Yes, although not before I completely forgot how to make a video. Or so it felt while making this short! Hopefully the next 5 min guide will be out soon. 🙂 Thanks as always for your support. ❤️
I just watched this video the day after its release, and I found it informative! I knew about its autonomous status, but I didn't know _how_ it got it, or the fact that it can become a sovereign state following a referendum. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for your comment! From what I read, Karakalpakstan declared itself "sovereign" in 1990 at the end of the Soviet Union, which a LOT of other republics and autonomous republic's were doing at the time. What that meant exactly wasn't at all clear, but I see it as a step towards independence rather than a full declaration.
@@FredoRockwell Lot of republics started getting independence in 1991 when the USSR collapsed with all its coup, Gorbachev's dismantling, Yeltsin coming to power. Karakalpakstan's declaration of Independence was as serous as it can be. Elected representatives of the people, highest governing organ of the Republic, Joqargi Kenes, declared it and published it on their official press. First elected president was Dauletbay Shamshetov. Who, by the way, died in suspicious circumstances later.
He is back ❤

As always, it's doing a LOT better on Tiktok than RUclips. About 40x better at the moment...

My pleasure!
Other interesting fact Karakalpakstan declared its independence during the Soviet time, while Uzbeksitan became independent after the fall of USSR.

It is not a mistake. Head of State was President until Uzbekistan forced to change it to title of chairman
Sovereign country not autonomous
So funny 😂
