- WE ARE BACK IN IRELAND! We had been planning to return to Dublin for a few months but the current pandemic fast-forwarded our move. We're heartbroken to be leaving our home of 4 and half years in LA in such a rush move but so unbelievably grateful to be close to family in this madness and be able to get home to Ireland. This is video is to breakdown why we left LA & how it happened.

Home is where the heart is and the heart wants what the heart wants❤️❤️
I appreciate how honest you both were about the difficulties of parenting and that it's okay to need help. As a parent of two young children about the same ages as yours, I know it takes a village!
Yes, some people struggle and keep to themselves. But it’s great that they can admit it and ask for help lol
LA vs Ireland? I would move to Ireland in a heartbeat ❤️.
We in US here fight for even wearing mask and make a big deal. It's crazy!
Someone asked the other day how we managed to politicize mask wearing and I was like "how did we get here from 2016?"
dreamwavemermaid I want to wear a mask to keep me safe, even though you don’t seem to care much for them. Each to their own
@@dreamwavemermaid Absolutely!
I agree 100%, I might be in SF CA, but we still our share of "anti-maskers" (after all it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the batch). It would be so much better controlled for human life, as well as the economy (financial cost of healthcare, hospitalization, loss of work, not being able to care for your kids, etc...), getting businesses back open and running if we all worked together. We are both in healthcare field in our house, so we're still working, but we're eating take out to sponsor our local businesses (we've actually never eaten as much food "out" as we have during these past many months (it's Dec 20 now). However, God will, we will have a more commonsense approach to this after the New Year, or soon there after(viruses are not political, they'll kill you regardless of your politics, your religion your gender, or the color of your skin...goodness gracious!!).
Ireland has been in the worst lockdown of all the countries in the world. Its an absolute awful place to live now. The Police/Gardai are like Nazis. They are removing peoples children who attempt to expose their behaviour using section 12 of the mental health act. This Covid scamdemic is destroying everyone's lives.
Based on recent events, it may have actually been the best decision
Love that your Swedish partner has gradually developed an Irish accent! It's infectious for sure. Stay safe and look after those closest ...
Donal, you have no idea how fantastic it is to have you back here in Ireland. I am Polish, living in Ireland for the past 13 years. I first 'met' you when watching Kitchen Hero. I felt happy for you when you moved to States but I am absolutely thrilled that you and your lovely family moved back to Ireland. Can I say (as not a native Irish): WELCOME BACK? :) :)
Wow welcome home guys! Lovely to see the family back in Ireland. America just seems crazy these days. Beautiful place full of great people but you couldn’t pay me enough money to live there these days. Run by horrible people who put themselves above the people. Seeing how Ireland banded together during lockdown made me so happy to be here and not in the UK or the US
I live in the U.S. and yes it is crazy, corrupt, expensive, and a whole list of other issues. Here in Kansas though people are more laid back and taking everything in stride.
I live in the US... and we LOVE our President... The Criminals (So called Protesters) are bent on destroying the country but wont succeed.
I agree he's a decent president and yes the ones that started rioting are criminals but some changes should be made to make the legal system fair.
@@cieraros3ofcrims0n And statements like this and the one above is why the rest of the world wants nothing to do with your crazy asses.
And Kudos to Donal to staying out of that particular political fray!
I am about to move unexpectedly from the US to another country in the middle of this pandemic and it is extremely stressful. I have lived here for 1.5 decades so the packing and logistics are mental. So this really gives me hope that I will be able to do it. Whew!
Good luck with your move! What country did you move to?
Can't believe it has been 5 years in LA already. Seems like last year I have just seen you move there with Max. Glad you made it safely back to Ireland.
Home is where you feel comfort and where the heart is
omg did I mention your my fave RUclipsr
I have been on a journey watching this video. I feel like I've experienced just a sliver of it. Good to see you guys got back in one piece! Stay safe and healthy!
Being near family when you have kids is crucial! I couldn't have done it without the support.
Currently watching this now - only 2 minutes in but loving this little chat. So glad you are home in Ireland - which is probably safer than America at the minute. Can’t wait for your new shows and videos. Welcome home.
I hope L.A. served you well while you were here. I’m an L.A. native and this is my hometown so I’ll never leave.
You say, "we needed help" and wanted to be close to family. It's great that you were able to find both things in Ireland. Ireland is such a great place to be in a pandemic situation, especially after how poorly people are handling it in the U.S.A. . Less drama, more beauty in Ireland. Stay safe.
