- In this video I had the opportunity to speak with Wes. He is a Chinese American who decided to leave his life in Los Angeles California behind to move to Colombia and learn Spanish. He did just that and he has documented his entire journey through the Spanish language and Colombian culture on his channel. Good video showing that sometimes it's not about how you learn, but how much dedication you have and how much you want something that will determine success. Also shows all different (opposites even) personalities can achieve success learning a language. We have Mike who is a good guy, is a respectful/humble human, has a great YT channel, isn't a chauvinist pig, doesn't contradict himself with almost every sentence and then we have, well, Wes. All personality types can do great things if they put their mind to it!

Him and I have a similar upbringing. Growing up here in San Diego the Mexican influence is very strong especially with restaurants and the population. It became almost a must to learn Spanish. Great video!

Mike, you have given me so much hope. I had basically thrown in the towel until I saw your video on how you learned Spanish in less than a year. I took notes and have inspired others to learn. Now, there are two people, I hope, that are going to study Spanish on their own but we will be each other's accountability buddies. Hopefully, we will be able to practice with and on each other. I spoke to one this evening and she got so excited about it, like I am, and thanked me for thinking of her. I can't wait to do this. Gracias for todo.

Acabo de volver desde Medellin hace una semana. Llevé 5 semanas en esa ciudad maravillosa. Tengo que acordar con las palabras que notan las ventajas de Medellin y Colombia en general; la naturaleza, el clima de Medellin, la amabilidad de la gente, o al menos la mayoría de gente. El barrio lo que me gustó el más fue Comuna 13. La energía era muy impresionante. Buena suerte con sus metas, chicos.

Esta es una gran charla. Es maravilloso escuchar las experiencias diferentes de vivir en otros países. También, me gustaron sus opiniones del "sueño americano". Además, me gusta siguiendo el progreso de aprendizaje de otros.
Volví a aprender español hace 4 meses después de muchos años. He estado usando el método inmersión total. Tengo nivel intermedio/avanzado. Hablo mucho con nativos que hablan poco inglés. Pero nunca he hablado con otras personas que están estudiando español.

@@DiseasedKodak I've heard from most that my book is very good for beginners so I'd start with mine and see how you like it. Everything is covered well in both mine and madrigal's, it would just be personal taste for explanations at that point. I tried making mine as direct as possible. Let me know what you think once you get into it please!

How doesn't he have many Medellin friends? They're so easy going. And he can get a wife there, he should be patient because colombian girls are not "easy", it's just a process. LOL he likes the colombian towns and not the big cities and I love living in big cities, that's why I love Bogotá, it just shows how different is the people XD

Very interesting listening to 2 young Spanish language students. I can understand both of you pretty well. I don't speak spanish as well as you guys. However, I understand fairly well if the speakers talk slow enough. Both of you do. Native speakers speak fast. That pretty much knocks me out of the game. Its interesting hearing you speak about living in Columbia. I live in Panama. My wife is Columbian and she does not speak English. Yes, I need to bone up on my Spanish.

A Columbian is someone from Columbia, South Carolina.
Sr Mike en mi comentario anterior olvidé decirle algo y ahora lo recordé y como yo pienso que usted es merecedor de todo lo que uno le pueda aportar a su aprendizaje del Español le voy a decir que al menos en Cuba cuando un estudiante copia del examen de otro estudiante cosa que no es permitida en ninguna parte del mundo ( imagino yo porque un examen es para saber si el estudiante aprende o no) entonces nosotros los cubanos utilizamos el verbo FIJARSE . Entonces usted se fijaba de su amigo mejicano en las pruebas de Español. Lo que significa que usted copiaba las respuestas a las preguntas del examen de du amigo. Sin embargo si usted en vez de mirar a las respuestas de su amigo es su amigo el que en voz muy bajita o simplemente con el movimiento de los labios le dice a usted la respuesta entonces se utiliza el verbo SOPLAR por ej ..... Mi amigo mejicano me soplaba las respuesta . Es decir si usted mira la respuesta ud se fija en los exámenes y si el otro estudiante es el que le dice a usted entonces le soplan las respuestas. Usted lo dijo bien con otras palabras y por supuesto que se entendió perfectamente pero si lo dice así entonces es un nativo cubano. Bueno creo que usted lo merece por su esfuerzo y su interés. La abuela cubana 👍
