    Walked into my local shop yesterday to pick up a telecaster that was being repaired, saw a knock-off aged LP hanging on the wall, took it down, played it and it sounded incredible and played great all over the neck, took it home on loan to try for a few days, played it for an hour right after I got home and immediately called to buy it. I now see that it's a Gary Moore sig copy like this. Tuners replaced w/ Grovers, CTS pots, SD Antiquity pickups, upgraded bridge/stop...THE NICEST LP I HAVE EVER PLAYED. The only question at this point is stability/durability. But, frankly, those are issues with any set-neck guitar, even the "nicest" custom shop Gibsons. This thing is killer.

    My first Chibby will be here any day now-Page #2 aged. I have accumulated everything I need with quality top shelf parts: Seymour Duncan '59 PAFs, 920D push/pull with orange drops, 500K pots, switchcraft switch and plug, Faber complete bridge/tailpiece reliced kit, Grover tuners, Gibson reliced pickup rings, reliced pick guard, Schaller strap locks. Looking forward to the build, inspired by your vids.

      Oh no, not you too Steve. My problem with these guitars is the trademark theft, take Gibson off the headstock, and then I have no problem with what you’re doing. I’ve seen these guitars end up in kids hands and they were totally taking advantage of, they thought they bought a real Gibson. Dang man.

    The new pick ups sound amazings. Saw Kirk Hammett on Howard Stern with Metallica Band playing it and talking about. He met with the guy who had it and brought it for him to play it and as soon as he played it he knew he was not giving it back and he had to have it. He plays it with the band and he said is never more than 8ft from him. Rumors were that he paid 2million he said he did not but he he did not say how much. It is in the right hands. He appreciates it and makes great use of it and others enjoy the sounds of it. He said the other member of Metallica played before him but it did not speak to him. :-)

      I can bet that the tone difference isn't worth the money. For sure the real Greeny is a great guitar, with stellar finish etc. But to be honest I doubt that 90% of the listeners would hear the difference in a blind test. Proper setup goes a long way.

    I got a used Chibby spalted maple LP ~3 years ago super cheap. I gutted it to a husk and replaced everything. Grover locking tuners, bone nut, fret level, Tone Pros bridge and stop bar, Seymour Duncan SH-18's, 4 CTS push/pull pots wired for full 21 tone Jimmy Page set-up w/PIO caps, switchcraft 3-way and output jack, and brother, beg your pardon, but this thing is a monster! I've got the Gibson 50's LP, a LP Jr., a RI '61 SG, a Flying V, and this thing plays and sounds as good as any of the others - along with costing way, way less. I use it all the time and mostly leave the expensive stuff at home.

    Did the sustain improve from part 1? What do you think helped the most? I had to sand and polish my frets for a while, but it feels really good now. I replaced my bridge with another cheapy, but less cheap than the Chibby Greeny that I had lying around. I replaced the tuners as well. The nut was ok, just a little sanding ,and some nut sauce, and she stays in tune better than some of my WAY more expensive guitars. Thanks for the videos! I've really enjoyed them!

    Steve, in the next part, could you go through the pros and cons behind choosing something like this as a mod platform vs. say an Epiphone or a Japanese brand replica (if headstock shape matters) or even one of the more 'reputable' Amazon/online brands (like Firefly and what not). Just curious because I've heard that there's a lot of variance in quality when purchasing Chibsons. While I'm not really in the market for something like this, I find it very intriguing especially since the parts (even just the pickups) cost multiple times that guitar already. Thanks!

    Rick Beato just did an interview with Kirk Hamett. They talk a little about the Greeny sound. you should check it out. Some say its wiring, some say its reversing the pickup, but most agree that the magnet was switched around and then the pickup installed upsidedown. just installing the pickup upside down does not change the tone to the out of phase sound that Greeny is famous for. Also, in the middle position is where the out of phase sound comes from.

Please forgive me if you have, but have you by any chance shared the seller, of that "Greeny?" Because man, high frets, replacing pickups, whatever the case may be? Considering Gibsons quality control and cost might as well buy a chibson

  • @jbbeaudry
    @jbbeaudry 9 месяцев назад

    I must say it’s the best sounding Chibson I’ve ever heard.
    Of course it’s mostly due to the Custom Buckers, the same I have on my R8. For 500 a pair, no wonder.
    My main concern is why they put the Gibson logo on the headstock and the fake stamps behind. I mean : they could make a point just showing they can make reasonable guitars for very little money, that you can mod to playing somewhere near the real thing. Why not just use a Chibson logo, or Gi Song or whatever would give them away without fooling anyone.
    Second concern is that you need to know your stuff and/or put a hefty amount of money to get them to the point you like them. The new pickups, setup etc bring that guitar to roughly 1000$
    Quite a lot for a knockoff.
    Scary though that they are catching up ; quality is increasing.

    Steve, great work, dare you to answer this honestly, lol, or anyone; as a bold project, Steve, you are chasing the tonality, the spirit of Greeny (not gary moore - the guitar is defined by Peter GREEN and Les Paul, not Gary, gary is a derivative of green ) then you are chasing pure mathematics; numbers don't lie; humans do, which is 99.8% the out-of-phase frequencies and pots of a $2 Million dollar greeny as measured electronically in the custom shop on a multimeter , they don't line up with greeny, and other guitars!
