In this episode, we waterproof the pump house. This was a crucial step because we also build a natural living roof on it. Time to water the roof!

I'm a Fan - My wife and I watch your videos to relax and take a break from TV, very entertaining. I am retired electrician of 40 years, most of which I was the foreman or supervisor - sure, I could comment on your methods but you're doing fine. Good luck and keep those videos coming. You are an inspiration to all married couples involved in building projects.

I like how you both explain why you are using one method of construction over another, or why a certain material is being utilized rather than other choices. It really helps the viewer see the logic of everything and in a way that makes sense. Thanks!

I'd have put those three boards on top running horizontally, not along the slope of the roof.
That way you minimize the chance of the soil getting waterlogged and spilling out during a storm. Yes, even with grass growing on it, the slope is steep enough to create a slide.

I grew up in Texas and one thing I learned very early is NOT to put on anything that has been outside unless you check it. Boots upsidedown on the bedpost because scorpions... Jackets, shirts, socks, shoes... Tarantulas, spiders, horn toads, lizards you name it they will find it eventually and make a home in it.

Same as here in Australia. Anything inside too we have to check because spiders get in to the house, smacking the shoe upside down and checking gloves inside out

Add a length of gutter and a downspout to the pump house. When you start your main garden, the runoff from that roof is fertilizer. You will of course have to recharge the roof with poop from time to time.

Did I miss a video...what's the purpose of the Living Roof on a small pump house when you live on a farm? Plus living out in a rural area...with a child on the way, it seems kind of unwise climbing up a ladder to tend to your living roof...and you're going to have pumps/electrical just below a heavily loaded moisture containing roof. Seems a bit sketchy to me in this particular application...I don't see a big upside. Love your videos and only want the best for you guys.
