume and tone knob a bit which many guitarists don't even consider. It makes the Tele extremely diverse in tone. Before I owned one I thought it was just a Strat with two pickups. It ain't. Tele is a Tele. And yea only Julian can make it sound like Julian

    • @gitsurfer27
      @gitsurfer27 2 месяца назад +2

      Just because a dialled in tone has dynamic response, it doesn't mean the tone is in the fingers. The tone is in the rig, the nuance is in the fingers. If he controls the tone lets give him a $10 starter amp and see how great he sounds then. He's a great player, but he's not controlling the soundscape, nor is any guitarist. People who say that don't know what they're talking about.

    This guitarist's tone is phenomenal! When he digs in and plays that Telecaster hard that little tweed amp he's playing really responds. I usually don't like jazz guitar because of the flat, clean tone and smooth technique traditional players use. This guy has obviously borrowed some things from rock and blues and the result is pretty impressive.

    • @gbtimmon
      @gbtimmon 3 года назад +15

      "flat, clean tone," honestly I don't know what jazz guitarists you're talking about! The good ones I know of, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Django et. al. all are big on dynamic swings and emotive playing. The only person I can think of that I'd describe that way would be Pat Metheny and I never cared much for his elevator music style. It's always interesting to see other people's interpretations and how they differ from my own!

    • @dokkenrox
      @dokkenrox 3 года назад +16

      @@gbtimmon I'm talking about your traditional hollowbody jazzbox guitar, clean tone with hardly any dirt in the signal, and what sounds like the tone knob turned way down. Sometimes they even strum with their thumb instead of using a pick. I guess a nicer way of describing it would maybe be a "warm, full-bodied" clean tone or something like that. I prefer something a bit more raunchy, for instance at 3:06 when Lage digs in and starts getting a lot of dirt as he plays louder.

    This guy is really leaning into what makes the guitar unique. It can be sweet and quiet, but then it can be absolutely noisey and nasty. And those beading harmonies when you play something close but dissonant feel very unique to the guitar, and he highlights that sound a lot. That tone where its crisp when its quiet, but then crunches up when you put a lot of volume into what you're playing. Really a fantastic player.

    Would be fantastic to get some insight into your specs! I know tone lies in ones head, but to some degree the rig helps! Like string gauges, pickups and amplifiers, would be great! Awesome work on Archlight!

      Not to preempt a reply from the man himself but...
      www.premierguitar.com/articles/24096-julian-lage-surrender-to-the-twang
      "Right now, my touring rig is a 1954 Fender blackguard Tele and a ’58 tweed Champ-no reverb and only five watts."
      but the rig at this gig may differ.
