I started seriously learning Spanish this year (it was my new year resolution). I'm currently around the b1 level. That said, it's amazing to see how I couldn't understand anything and once thought that you guys spoke "too fast"to now being able to get the gist of what was said and pick up new words or phrases that I don't know.

También soy un estudiante de medicina nigeriana. He aprendido español por 3 años pero tengo miedo de hablar y practicar con nativos. Que inspiración. Su acento suena muy bien y espero poder avanzar con mi nivel de español como ella. (Perdón si tengo muchos errores gramaticales 😅)

@@MikeBen yeah I think I have to agree. 10 years is a long time so it makes sense that it’s so fine tuned, but still that’s insane. People like that make me think in some sense it is a gift. Some people can’t speak their own language that well 😭
100% a gift! Just like some actors & people in general can mimic accents extremely well and while some actors can’t do another accent to save their lives. Some people generally have an aptitude for computer programming languages while others struggle. I believe it’s the same with languages, everyone can and has done it given the time but to differing levels and timescales. This is super impressive and makes me smile but personally the first goal is to understand and be understood- everything else is a bonus. It’s extremely hard to sound like a native- I know people with almost perfect accents that say one tiny thing and my mind spots it, so I’m comfortable that people will always know I’m a foreigner. If I can get to even 50% of her level, I’ll be more than happy!

There's a book called "mindset" by that debunks the myth of "You either have it or you don't" and just like any other skill, language and accent development is something you can work on. Let's take the stereotype of Asian students being good at math and Western students being bad at it. There was a study that showed that the reason western students weren't good at math was because they believe that mathematical ability was an innate/fixed trait of an individual. While Asian students believed that while math was difficult, if enough effort was put into learning it, they could get good at it.

@@ennvee1989 Hey, I left a comment on another channel not too long ago summarizing my method so I'll re-post it here for you: So when I started watching novelas, I could not understand anything that they were saying despite my four semesters in university. For me, they were just talking entirely too quickly and classes just didn’t help to be able to process Spanish as quickly as it was spoken. So what I ended up deciding to do was develop a little system where I watched the same scene in a novela five times and did different things each time. I’ll break it down here. *First Time*: I would watch the scene straight through initially with subtitles in Spanish (because without them, I honestly could not follow anything) and I would essentially try to see how much I could understand (at the beginning it was very little) *Second Time*: For the second time, I repeated the scene with Spanish subtitles, but this time I paused it and actually translated every single sentence on my own, using my dictionary or sometimes having to go to Google for certain regional vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. Here is where I’d pay attention to why things were said as they were said. Why preterite and not imperfect, why subjunctive, I noted the way natives expressed their thoughts, sentence structure, word order etc. So this part took the longest. *Third Time*: For the third time, I would now switch to English subtitles, so I could see how well I had done my translation. And for this step, it would require some rewinding and toggling back-and-forth between English and Spanish subtitles as I went through the scene to be able to follow exactly what had just been said and then switch to English to see it written. *Fourth Time*: The fourth time I went back to Spanish subtitles. Now that I’d translated everything and confirmed with English, I knew what was being said and I wanted a chance to pull it all together and hear it again in Spanish fluidly, straight through without stopping. *Fifth Time*: For the final time, I would remove subtitles entirely and use this to practice hearing comprehension. Like I said, at the beginning, I couldn’t understand anything so this step really helped me to develop my Spanish ear at the natural rhythm that Spanish is spoken. That’s essentially all that I did because outside of taking class in university, there was nothing else that I really knew to do at that time. With time I found that I no longer needed to go through the whole five step process because I was understanding so much more with less passes through the novela. So at this point, I would kind of play things by ear and only do the parts that I needed to. For example, if I listened to the scene for the first time and basically felt that I understood everything or most things, then I might skip the second part (the formal translation) and just jump straight to the third part with English subtitles to make sure that I did really capture everything that was being said. If I felt confident from there, then I may just skip to the fifth step and just remove subtitles to practice ear training. I found that after some time (a few months), I could just watch the novela straight through like a normal show without doing these steps and just focus on only paying attention to picking up new vocabulary and expressions. I never did watch without subtitles (outside of Step 5 for ear training), and even today that I speak fluently I still always have subtitles because I’m still constantly looking out for new expressions of vocabulary to expand my use of the language and have found that without subtitles, these can easily be missed. Depende, creo que de todas formas requiere bastante tiempo y trabajo pero es relativamente fácil de entender la gramática y todo eso. Comparado al Japonés o un idioma así, por supuesto se puede llamarlo fácil

I just found your channel and like the content. However you would reach a wider audience if you provode translations to english. These stories are so interesting but i dont really understand much of what is being said.
I understand your point but when your Spanish advances, trust me you will appreciate not having English subtitles. They are a huge distraction. I also get your point about reaching a bigger audience but that isn't my ultimate goal on RUclips. I upload this for fun, and to help. Without the subtitles is the best way to help IMO. Trust me you will understand with more time into learning the language.
Me da risa cuando dicen que alguien que aprende a hablar un idioma que no es el de ellos lo habla mejor que aquellos que son nativos de éste 😂😂😂. Es chistoso. Una cosa es tener comprensión de algo y hablarlo a un nivel decente y otro es tener la EXPERIENCIA de un nativo. Es virtualmente imposible que alguien que adquiere la habilidad de hablar un segundo lo haga al nivel de los nativos. Puedes comunicarte en ese idioma, sí, pero no lo vas a comprender, sentir, escuchar, hablar como lo hace alguien que lo ha hecho desde la infancia, no se puede alcanzar ese nivel de fluidez.