"This" time with your beautiful children is the most fleeting glad you will now be able to share it with your family.
He called Oliver a Lump, and I'm here for it 🥺
Its just an endearing Irish way of saying hes a thriving baby he dident mean anything negative you have to be Irish to understand its our Irish sense of humour we dont take ourselves too seriously or dont get offended easily
@@cathycupcake6849 I understood it to be something completely endearing and out of love, especially when you see his cute little baby who's in that squishy /cuddly /happy baby phase, it just made complete sense lol
Oh Sophie, I really felt for you during your whole move. I’m in awe that you’ve retained your sanity!
Welcome back to this side of the pond. I sincerely hope you are all very happy as a family. I shall look forward to watching many more of your lovely videos. Take care.
Sorry you needed to go through this, but I'm glad you guys are all together, safe and close to your family ❤
Awww where is Max? I still remember how tensed you were Donal when he was making his way to LA from Ireland to join with you guys:-) wowww sweet memories x so happy to see you here after a long time. Cute kids! God bless you all.
What a marvelous family! Such fun......And Oliver is just a perfect TV personality already! Just smiling and posing for the camera...Both boys are reflections of Mom and adorable..Beautiful family!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Welcome back to Ireland, I can imagine it's been a very stressful few months. Hoping things can calm down and you can all enjoy family life in Ireland - you have two beautiful kids btw.
OLIVER IS SO CONFORTABLE IN YOUR LAP, ALMOST SLEEPY, LOVELY BABYS, HAPPY FAMILY COGRATULATIONS
WOW what a crazy adventure. I followed on social media however hearing it made it seem even crazier. Thank you for sharing.
I've only just recently started to see your content and I've really enjoyed it so far. I personally think you did the right thing. There is absolutely nothing like having family around you, and having your children getting to know their grands. From what little I know and have seen of Ireland, I think you did the right thing.
Oliver is such a sweet angel! I love your sweet little family! Stay safe! ❤️
Wouldn't ever raise my kids in L.A. and with no family. Personally I think you made a very wise decision. Looking forward to new videos in your homeland. Oliver favors momma💕
I was a little sad to hear you were leaving the US, but I totally understand why...so glad everything worked out for y’all to get back to Ireland
Thank you for all the entertainment really enjoying your videos. We love you and your beautiful family.
Good to see that you are all safe and well in Dublin. Hope to see Arthur again in future videos.🐨🦘🐨🦘😷
Look at little Oliver🥰🥰
So glad you all are safe now with all the traveling! God bless you!
Congratulations on moving FROM LA!! Probably the wisest move you could have made. Ireland is so beautiful, and "normal." Had to be in LA a few times on business, and never have a desire to return.
When you and Arthur were preparing to move back to Ireland together, I followed your IG stories like a tense TV drama series! I was hugely relieved for ALL of you when your 2nd flight from LA went ahead and you landed safely in Dublin. Thank goodness for Arthur too! I love following all of you guys and am so glad you are safe and sound in your new home. Stay well and safe!
Thank goodness for Arthur is right! Thanks :)
You guys moved back to the homeland at the right time despite the fact that it was a rush job. Your friend Arthur was a total rockstar for you guys. Little Oliver (aka Noah the sequel) is one adorable happy baby! I’m glad you all are safe, Arthur is with his husband and the family is close by!
Thanks for sharing; it looks like you've settled in nicely - what a relief it must be for all of you. Can't believe you were here in the US for five years! I'm a longtime fan, and Ireland is our #1 travel destination. My husband and I would love to retire there but the requirements are tricky if you don't meet the criteria of job, school or family. We are sad that it may be a while before we can visit again due to covid but as soon as we can we will come back again ... and again ... Slainte!
It's such an Irish thing to always refer to Ireland as home :) no matter where you are living. I still refer to Ireland as home despite being away for 12 years.
Don't blame you Ireland is beautiful
Same. Left 17 years ago.
Understandable. I lived there for a year and no time in my home country did I feel as home as in Ireland.
Karen Folan Not Just Ireland ,I’ve lived in US for 30 years but England is always home.
I also moved home to Ireland to take care of my ageing parents, I also live in LA
Loved your wonderful showcasing of the diversity of LA but will be equally excited about your Ireland adventures. Come back to LA for a visit...but sometime after November.
