gtr coming out of all its history: folk, blues, Indian, SongBook, bebop, harmonies spilling down into modern jazz. Creative improv that is spontaneous, displays astute musical personality with grace, charm & wit. I agree- 21st century at last
Nice tone from the sax player. So matured , and I am a guitar player so every note played by Julian entered my body soul and spirit. I almost fainted as if I have never heard the sound of a guitar before.. Nice work.. All other players did great and if I start analysing there work it's going to be an epistle..
At 7:42 he TELLS the musicians where he's gonna go and at 8:04 or therebouts he goes there. When I first heard him a few years back, for some reason (maybe his old, "classic" fat dead jazz guitar tone) I dismissed him as just another retro-bunny; he was SNEAKING UP on me, I swear. Or he'd painted his toybox in camouflage while smuggling in the tricks. 8:15 to 8:23 is currently in the running for the best eight seconds of the 21st century (I collect these things)... or maybe, just maybe, it really WAS the ol' beater Tele? Keith Richards was right after all! Keep it up, Julian, maybe someday you CAN rival "Tumbling Dice".. ;>)
Ha. I love your response. (What's a "retro-bunny?") /// I think he's still in his twenties, and for a jazz guitarist, that's a babe. Imagine this guy at forty. If you can - I can't, really.
Wow, two musicians who have really made a name for themselves! I saw Miguel Zenon in KC the other week and it was amazing! Would love to see Julian Lage some day. His new stuff is awesome.
ive seen julian a dozen + times over the last decade and its always different, fresh, present and brilliant. he's a special guy and a special guitarist. we're lucky to have him
sheer, utter beauty - Grows like a living thing : new players have brought Theodore Walter Rollins right into the mix . He should be so proud that the seeds he scattered have born such juicy fruit !
Guitar solo is incredible... But I expect nothing but perfection from lage at this point. What really surprised me was the sax player he was phenomenal. I loved how he started by quoting sonny Rollins solo and then he did his own thing love it!

It's Miguel Zenon. Check his discography and his quality won't surprise you. He's worked with some amazing musicians.
I don't know what has happened but Julian has gone from like being good to absolutely great in like a year? He just spiced his humble playing with a kick of confidence and now it's always on top
Gary Burton is finally blossoming on him. You know when you learn a ton of theory and practice a bunch that it doesn't show up in your playing for a while? I think that's what's happening. He has been always around the greatest at improvising. Gary Burton is a genius at improvisation. There's a youtube video of his class. Julian played with him for a looong time. Check the Tiny Desk they did together too.
fantastic work by all! really enjoyed trying to focus on Julian's comping, during the sax solo, and then he kinda steals the show with his solo! excellent playing.
Jajaja me encanta su acente "mas talde" y además uffff julian sí puede tocar ayayay me da ganas de bailar Bueno, cabe destacar todos están "killin it" no?
Guitarman Music 0 seconds ago The guitar solo was great , it would have been more crazier if the bassist was providing the solid groove. I would love to see how John Scofield would approach this tune
Killing how Julian jumped on the last sax lick to begin his solo. It's something I do when I can but that was quick!
So great to see a jazzer using a telecaster
Éd bickert and ted green complet the trilogy, maybe Bill frissel to

Guitar solo starts at 6:12 Wow, wow, wow!!! What a melodic, awesome, _masterful_ guitar solo. Mind-blowing. : )
Mind blowing.
at 6:24 my mind stuttered for a moment

Man, I always go back to this video and one by Scott Henderson - "All Blues Outside Masterclass". Something about those videos just kills me.

Guitar solo is a dream, all the guitarists must learn this solo!

great sax solo but too much longer
Julian is one of the few true musical prodigies of our day.
Miguel, this is the best sax solo of St. Thomas that I've heard! Classic and modern lick lines! Congrats bro!!!
Other than OG Sonny Rollins I hope! There's no topping Rollin's version in my opinion.
I don't know what has happened but Julian has gone from like being good to absolutely great in like a year? He just spiced his humble playing with a kick of confidence and now it's always on top
I'd probably say he's gone from being insanely brilliant to being one of the greatest of all time!
he probably finally started doing heroin
@Adrian MG so very not funny, wisecracker

He is also an extremely good listener, you can hear how he picks up an all the ideas he hears. Especially from the drummer.
I keep coming back to Julian's solo😶😶😶Exceptional playing by all
I love the way the saxophone maintains the Caribbean feal during his solo?
Julian's solo made me smile...so good
Great Performance
I really like this.
seriously, this is pure tonal gold. Hats off to all musicians involved !!
Loved the bass/drum solo
WOW, so unbelievable guitar solo.
Julian Lage in 🇵🇷 ❤
Listen at the Julian scale run at the beginning of the solo... same phrase as the the end of the sax solo. Simple but genial...
And he develops it gradually, later.. great mind ❤
Ignore those that make you fearful and sad, that degrade you back towards disease and death.

Julian is so melodic! It's insane.
He knows where the good notes are but it mostly comes down to his rhythm and groove.
fantastic work by all! really enjoyed trying to focus on Julian's comping, during the sax solo, and then he kinda steals the show with his solo! excellent playing.
Oh my... Julian. What a solo, for God's sake. So unusual and musical.