Fíjate si ella tuviera el nivel de fluidez de un NATIVO seria consciente de sus propios errores al hablarlo. Ella dice “mas que 80% de los habitantes del paso son hispanos” ¿detectaste el error? “El grupo predominante en El Paso son los hispanos” ¿detectaste el error? “Ella quería comunicar con sus pacientes por sí misma” ¿detectaste el error 😂😂 Ay amigo, mejor ya no sigo, le falta mucho para tener la fluidez de un nativo. 😂😂 Un nativo es CONSCIENTE de todos esos errores y simplemente no los cometemos por muy analfabetas que seamos. La chica tiene errores de pronunciación, entonación, dicción, etc., no eres capaz de detectar esos detalles a menos que seas nativo.
Entiendo, nada mas es el titulo. Su Español es maravilloso y es a un nivel en el que la gran mayoría de estudiantes de idiomas nunca llegan. También el enfoque es su acento, todos cometimos errores, hasta en nuestras propias lenguas.

Si yo tuviera personas hablantes de ingles a mi alcance, no dudaría en aprender, pero aprender uno solo es muy difícil, me impresionará aprender a hablar el otro idioma uno solito... a pesar de que conozco algunas cosas y viendo videos de inglés o clases de inglés, no es lo mismo que verse obligado a hablar con alguien, ne parece mucho mejor

¿Que tal colega? Realmente hablas español bastante bien y creo que español es el idioma más fácil de todos los tiempos por ejemplo, alcancé al nivel avanzado solo dentro de 2 años. ¿Estás de acuerdo conmigo acerca de esto?
Depende, creo que de todas formas requiere bastante tiempo y trabajo pero es relativamente fácil de entender la gramática y todo eso. Comparado al Japonés o un idioma así, por supuesto se puede llamarlo fácil

Dijiste que español es más fácil en comparación con japonés y creo que es más fácil que inglés también por ejemplo aprendo inglés por 14 años y aun no pude alcanzar al nivel con que soñé porque el vocabulario de inglés es como un océano sin fin por otro lado el vocabulario de español es solo como un mar pequeño. ¿Estás de acuerdo?

I just found your channel and like the content. However you would reach a wider audience if you provode translations to english. These stories are so interesting but i dont really understand much of what is being said.
I understand your point but when your Spanish advances, trust me you will appreciate not having English subtitles. They are a huge distraction. I also get your point about reaching a bigger audience but that isn't my ultimate goal on RUclips. I upload this for fun, and to help. Without the subtitles is the best way to help IMO. Trust me you will understand with more time into learning the language.

Me da risa cuando dicen que alguien que aprende a hablar un idioma que no es el de ellos lo habla mejor que aquellos que son nativos de éste 😂😂😂. Es chistoso. Una cosa es tener comprensión de algo y hablarlo a un nivel decente y otro es tener la EXPERIENCIA de un nativo. Es virtualmente imposible que alguien que adquiere la habilidad de hablar un segundo lo haga al nivel de los nativos. Puedes comunicarte en ese idioma, sí, pero no lo vas a comprender, sentir, escuchar, hablar como lo hace alguien que lo ha hecho desde la infancia, no se puede alcanzar ese nivel de fluidez.
Tú tienes toda la razón, el título es así para que sea picante. De hecho, yo tengo un video por salir que se trata del hecho de que alguien que aprende un idioma nunca puede llegar al nivel de un nativo realmente. Gracias por su comentario como siempre!

Fíjate si ella tuviera el nivel de fluidez de un NATIVO seria consciente de sus propios errores al hablarlo. Ella dice “mas que 80% de los habitantes del paso son hispanos” ¿detectaste el error? “El grupo predominante en El Paso son los hispanos” ¿detectaste el error? “Ella quería comunicar con sus pacientes por sí misma” ¿detectaste el error 😂😂
Ay amigo, mejor ya no sigo, le falta mucho para tener la fluidez de un nativo. 😂😂 Un nativo es CONSCIENTE de todos esos errores y simplemente no los cometemos por muy analfabetas que seamos. La chica tiene errores de pronunciación, entonación, dicción, etc., no eres capaz de detectar esos detalles a menos que seas nativo.
Entiendo, nada mas es el titulo. Su Español es maravilloso y es a un nivel en el que la gran mayoría de estudiantes de idiomas nunca llegan. También el enfoque es su acento, todos cometimos errores, hasta en nuestras propias lenguas.
