Man you are a funny bastard! Informative, smart and quite a comedian. I started watching you for the watches but now I could care less what you’re talking about. Whatever you do keep posting videos! Be good and take care!
You've helped me tremendously in thinking through my watch addiction, and I suspect many many others, too. Plus, you're always hilarious in a positive way and are patently a good soul. Whatever the subject, I always thoroughly enjoy them. A ten minute dose of insight and self-deprecating humour is a pure tonic.
Jeff, you can't leave us. You are a cornerstone of the watch community. You were fundamental in the formation of my watch collecting philosophy. Please don't go, we need you. 😢
Well McMahon, I wouldn’t consider the stories humble-brag. The stories are what keep me coming here. A very special and wise mentor/minister once advised me to tell the story, never assume that your audience knows the story. Tell the story brother, there’s always someone that will benefit from it.
Think it runs its course for most guys at some point .. I think people are coming and going in the hobby all the time . After around 12 years I was done . All the hassle buying , selling etc totally lost its appeal . Still watch you and occasionally one or two other creators. One thing I noticed is most of the watch channels that pop up in my stream seem to be new creators . We are of the generation where Vhs Beta max were king . Landline phones and playing records in your room .. Life was simpler and for the most part I like that …
My feed in the last month has been heaps of watch channels I’ve never viewed. I only subscribe to 4-5 watch related channels. It’s too easy to have your mind crammed with all sorts of interesting but essentially useless crap.
@@redletterl78 you are absolutely right .. Definitely think there is a correlation between overconsumption and addiction.and as you say really cuts into productivity..
@@daveLin104 I was in the hobby for around 12 years . I had spent huge sums over the years but I knew I would never be happy . Almost thought I was buying for the sake of buying . it became a habit as if I was in a strange vacuum . It was how I spent disposable income and never really gave thought to the fact that another expensive watch wasn’t enhancing my life in any way . Once I started to give thoughts to the fact that the downsides greatly outweighed the benefits rationality came into play . Sold off most of my collection but I still have 5 watches that sit in a vault that I haven’t touched in 18 months. The only reason I didn’t sell is the market had fallen greatly and probably didn’t make financial sense . I think you have to be ready to kick the habit. But today I wear a watch merely to tell the time nothing more . The crazy obsession is gone . It’s a bit like a love affair, when the feelings go they go . If you want to stop perhaps jotting down the advantages and disadvantages. Ask yourself how much enjoyment are you really getting from the hobby . Think what you can do with the extra time and money .Cut down on watch content on social media . The biggest one for me was that I knew I was just a victim of marketing, advertising and influencers who all have a common goal to empty my bank account . When you cut through the garnish , flannel and general bullshit you are paying many thousands essentially for stainless steel bracelets that happen to tell the time . Little more than very expensive jewelry
I'm on this game since i was a kid and honestly I'm coming to same conclusion, i prefer having less watches but more pieces i enjoy than buying every watch i like out there.
Remember the women's designer jeans fad/era? It came to abrupt and premature end when mommies started buying their tweenie daughters the same $180 jeans as the hottest ladies had been wearing so successfully. Maybe the girls will allow you to make cameo appearances in their videos if you bring in your 10.2k followers.
McMahon, I do not think your videos are humble-brag. Your stories are engaging and entertaining. Keep up the good work. I am the same age as you and I would rather listen to you than some teens! I mean no disrespect to your daughter.

You have the right idea. The type of videos you're making are what people want right now. I enjoy them and find them relatable.

I like your videos, you always out things in perspective, honestly social media isn't of all evil but perhaps moderation is needed.

I kinda expected to see you around here, TGV, after you recommended this channel.

I truly look forward to each one of your videos man.
Great takeaway (for me) from this video-the recurring background in the Flintstones cartoon…that resonates

Seconded !
lol Jeff. I turned 63 recently and between you and the guy below I find myself caring less about having a lot of watches going forward.

What’s your best advice to a 26 year old who just opened up a freight Agency that partners with Brokers?
Seiko SPB143 or a Tudor BB58.