Living near to family is best no matter the age. I moved in with my aging mother after she moved to be near her brother and his family, he died and then her other brother moved here to be near her (and me.) It's so much easier living around family because there is always a helping hand close by, even in these unprecedented circumstances. I'm glad Donal & family made it back to Ireland safely and all are well. Stay healthy friends!
Dear Donal and Sophie,
It seems you had quite a journey...
Wishing you happiness and joy in beautiful Ireland
Love your channel and recipes and will keep on following you where ever you are💖
Thank you! ☺️
Wow you have been Blessed with 2 most adorable little boys and I am sooo jealous. Good for you though Donal. Thank you for this lovely and most personal post. Blessings from Cape Town - South Africa. 🧡
Girl from my uni course did the same thing just before the lockdown, she’s happily living in Ireland right now, laughing at us peasants😂
I so want to come to Ireland 🇮🇪 I am a Irish ☘️ citizen through spousal route & have never once visited lol.. Enjoy your new season with your beautiful Family! Arohanui from New Zealand Aotearoa 🇳🇿
would choose ireland over los angeles to live HANDS DOWN. i live in california and absolutely feel so at home when i've been to ireland. i love the slower pace of life and the accessibility to nature!
Well done guys. With everything that is going on at the moment it is better to be near family. You should do a video about the differences between the food/produce in Ireland vs LA.
Gosh what a stress! I'm so glad you've popped out on the other side of it, may you take this time to rest and recuperate
I'm so glad you're home.
Welcome home Donal. Don’t blame you for coming home. I’ll miss our chats on the plane & seeing you in lax airport. Looking forward to more shows.
I'm so glad everything went fine. Happy for you living back in your home.
And family comes first! Always!
This sounds like an absolutely wild and thoroughly exhausting ride... glad you guys made it safely and are on the other side now! Hopefully sometime in the next year or two you guys will be able to go back and say your goodbyes to LA properly, and until then can rest and re-adjust! Thanks for the update :)
You are really courageous. I applaud both of you. Moving with kids is already stressful on top of the pandemic. It is important to be close to family. You took the right decision.
Congratulations on new baby ! He is adorable.. and welcome back ❤️
What a no-brainer.... best decision to be near your family, especially during this time.
Sophie and Donal, you both together makes SUPERCOUPLE! SUPERPARENTS! I don’t have kids and could not imagine myself with kids, but when I do, I hope I will have both of your strength, capabilities, energy and positivity.
You And the Family definitely made the right choice to leave L.A can understand must of been very hard not being able too say goodbye too your friends. But glad you are all back in Ireland, wish you all the best. 👍
Shoutout to the cutest couple out there! Lots of love to you guys!
Thanks for sharing your decision process and the huge amount of effort from you and many others to get yourselves back to Ireland.
Little Oliver is so cute!
Now that you've got Noah and Oliver, does that mean that child #3 will have a name beginning with P and child #4 a name beginning with Q?
If so, I vote for Patrick and Quinn! 😁😁
So happy to meet Oliver. Do we call him Olle?😁
I must say, your travel story will find its place in the history of mankind.
You Have conquered the pandemic successfully.
I’m glad you guys made the decision to go back home! Love you guys no matter where you are ❤️ love how you said you moved because you needed help! Lol family is the best help! stay safe!
Welcome home to Ireland. Ain't life grand! I hope I can travel to Ireland again soon.
I cannot imagine what it’s like to travel like that with two children on top! I’m anxious as hell about moving to Colorado at the end of this month and I’m just driving!!! So happy to see you guys made it home safely!!!
Welcome home you guys. There is nothing like being close to your family when you have kids. Enjoy the time you have together!
Ireland is so beautiful! I wish I could’ve visited it this year. But, C’est la vie!
It was the good thing to did for your children and yourself to move back home to be near family and friends. Besides, Ireland is so wonderful. Having 2 boys who are 1/2 Irish, I hope someday they can visit Ireland.
Well, I'm happy for all of you! 😁
Hats off! We moved house to the other side of our town 6 weeks ago, with a 4 year old, 2 dogs and a 4 week old newborn, I had a c section so couldn’t start packing until we had confirmation the move would definitely go ahead, which was 3 weeks post c section, it was utter madness. Packed about 100 boxes, 30 alone for the kitchen/dining room area.
Thank you for sharing this with us. It must be great to be back in Ireland, away from the chaos of covid, in the USA. Stay Safe. Keep smiling, the world is still a beautiful place.
Being close to family is a good thing. Grandkids need their grandparents and grandparents need to be near their grandbabies. I bet everyone is excited and happy now? Enjoy the help and the big family gathers.
I was living in New Zealand earlier this year and came home for the exact same reasons. Way too far away from family and those connections back home, as beautiful as New Zealand was it just wasn't where I was supposed to be. Unfortunately, my relationship broke down as a result and my other half stayed in NZ so I really needed this for reassurance that I wasn't the only one.
That's the thing isn't it, we may wish to live in another location for our own sake but the reality is what means even more to us, if we are lucky enough to have a good one, is our family. You can be living in the most wondrous part of the world but it's not necessarily going to feel like home if your family members are not living within reach.
On my visit to Cork, I fell in love with Ireland 🇮🇪. Such a lovely place with lovely people ❤️
What a journey you've taken! So glad you are all safe and healthy and back with family. Keep savoring those moments, all of you
Wow your baby is so cute and quiet when momma touch him gently.
Good moved guys and looking forward to seeing you cooking with your little ones Noah and Oliver. 😙😙
And your wife is so sweet.
Stay safe and healthy guys.
Oh wow, what an incredible story! Thanks for sharing - such a gorgeous family! 😊
Great to have you back in Ireland
I'm just glad you all made it home safely. It is important for the boys to be around their family. Sending love and good vibes. 💚
I would love to live in Ireland, ( the home of my family). Thank you for telling us! I love your recipes! I will follow you.
Really glad you went back to Ireland. Peace of mind.
Donal , you are so blessed with Sophie and two beautiful boys . Stay safe . We are staying safe .. p.s I’m old and I feel like I’m losing my mind through this weird time
This is making me feel better about moving house in the same country. Same reasons want to be nearer family.
We loved watching you making your journey back with Arthur, we were all anxious waiting for your confirmation flight back.. we loved Arthur living with you guys. Glad you are here in Ireland safe and sound!!
I can relate. I moved back from SoCal to Europe (Switzerland) a week after 9/11 - there's no place like home!
Thanks for sharing and happy settling in, Skehan family!
I'm your new subscriber from Bangladesh, your all video is so Learnable. Thank u so much.
Welcome to this channel!
Glad you made it safely home. Sounds like a nightmare but you made it through. Way to go! Thank goodness for the internet so we can keep up with you. I assume you will continue sharing your recipes with us when things calm down. Your kids are so darling.
stay safe and what a wonderful story, glad you guys made it back to Ireland. I am sure the airplane food wasn't to your cooking standard ha ha
Glad you are safe and sound! And near your family!
Los Angeles is an awesome city and I truly love it - but you made a very sane decision
I moved to England from Sydney and back 2 years later and that was stressful enough without a pandemic and ch8ldren. I can only imagine how strange it would have been leaving rushed and not being able to say good bye
Ireland all the way! And by the way, that new little one is beautiful!
A great video update. Hope ye are settling in ok.
Hi Donal and Sophie~ i’ve just found your channel and I’ve liked and subscribed straight away little baby Oliver and Noah are 2 little bundles of adorable cuteness~ Hope your finding lockdown not too bad ...I suffer with multiple sclerosis and lupus and have spent 4 weeks in hospital due to falling over and damaging my hip..but have been home a few weeks now..Sending love and hugs~from my home to yours~ Xxx Xxx
Glad you're safe and sound and you made the right decision to moving close to family where you are relying on good HELP! trust me I have 3 children and not being close to family because of work really was tough on me and my husband. But its all good now that the kids are growing up. But I cannot stress it hard enough to live close to the family while the children are still in the infant stage like yours. Love you both! All the very BEST to you both.
I am so happy for you🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕
So glad you returned home. Unfortunately this country has lost its way. Hope we can get it back soon.
Im an aunt. I have two nephews and an baby niece. I watch them a bit and even more due to covid. I do not know how people raise kids away from family especially right now. It’s horrible. You need the support and emotional sanity. Also Im sure Ireland does lockdown better.
Glad you came home..
Why anybody would choose Los Angeles over Ireland would be a huge mystery to me. California is a cesspool of nothing that turns one's soul to dust. You guys made the absolute right decision especially for the well being of your children. Blessings to all !
Omg your comment is so Ignorant. California nothing ? Than you are a person that have been all Time in home and didnt really look what california is. What the hell is Irland a village with less class life
Little Oliver really really wanted that peony 😂😍🌸
